US Postal Service

Consumers have a lot of problems with USPS, as the complaints in this section attest.  What's perhaps most unfortunate about this is the hostility displayed by too many postal employees who could care less whether their efforts to serve taxpayers are successful.

Movie Fans Suspect Foul Play at the Post Office

By the way, many consumers routinely leave their outgoing mail in the lobbies of apartment buildings. Not a good idea, as Christopher of Seattle now knows.

Then there's the question of whether the Postal Service is meeting the letter and spirit of the Americans With Disabilities Act. Oh, and some of those postal workers don't drive too well either.

A few of the more recent complaints ...

Tim of Elsmere, KY November 1, 2008

Tim of Elsmere KY (11/01/08)
Our mail, once again, is being delivered to the wrong address. Today, my neighbor had our mail. Our other neighbor who gets our mail sometimes sends it back, resulting in my bills getting paid late!

We have paid late fees at least twice because of this and our last correspondence with the post office SHOULD have remedied this situation. Somebody needs to get this matter straightened out immediately!

they charged me for 20 59 cent stamps and only gave me 1 and then when i returned to dispute the charge they refused to compensate me.

i gave 11.21 to the us postal service and did not recieve anything in return. I could spent that money on my son

Robert of Mesa, AZ October 23, 2008

i just went to the post office. i stood in line for around 10 minutes. there was only one lady on duty. i went up to her and said good morning. she was rather downhearted. she did my business and said 5.32. i said i am not done, i need a book of stamps. she was mad and nasty to me and i said to her why are you picking on me, i have done nothing to you, she had asked everyone in line ahead of me if they needed stamps and even passports, then to me just 5.32.

well she did not get any better as my blood pressure went sky high, i said i would be calling her boss. she didn't care at all. no feelings for her customers and we are the people that pay her. not friendly at all to anyoune.

Fred of El Dorado Springs, MO October 23, 2008

Fred of El Dorado Springs MO (10/23/08)
On October 28 our mail carrier delivered mail addressed to the wrong mailboxs. I received my neighbors mail, my neighbor received his neighbors mail, etc. I contacted the local post office and asked to speak to the Postmaster. I was told the Postmaster was out of town for the week. I asked the clerk what she planned on doing about it. She stated that she would let the Postmaster now next week.

In other words no other action was considered. She had no plans telling the carrier to go back around on his route and correct the problem. Instead, I ended up delivering the mail correctly to my local street.

For services that I rendered delivering the mail, I want one hour's pay that this carrier normally gets.

Lisa of New London, WI October 20, 2008

Lisa of New London WI (10/20/08)
We were wondering why the lobby was locked on Monday 10/13/08 for Columbus Day. It has always been unlocked so we can access our PO boxes. The post master stated that if we have an issue, contact Consumer Affairs. I am not the only one complaining, but, maybe the only one submitting a complaint. The Post Master stated that if they are open the previous Saturday hours, that should serve everyone. I stated that we are a business & not open on Saturday & in the past we were able to access our PO boxes/lobby. Thank you for your time.
