Colleen of Sprakers NY (9/6/03):
I have the Revlon 052 curling iron and suffered a severe burn to my arm, damaged & burned off my hair. I am extremely furious about this accident. The curling iron itself turned black from burning. This specific item is dangerous to own, to use, and your health and safety. I had to treat my burned arm, suffer a severe burn, cut my hair three times and it still looks fried. I have a permanent scar. The loss of a curling iron which could of started a fire. I had to buy special items to treat my hair and the burn on my arm.

Candice of Republic MO (9/3/03):
I have been growing my hair out for 2 years for my upcoming wedding. I used the 052 Revlon curling iron. The entire back of my hair burnt off. It didn't just burn - it actually turned my hair to black charcoal like dust. This happened one month before my wedding. I sent them my hair and they lost it! I still have the curling iron, tons of pictures, and hair samples.

Damage Resulting: It cost me $300 to repair my hair and it still doesn't look right! It is pretty hard to repair melted hair right before a wedding!

Rebecca of Henderson NV (11/3/02):
My description of my personal hair-hell would be much longer if I hadn't scanned a few of the anguished complaints posted. Suffice to say that chunks of my hair were burnt off, others merely (!) frizzed beyond redemption. In the latter stages of assuming somehow I was mucking up, I had dialed the control down to #1 (on a scale of 1-20!)

Damage Resulting: Huge, in my mind. The smell was atrocious, my hair is now *&%#(&$@-ed after having always taken such great care of it. My personal style is longish, I try to use only the best products; condition & trim often ... hell, a pricy hairspray in its softest version is something I may not use even weekly. Now, my pretty, healthy hair is burnt straw & I am so upset.

I have told only one person besides my husband; I just am not generally a complainer. Ironically, my friend (an internal therapist) uses the identical Revlon tool, at the full setting of 20! Rest assured I will warn her off as soon as the sun rises. At present I am sporting an oddly chopped & frizzed do; this is not something I earned through carelessness or any other fault. I would like for SOMEONE to do SOMETHING to salve my feelings through the transition back to hair that doesn't resemble a cheap wig.

Michelle of Germantown WI (4/4/02):
I have bought the 60 second heat up curling iron by Revlon twice and I believe this curling iron should have a recall. The curling iron singed my hair even on the number 1 setting, The curling iron smokes and burns your hair right off before you can even pull it away. Two inches of my hair was damaged because of this curling iron, I am very concerned that this product is being sold and not recalled. Two inches of my hair was damaged several times, I had to go to a salon just to get something done with all that was burnt.

Jay of Ladson SC (9/20/02):
I have bought 4 60-second curling irons in the past year. Everyone of the irons break in the same spot, right in the fold of the iron where it bends. There might be some sort of defect in them and it is very expensive to have to buy a curling iron so often, when they should last longer.

Carolyn of Shelbyville TX writes (8/7/01):
I used the Revlon 052 curling iron and it burnt my hair off as soon as it hit my hair. I didn't even have a chance to pull the hair off the curling iron. I was minutes from leaving on my vacation, having reservations. I had to phone the hilton and tell them i would be late in hopes that they would not cancel my room for the weekend.

I had to get a $75 haircut to repair the hair that was burnt off my head. I had been letting my hair grow to one length but have since with my sadness and aggravation had to get it layered with some of it being verrrrrrrry short. I was very upset with having a new haircut for my trip. I don't know about this curling iron. I think it could be very dangerous.

Christa of Willow Grove PA (8/9/00):
I heated up the 60-second curling iron. I curled my entire head of hair with no problem. I started to put the last peice of my hair in the curling iron and before I closed it on my hair I could smell it burning. I tried to pull it away from my hair instantly and a big chunk of my hair burned off with the iron.

I now have a large bald spot at the crown of my head. I examined the iron afterwards and discovered that the iron had gotten so hot that it melted the plastic tip of the iron and distorted it.

Amy of El Paso (1/16/01):
I bought a curling iron at Walgreens model RV051 which heats up in 60 seconds. I use this curling iron almost everyday. I always keep it on the same setting and I never use gel or mouse in my hair when curling it.

I used it last week just like everyday when I began to curl my hair and smoke began to come out of the curling iron. I got scared and immediately tried to take the curling iron off my hair when a chunk of my hair was literally burned and stuck to the curling iron. It burned about 2 1/2 to 3 inches of my hair.

Alison of Seattle writes:
I bought a curling Iron from Target at for a Christmas present to my daughter. It's a revlon model RV052 claims to heat up in 60 seconds. After the second use it heated in 60 seconds and I used it on my hair only to burn a large area.

The hair burned so quickly that I didn't have time to pull it away before my hair burned around the iron. My hair melted on the iron

I will have to cut my hair about 3 inches and I don't want to It takes me about a year to grow an inch of hair. I have been trying to grow it all one length for about 2 years.

Lyn of W. Fort Myers FL (8/11/03):
My husband treated me to a new curling iron, a Revlon Radiance which died within two weeks. Since we live in a hot, humid climate curls don't happen without help ... at least on my head! Therefore I would curl my hair in the morning and head off to work. After about two weeks the iron just died. It had not had excessive use, nor did it ever get overly hot, even on the #20, high, setting. He went out and bought me a second one. This one lasted slightly longer ... about three weeks.

Product quality and reliablity don't seem to be a top priority with Revlon but after writing a letter of complaint to Revlon I was further frustrated by not being able to find an address where I could mail my letter of complaint. On the e-mail they have multitudes of places to buy their products but no mailing address for valid complaints. How frustrating! They are more than willing to take our money but obviously they do not care to hear when they have a product failure.

This is obviously not a horrible experience such as the women who have endured burnt hair, repair haircuts, clipped eyelashes. This is just an annoyance to have to keep running out for a product you thought you had, to keep paying for something that was supposed to work in the first place but didn't, to have to take the time to run around and write letters, and to not be able to quickly and easily find an address for consumer complaints. Let me have my head examined if I ever buy another Revlon product!

Rachel of Poughkeepsie NY (12/17/03):
I bought three curling irons and they all broke. RV050C. I e-mailed Revlon only to be shuffled around to Helen of Troy after waiting 2 weeks for a response. I called Helen of Troy's 1-800 number and was greeted by a very nasty lady who explained that there was nothing she could do without a receipt. Don't they know what products they sell. She said she would take my complaint, but that was all she could do. I spent 30 dollars a piece on the curling irons, very disappointing that they wouldn't even offer to replace one!

I spent collectively 90 dollars on the curling irons and then went out and spent an additional 30 dollars on another
