A technical supply company executive on Long Island, NY, writes:
Around Aug 1 1999, I decided to try and save my company a little money, and switched all of my shipping from Fed-Ex to UPS. This occurred after several talks with local rep. trying to get my business. My whole business relies on shipping. I was using Fed Ex, and slowly started to use UPS. They were definitely cheaper. In Aug. of 99 I decided to send all of my packages by UPS. Well to say the least, a very strong lesson was learned. Expensive is cheap in the long run. UPS almost made my business fold. I'm a small business but I ship between 20 and 50 packages a day. Well, for 3 months of using UPS I had crazy nightmares:
Also when sending out a COD package they send you the money regular mail, and it takes up to a month or so to recieve your money for the products you sent out already. Lots of the moneys were lost in reg. mail, so they said. Others were sent to wronge address. Some took 3 months to get. And some was never received. I spoke with many people in my industry and they had the same problems. As you probably already figured out I made the switch back to Fed-Ex. Fed Ex might be a little more money, but it's the best money I can ever spend. I have ben back with them for about 4 months, and have been extremely happy.
