First USA Bank

To put it mildly, First USA Bank is not a consumer crusader. It's notorious for its high interest rates, ever-multiplying fees and not-so-nice customer service. And not too long ago, First USA coughed up $1.3 million to settle a deceptive practices case brought by 28 states. Seems the bank had provided its customers names and account numbers to telemarketers, who then sold (or said they sold) various goods and services to the bank's long-suffering account holders.

Besides all that, there are such tales as this ...

First USA Bank
Rapidly rising interest rates
Late & overlimit fees
Unauthorized charges
Charges on phantom cards
Misapplied payments

First USA Pays $1.3 Million in Deceptive Practices Case

I got an e-mail from Experian that an inquiry was made and was on my alerts with them. I found out it was First USA Bank that made the inquiry. There was no explanation as to why there was an inquiry. The only reason I can connect to this inquiry was that I opened a Pier 1 account the day the inquiry was made. Last year, I had Lifelock put fraud alerts on all my accounts; maybe that's why First USA made the inquiry. I think it's insane that neither Experian nor First USA can give me a reason why the inquiry was made!

I have a Chase Business Credit card, 2 weeks ago they lowered my credit limit from 25000 to 10000 due to " low" usage of the credit line. In their letter they stated that they believe that I don't need this high line of credit, therefore they have lowered it to 10000. I called and asked them to change it back to 25000, since I am afraid that this may neg. effect my credit score. They said quickly they will look into it and I should receive a notification within the next 10 days about their decision. Today, May 12, I received a notification from EQUIFAX that they got a 'hard' inquiry from FIRST USA BANK which I did not authorized. Is this a new way to get access to credit reports? First you lower the credit line significantly, hoping the costumer will call, requesting some kind of action, like reinstating the original line of credit, which in their mind gives them now the right to make a 'hard' credit inquiry. BTW, I never had a balance on this card, other than the grace period. I payed every balance in full every month since we have the Chase card. This is also true with all my other cards. Current rating is 796.

This is a VISA card my daughter has. This company markets to college students. She went over limit last month by a few cents when her finance charges of 20 something hit. Her fault. She was charged a 37 overlimit fee. I went online and paid the minimum due. I ran the numbers it should have been fine. AFTER the statment dropped she was charged additional fees of 74...not refected on her statement. She paid minimum which of course does not reflect the additional 74 her statment says minimum due is 49.48. They keep adding on fees AFTER the statement drops so if she goes by the statement she can NEVER catch up.

She has not used this card since the first time she went over limit. Shouldn't the fees be added on at the time the statement drops so it's part of the info she has to pay. timimg seems to be off, well not for them, it's in their favor. Two months this has happened, this would have been the third month if I had not pulled it up online she would have once again been charged additional fees because she isn't catching up.

This all started due to .48 cents. She was afraid to mention it and being her first card was confused as to how the finance charges work, but felt this wasn't right. I am glad she broke down and ask. I would be a lot of student don't so this company is able to take advantage of their imaturity. So far, Brittney, a first year nursing student living on her own has paid out 100's in fees....she does not have that kind of money and quite frankly neither do I.

My bank card numbers have been stolen multiple times. I have had to get so many new cards I have lost count.I am sick of the bank having to appologise for all the inconveniences. At the moment I am down half my wages because the bank have paid out money taken fraudulently through my new card. They also had to cancel my one and only bank card while I wait 7-10 days for my New card! Its just ridiculous!

I have no connection whatever with this bank. However, they made a credit inquiry (not authorized by me) to Experian in September 2008 that resulted in my credit being downgraded by that credit agency. I was able to locate First USA Bank address and phone number on the internet (see above). I talked to a pleasant customer service rep who will send a letter to all three credit agencies explaining the situation. She promised that a copy of the letter will be sent to me in about a week. Here is the phone number that I used to reach them: 302-594-8200.
