Great Expectations

Carolynn of Indianapolis, IN December 23, 2005

Carolynn of Indianapolis IN (12/23/05)
I went in for what I thought was an informational interview and was hard-sold, and I was a salesman at the time, so I know what a hard-sell is. I was offered a one-time-only discount that expired once I left the office. They bargained with me until I agreed to a multi-year contract at roughly 2500, or 50/month. I was assured that new men joined every day, that careful screeneing went into every membership, and that there were numerous candidates for me, a 40-year-old professional who was looking for marriage and children.

They matched me with men who were religiously my opposite, politically my opposite, or who had hobbies to which I am morally and philosophically opposed. I wrote an explicit self-description, so this should not have happened. They promised me an hour-long photo shoot (for an extra fee over 100, of course) and told me I'd have time to wear four outfits. I took four but arrived 10 minutes late, and even having called ahead, they trimmed my session to 30 minutes, made me choose two of the four outfits, and I had to decide on which photos to use RIGHT THEN. I was not given an opportunity for a second shoot to make up the docked time, despite having paid for it and having asked for the extra shoot. I sought use of the internet service since I do not have time to go to their offices every day and sort through books of photos and shelves of video tapes. That cost extra.

They also promised regular contact about group events and that they would fix me up, in addition to me choosing my own dates. I got no contact unless I wrote an email and asked for it. I did not receive updates for months at a time, and in one case, by the time a man who had shown interest in my profile and I were finally notified about one another, it turned out that he had left the service in dissatisfaction. And he was my political opposite!
