Debt Collectors Go After Expired Verizon Bills
Afni Complaints

Your Debts, Your Rights

Mark of Canton GA (01/16/09)
I got two collections notices from AFNI today one for me for 248.29 and one for my wife 99.53 both from AT & T Mobility. We have never had an account with AT & T Mobility and do not owe on either account. We were not given any information, just company name and amount. We will fight this to the bitter end. We are not going to be AFNI's victims. We are sending two separate letters demanding proof and disputing this debt. This kind of crap should not be possible. Some scam company spins the roulette wheel on who to terrorize and they have the ultimate threat of attacking your credit.

I have just begun the process to fight this-

I received again, a collection notice from them, claiming once again that I had a balance from Verizon, NJ (1998) for an address that I have never resided at, especially since I have been living in Virginia. Back in 2005, I was refinancing my home and this same info came up (I ended up paying them 133.00)in order to proceed with the re-fi. Now they are trying to claim that there is another balance for the same account! To add insult to injury during this whole ordeal I was employed with Verizon. Verizon was not Verizon until 2002 not 1998, then it was Bell Atlantic and any so called bill would be under that name. This new charge is for around 26.00 or so, and I FLAT OUT REFUSE TO PAY. Need I mention that I am still a Verizon customer to this very day?

Thus far it has been reported on my credit report(s).

I received a bill from the company stating I had an unpaid bill from Qwest for 73. It gave my previous number (in New Mexico) with a different area code. I havent been at this address for over 4 1/2 years (moved with the Air Force). I tried to call the company but can't get through. When I left New Mexico, I closed out all accounts and paid off the creditors. This seems to be a fraudulent practice that needs to be addressed legally as well as with both the BBB and Federal Trade Commission.

I haven't checked yet but suspect this will be on my credit report.

I am getting settlement offer notices for a bill I do not owe. I will not call them because the last time i called a company years ago under the same circumstances & then was harassed through that number after that.

They have put it on my credit report & they say it is from Quest. I have had Quest for years at different locations. They would not give me a number if I had a previous bill. I had lost my credit ten years ago after my divorce but worked hard to get it back. Now I am getting bills supposedly bought from companies from the 90's.

BBB was contacted. AFNI is part of Arrow Financial. The charges were bogus and Arrow stated via BBB response that they would stop further contact. They FISH old debt files and try to impose collection using various deceptive methods.

They withdrew after dealing with the BBB.
