Hays Delivery Service

Wilburn of Fieldon IL writes (6/14/02):
Purchased a refrigerator and a freezer at the Sears store in Alton IL. Delivery was to be made between 1230 and 230 6/12/02. I cancelled the purchase because of the following...

On the day of the delivery I took off work to receive the items. At 10:00am I called the delivery service at 800 732-7747 and was told that the items would be delivered between 1230 and 230 that day. At 130 I called again and talked to a lady by the name of Judy and asked if she knew about when the truck would be here, she said she would call me back. At 1:48 she called and said the driver was 15 min away. At 1:58 she called back and said that the driver couldn't make the delivery because the road was flooded. I told her that he was on the wrong road as my road was not flooded. At 2:05 she called again and said that the driver was crossing the Brussels ferry and could not return. The ferry is 15 miles from my house. I drove to the ferry and the truck had not crossed the ferry yet and I informed him that he had made the wrong turn, his reply was, oh. This delivery should have been made. #1 when the driver saw the flooded road he should have called his dispatcher. #2 the dispatcher should have called the customer to advise of the problem. At the time the driver made the wrong turn he was only 30 seconds from my house, had he or the dispatcher called I could have helped them locate me. I do a lot of shopping with sears and I like the service but this was uncalled for.
