US Postal Service

Consumers have a lot of problems with USPS, as the complaints in this section attest.  What's perhaps most unfortunate about this is the hostility displayed by too many postal employees who could care less whether their efforts to serve taxpayers are successful.

Postal Service May Seek Service Cut
Movie Fans Suspect Foul Play at the Post Office

By the way, many consumers routinely leave their outgoing mail in the lobbies of apartment buildings. Not a good idea, as Christopher of Seattle now knows.

Then there's the question of whether the Postal Service is meeting the letter and spirit of the Americans With Disabilities Act. Oh, and some of those postal workers don't drive too well either.

A few of the more recent complaints ...

Timothy of Washingtonville NY (11/05/08)
I attempted many times to filed a claim pertaining to a package sent to Singapore [tracking # and claim#]. USPS has never sent the papers to file a claim. The package was sent registered mail, return receipt and signiture confirmation. this has become very frustrating. Please assist me in this matter

Dapheny of San Antonio, TX November 4, 2008

Dapheny of San Antonio TX (11/04/08)
The post carrier left my mail on my door step along with 2 keys to the supposed mail box. The two keys were different but my husband tried one of them and it did not work on the mail box. When my husband saw the mail carrier again he informed him . The mail carrier informed me that we needed to go to the post office. When I went into the post office and informed the postal work. they informed me to try the other key and if it still did not work they gave me the # to call.

Well the key did not work and when I called the # a lady answered the phone (did not get her name ) told her the situation she then got defensive and told me that the mail carriers do not give out keys. I then informed her that he did. she placed me on whole for 15 mins then picked the phone up and hung up. When I called back after several rings Mr. M answered the phone I asked who picked up the phone earlier because they hung up on me and he stated immediatley stated that it had to be an accident

I again told him what happened and again he said the mail carrier does not give out keys or leave mail on door steps. I again told him that it happened and he then tried to twist my story around and became very rude. He took my information down and stated that he needed to speak with the mail carrier as if i were making the story up.

I can not get my mail

Kelly of Rio Rancho, NM November 3, 2008

Kelly of Rio Rancho NM (11/03/08)
Since moving to NM in April 2008 both I and my mother in law have been to the post office more than 6 times to resolve continued problems with our mail. My mail would get forwarded to her and hers to me. We spoke 4 times to Jennifer who was the supervisor then and she promised each time she would take care of the problem. Later a new supervisor took over and my mother in law spoke to this person 2 or 3 more times. we still have no resolution. Even mail that is directly addressed to our new home and not forwarded from our old address gets redirected to her house. It is very frustrating for all of us. The inconsistency is a real problem.

I want this investigated and I would like to be contacted about the results of this investigation and I would like someone to contact me about a refund of my 16.50 which is incurred because my carrier returned mail to me that should have gone out to Colorado last Wednesday. This post office has switched supervisors atleast 3 times in a 7 month period. that should speak for itself on the poor service people are getting from the post office and the carriers.

The damage is that I have to travel daily to get my mail that is at my mother in laws cause they cant seem to get anything right. I have had to pay to overnight ballots that were stamped and mailed from my home several days before the election and returned to me over the weekend because they didnt read the envelope right. I have severe debilitating fibromyalgia and having to go to the post office and wait 30 minutes to have this issue addressed on more than one occassion is a hardship.

Kent of Centennial, CO November 3, 2008

Kent of Centennial CO (11/03/08)
The PO Branch did not start holding my mail until 3 weeks after the confirmed hold date. Then, they tried to deliver it on the confirmed resume date even though the confirmation stated that I would pick up the held mail. Since I was not yet home, they returned all of my mail to sender.

I did not recieve the medicine I need to live on time.

P of Lansing, MI November 3, 2008

P of Lansing MI (11/03/08)
This is the main branch postal office for the downtown Lansing area. They never have more than one clerk scheduled to work the lunch hours (11:30 - 1:00). Typical wait time is 30 - 50 minutes to see a clerk. Occasionally a second clerk will volunteer to help customers, but usually there are are several people visibly not working and joking around behind the clerk. Lines start at 10 or more people and usually when you leave there are over 30 people waiting for service (not including the 6 - 12 people who leave out of frustration.)

This happens every day of the week, and pre-holiday periods are worse. Whatever they are paying the clerk and the scheduler for customer service, it's too much. Missed lunch hours, senior citizens sitting on the floor from fatigue, arguments between customers due to frustration, additional fuel
