Great Expectations

Alicia of Jacksonville Beach, FL September 22, 2009

When I signed in good faith with GE, I was led to believe that there were alot of men in the service within my age bracket but I could not see them without first becoming a member. My saleman kept citing that the reason for this was privacy of it's GE members, as it turns out it was because there are not that many!! I felt rushed to make a decision right then and there to get that "special offer" and in hind sight should not have taken the offer but I feel that I was totally taken advantage of. Not only has my membership led to 0 dates, most of the men that I chose gave no reason or never responded what so ever - only to find out later that they had let their membership expire.

On top of all this, four months into my membership, GE closed it's office here in Jacksonville. They did not notify their members and I only found out this information when I called the office and was connected to the Orlando office which has now taken over our area. When I expressed my concerns they were nice but told me I would now be able to be connected with someone in the Orlando area. This is 2-2 1/2 hours from my house. I have zero plans to relocate and do not want to be involved in a long distance relationship. When I asked about the bi-monthly activities for their members I was told that they would not be having any in Jacksonville because it was not centrally located to the Orlando office!!

I feel that I was misled and sales pressured into joining with GE and on top of all this now they close down in Jacksonville so that the membership base will not grow. I had to pay 2414. all up front to get this "special offer" and now not only do I have nothing to show for it but not even a chance in the future because the membership base in my hometown will never grow.

I'd love to hear how anyone received any compensation from Great Expectations in the past. I understand that I had three days to cancel and get my money back but after three days the company was still here working for me - now they have up and merged with another company over 2 hours away.

This is actually written on behalf of a woman whose experience is summarized below. She is seeking corroboration, and people with similar experiences are asked to contact a number below. K. went into Great Expectations and was persuaded to sign a contract and pay in excess of 3400. She was expressly told that she could go ahead and join but cancel her membership if she decided it was bad before coming back for actual services. Upon leaving, she felt that she had been skillfully manipulated and did a bit of research, finding overwhelming negative information about Great Expectations nationwide and specific to this office. She learned of 29 complaints with the Better Bus Bureau in nearby Charlotte and quickly found over 40 on the internet. She contacted Great Expectations with her concerns and her worst fears were confirmed in their response, particularly due to denials as to what she knew she had been told. Ultimately, Great Expectations agreed not to further charge her credit card, since she had obtained no service at all, but then a couple months later they did. They said this was an accident, reversed it, and then a couple months later did it again. We are actually looking for corroboration from people told things that Great Expectation has denied. If you have such corroboration, please contact an attorney and friend of K who is helping her. Ask for J.M. Aberman at 800 247-9870. Your information will be confidential, unless you agree otherwise.

Angelina of Phoenix, AZ September 21, 2009

I am very disappointed in this service. I feel as if I was lied to and tricked into signing up with promises that didn't exist. My biggest disappointment was with the men that were not ready to date. I was selected by several men and did go on a few dates. The topic of Great Expecations and their experience did come up. More than 2 men shared with me that while in the sales portion of the interview, they told the sales personnel that they were not ready to date, because of various reasons. These 2 men both were currently going through a divorce! But they said that the sales people were lowering the price just so that they would join. Whether they were "ready" to date or not.

I also voice my opinion about my unhappiness with the service and was spoken to by the manager at the Phoenix office. She was completely unprofessional and rude. I asked for my account to be put on an inactive status. Since this conversation 1 1/2 months ago, I have received 23 phone calls from the account services demanding money from me. Great Expectations never put my account on inactive, therefore the credit company is demanding the "late" money. The credit company stated to me, that Great Expectations still has yet to notify them that my account is inactive. I have contacted them several times, and do not get a response. Among these issues were several other "promises" that never happend, or we're not kept. This is a horrible service.

widow. two kids at home. married over 25 years. in my 50's. no idea how to proceed with life. enter great expectations. of course, i have to make a decision THEN, if i am to get this GREAT price. they would always be available to aid in my efforts to find my 'love'. they went on and on about their successes, who supported their efforts, and all that happy stuff.

oh, i have called, and written, and they are QUICK to get back with me, with ideas of how i can increase my chances of success. interestingly, tho, EACH one would require MORE money. and each time they told me that i just needed to bide my time, as the one for me may not have joined yet. and here i sit. i have not been chosen even once. most of the time, if i select someone, the selections stays open for months with no response, showing rudeness and a lack of manners. people i would be proud to represent. not.

i have also found out that i paid MUCH more than anyone else i have talked to. i am totally totally unsatisfied with the pie in the sky that was given in their rush to sell presentation.

