Afni Complaints

Your Debts, Your Rights

Mary of Little Falls MN (11/20/08)
I received a bill from AFNI Collections for a land line phone charge from 1-99 through 6-99 in the name of my deceased husband. The charge was for a land line phone, a Verizon Florida number. My husband has never lived in Florida! After reading similar complaints within your website I am convinced this company is committing fraud and destryong everyone's good credit. Your assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Emotional distress!

Sent a settlement offer notice for me to pay half of a bill they claim was 135.51 for a phone with area code I am totally unfamiliar with, i.e. I've never had the phone number, not even lived in the same area code region. Have have seen numerous complaints in regard to this company and similar fraud incidents.

Afni Inc placed information on my credit report stating I owed on a Verizon of NYC bill. I have never lived in New York and disputed the info on my credit report. The info has not been removed.

Credit reporting agency states that if a company states it is your bill that is all of the verification that they need. I have filed a complaint with better business bureau, FTC and AG of Illinois.

I have had them post 2 accounts in collection on me. Of which both I had nothing to do with. They have been 2 seperate phone company's. One was Sprint, the other Bell South. I have never used either one of these.

They started while I was in the Army and had a address that is not me. Where I never lived.

Do not give them your name or anything as they will change it and make it seem as if it was you.

Afni started collections on me for an ammount they say owed to Qwest from May of 2002. I contacted Qwest directly to get coppies of bills and paid ammounts, Qwest sold all the records to Afni and could not access any information. I could document that I paid Qwest after the bill date. Afni would not confirm any payments to the account in question.

Afni claimed that I may have paid Qwest but it did not credit this account directly, so I owe it. It is the only account of record qwest has, who was I paying? And who cashed my checks then? Qwest did. They did not credit the past due amounts, so it sat in collections for 6 years. Qwest did not send me bills in 6 years. They did not flag my credit for it, for six years.

Because the amount was small and the possible damage to my credit, and or cost of fighting this, was much larger I opted to give up and pay. Afni used the loop hole that they hold all the account information, they can chose to ignore payments, as the cause to start collections. They can't prove I did not pay qwest, I can prove I did pay after the bill in question. They can ignore it, cause credit problems for me. And generally they bank on the fact no one can document 6 year old payments or receipts.

The only thing AFNI would accept was a recept paid in full from Qwest, well AFNI has all the records and will not give them to me. So I paid to be done with the head ache. The cheep way out for me, the money in the bank for AFNI, they win.
