ITT

vincent of santa fe, NM October 27, 2009

i attended ITT 1995-1997 i graduated with an associate degree, the whole time i was a student i was led to believe that my credits would transfer on many occasions. After graduating i then went to UNM and was informed that the degree i obtained was basically useless and that i would have to start from the beginning; if i wanted a bachelors degree. i am now stuck with 30,000 in loans for a useless degree, "not worth the paper it was printed" as i was told to me by a counselor at UNM

I enrolled in the Digital Entertainment and Game Design program in St. Rose, Louisiana. Before signing for loans, I was always told that I would be able to consolidate them and they would be manageable monthly payments. WRONG!!! Sallie Mae is asking me to pay over 500.00 a month on both federal and private loans. Also, the program sucked so bad because we were the second class to take up this program. We had teachers who in fact worked for video game companies, but for some reason or another weren't given full-time positions so they ended up quitting. We were left without a decent instructor. All they did was take an existing teacher and make them teach a class. I've never heard of a graphics designer teaching physics. That's like having your PE teacher in high school teach geometry. If they aren't qualified in a certain subject, how can they teach that class? I was also tired of being forced into taking online classes and teaching myself. Not only was I teaching myself when I was actually going to the school, now I have to do it online as well. I didn't learn a damn thing that I couldn't learn buy purchasing a book and doing tutorials. I was an honor graduate and valedictorian, so I'm not a disgruntled student. This is scary and real and I've been bamboozled. My college life has been completely wasted and so has my money. Six months after graduating, the career services department are finally buckling down and trying to find jobs. Not decent paying jobs either. This school and/or campus was not in no way ready for this curriculum. I urge everyone to stay away from this school. I also blame the government for not stepping in and helping out us students. These privately own schools need to be regulated and so does Sallie Mae. I was told by a Sallie Mae rep that they no longer consolidate loans due to the economy, but they expect me to pay over 500.00 to them? What about the economy affecting me? It's ridiculous. Now my parents might have to take out a home equity loan just to help with my student loans. PLEASE PEOPLE, STAY AWAY FROM ITT. I will be starting a website soon that will very informative and I will try to create a group to encourage our government to bailout the student debts. Get ready for this and sign up!!!

I went to the school and found the education to be Jr. College like. I was tricked and told not to go to any of the surrounding community colleges or universities, only to find out that the instructors were going to the same very colleges where they steered us away from. Some of the instructors were still in training and would ask the students for help. An instructor even explained that he would get a bonus after we all do good, and times are hard so he would "help" us.

I left the school before 30 days and was told that I could come back to continue where I left off at. Than I began to receive calls from collection agencies demanding money, even though I had a student loan. The so called hands on education was not hands on. We ended up doing work over the computer, which means that we would teach our selves at least one full course. The recruiters lied about receiving commission or incentives for their work. I was told that there was no money out of the pocket! The school has custom published books to save money! They advertise way to often! Teachers complain of being under paid and ward off good friends from becoming entangled in ITT's mess. I owe money and I wasted time.

I graduated in 2005 with highest honors and they promised to have lifetime job placement when you graduate from their school, which they did not do that with me and I have over 80,000 worth of student loans that I need to pay back but can not due to the fact of not getting a job like they promised. The school didnt teach me things that are on the state wide test you have to take to get certified. As to this result I can not get a job in the field that I was going to school because I am not certifed even though I have hands on experience and anyone can go and study for the test and take it but that doesnt mean they have the hands on experience like myself.

Did not get a job for what I was going to school for and was not taught anything that was on the test that I needed to take to get certified.

I attended ITT Tech in 1984 I was enrolled in a Electronic Tech excelerated program, I completed and never heard from the school for job placement and have never been able to use the schooling in the job market because employers said the program did not give enough experience for the field that I claimed to train you in. I had to got back to school and pay for it out of pocket because I could not get another student loan because the one for ITT was in default. On 4/6/2009 my taxes got taken to pay for this 25 year old debt from a school that did nothing to help me.

The debt has caused me credit issues and now 25 years later when we are a economic crisis and I'm trying to just survive an was depending on my tax check to pay bills and keep a roof over my families head the department of ed took it. The stress possibly losing my home and collection calls has cause physical and mental issues for me.