I met someone through GE and am very happily married. My membeship expired two years ago. I asked them to take down my profile repeatedly- via emails and phone calls. I still get emails that "Ken in Long Island", etc. is interested in me. I am very upset that there are men out there who think I am too rude to respond! I do not even remember my password to get on the site to somehow communicate with them that I am not actualy available!

Ruth of Stow, OH September 10, 2009

I have submitted a complaint against Great Expectations in the recent past. However, I am happy to report that this past week, Great Expectations reimbursed me the full amount of my contract, 1295. Thank you for providing soap box.

Michelle of falls church, VA August 28, 2009

As a former employee with GE- check with your local state agency or BBB- some states have a 3 day right to resend. Meaning you have 3 business days to change your mind. They can also issue the charge back to your credit card immediiately while you wait but the bank may take 4-6 days to return to money to your account.

They actually do something else you may not know about... While your in with the salesperson you fill out all your information with credit card number, exp date, address with zip code and whatever else is on that paper. That salesperson may take it to the manager for "approval" but what really happens is they call the credit card company, put in your cc# and zip code and get your AVAILABLE BALANCE... This way they will be able to give you a special rate on a package...Just so happens to be about the same amount you have on your credit card..

Becare and remember you don't need a service to help you find the right one for you... you need to believe in yourself, hold your head high, maybe work on your appearance if you think you need to and it will happen. I promise it will. Sorry for your troubles....

Ruth of Stow, OH August 11, 2009

I signed a contract on 4/25 for 1295. I returned home and realized I could not afford this so I called Kristin B on 4/27 after work at 5:20 pm and told her I would have to cancel the contract. I asked her what I should do to complete the cancelation and she told me nothing, that she would handle it. I did write her a letter and sent it the next day, confirming our phone conversation.

When My Visa bill arrived the charge was there so I called her again but was not able to reach either her or a supervisor so I left her a message. Citi agreed to remove the charge and begin an investagation. I thought GE would say there had been an error and all would be fine. Last Monday I received word from Citi stating I had lost my dispute. Included was a letter from GE stating they had never received a phonecall from me retracting my contract, neither had they received a letter. What a shock! My credit number is 850 - I have never had a problem like this.

I am 72 years old and though I work full time I am still living on a limited income. If it was not for my strong faith and good friends I would feel even worse than I do. I have written to the BBB and Ohio Attorney General and am repealing my dispute findings. When I found this website of GE complaints I was disheartened.

i felt like i was pressured into taking their dating products they pulled a credit checked on me without my permission they told me that they were going to pull a back ground check but not a credit beuru. They also promised me there were lots of guys my age on the program but wouldnt let me see any prospects until i joined once i joined there arent any males my age. they also said they did lots of group activies but didnt say that you had to pay extra for each event. I was also pressured into buying a photo package and online memo package but wasnt told that the online was extra each month so i paid for a package i cant use. they were very pushy. I feel they used my loneliess against me to make me buy their product

anita of mcdonough, GA August 4, 2009

Wow, I can't believe what I am hearing. I have not gone in to take my photo yet but after reading all of this, I don't want to. Now I see why the sales lady rushed the heck out of us. They give you a distracting form that requests info such as who you are, what you are looking for, etc., at the same time they put they pull out the contract. She told me and another guy that she was pushed for time and that she had another group of people that she had to do because she was the only person available.

My question is why are there different prices for everyone? How did they determine the annual percentage rate if my credit is frozen. I just notice that my amount is slightly higher than she stated. I am angry at myself for letting my guards down and signing something without reading it. I was tricked.