Brent of Loveland, OH April 4, 2009

Brent of Loveland OH (04/04/09)
Hopes, Dreams and Promises. Thats what I had when I first got accepted into the Computer Networking systems 2 year associates degree program at ITT Tech. ITT Tech made it clear before I joined that they wanted nothing more then to see me succeed and graduate with hopes of a brighter future. A dream short lived with my first 3 quarters at ITT Tech. In late 2004 before I graduated from high school I was already planning to attend ITT Tech in the summer of 2005. I was contacted a couple months before graduating by my former recruiter of ITT. He told me that ITT tech was ripoff and I should rethink my education, it was just a big scam out to take peoples money and give you less of an education. I should have stopped right there and listened. I ended up attending ITT in the summer of 2006 in order to get my finances straightened out.

After three quarters at ITT Tech I was ready to call it quits because for the money I was expected to shovel over, I didn't feel like I was getting out what I put in. Instructors were often late class, not up to date with curriculum, confrontational and unwilling to help you. Instructors made you feel like you were a waste of time and instead of helping you they'd refer you to a tutor. The only downside to tutors were most of them had different methods of teaching a subject and its not the correct way of learning the material. If you have a full time job then you could forget about getting extra help. ITT Tech was also unwilling to work with people who had jobs and fit your class's in around your schedule. But wait this is the total opposite of what ITT tech promised isn't it?

My campus that I attended was filthy, garbage and pop bottles often cluttered my learning enviorment. Computers were damaged, stolen or missing parts. Which makes you wonder where all the money your paying is going? Text-books were lousy and if you were lucky enough to have one or you'd often have to wait weeks or so just to get one, and by then you were behind. ITT tech would send you a draft schedule between quarters, so when you return back to class to get your final copy of your schedule you find out that you already missed one or two of your classes and are behind. Then ITT Tech has the audacity to send you an attendance reminder. If you ever want to talk to any of the staff such as Career services, Financial Aid, Administrators...good luck. Most of them were unavailable to talk to and since ITT has a such a high turn over rate you'd never know who to talk to or where to find them.

I recieved a letter from Finacial aid about my student loans and tried contacting them through the phone and email but was not able to get ahold of anyone. My relationship with the staff wasn't that great either. I had one instructor for programming who on the day of exams came in under the influence. Then my instructor for Math read my grades allowed in front of the class and insulted me. Before I withdrew I spoke with the Dean and my recruiter and we discussed the problem I was having and that I was not happy there. They failed to assist me but helped me decide that ITT Tech was not for me. In the end I am expected to pay Sallie Mae nearly 30,000 dollars for an unsatfiactory education.

I've tried contacting Better Business Bureau, Congressmen, ITT Dean, Ombudsman & ACICS but have come out unsuccessful. My response from ACICS was that there was lack of evidence and I basically got called a liar. How am I supposed to pay back this rapidly growing loan with no college education or degree? I work in retail making minimum wage. I can barely afford to pay rent, car payments etc. I'm sorry, but the last thing on my to pay list is my student loan. Which is like throwing money in a bottomless jar. I've been fighting because I believe I should be entitled to a refund. The only evidence you need is the fact that I will never return to the school. From the moment I left ITT, I've made it my sole mission to keep future students considering that school to rethink their education & future.

Sallie Mae keeps harassing me for money calling me at work & home. We've had to call the police dept. because of the phone calls, and they've recently started back up. I cannot afford this loan and cannot get a better job without a degree. I cannot transfer to another school because ITT credit's do not transfer. I can't afford to borrow loans, and I would be denied too since my account is in delinquency. My credit is shot because of this loan. I can't ask for help from my parents because my parents are in a low income situation. I am near defaulting on my loan.

ITT failed to inform me that my basic consumer protections have been stripped from my student loans, so bankruptcy is not an option. I may have to move back in with my family but I still wouldn't be able to afford these loans. I will be an old man still trying to pay this loans if I did consolidate but its hard to do with private loans, I may be retired using my social security to pay on it unless they decide to garnish that as well. I don't know how they justify charging that much for not even attending a full year without receiving a degree?
