Toshiba Settles TV Lamp Suit

Virginia of Dassel, MN June 28, 2009

After having a Toshiba Laptop computer only 4 yrs., the entire system board went out and of course the warranty was done. This computer was around 1500.00 and bought at Best Buy - would have thought there would have been a recall on this model but was not. Anyway - the cost of fixing the computer was close to buying a new one so I now have an HP. Toshiba - no more having products from your company.

I bought a laptop 9/13/07. After 6 months the power cord stopped working. Called and they sent another. 7 months later it stopped working again. I called and they sent another. Again 5 months later it went out again. I called and they sent another.

Now it is out again, 4 months after I got it and I call and they say they are not replacing them anymore. Too many complaints about this item.

Now I am stuck with a laptop I can not use. I have called and called and get no where. I need help.

2000 Qosimo purchase may 8, 2009. Right out of the box it demonstrated display issues, boot issues, BSOD, lengthy start up and shut downs, freezes, etc. I talked to tech support, as given on the bottom of my receipt and they laughingly told me that I would just need to restore the original software. Having no choice, I blew hours of time spent in building the software environment on the whim of a tech person, who upon being asked if he did not want to look over the event viewer, he said that he did not. I restored it and the problems continued. I called back and the call was escalated. the rudeness of Alex in the cust service area is remarkable. My position was that the problems had been documented upon reciept. I put them on notice of intent to return the unit. they insisted their 15 days had passed regardless of notice gifen, and they would not exchange it. Another tech wants to replace hard drive and memory. Again, he did no wan to look at the event viewer. I told him that critical errors go back to March 09 before the unit was sold to me. He showed no interest and reinterated the local repair shop names. I took it to their shop. The repair tech was shocked at the problems this 2000 unit has. He called them and they gave him the runaround making innocuous responses like "she must have put something on there". He told them that he tried a formatted hard drive and tried to put restore software on it and it froze. he has not choice but to change every part in it, the mother board, the HD, the memory, the video card, etc.. i aske him what if all of this fails to help, as major changes have not yet helped. He expressed concern that they would make me send back to them. I have the comments from others that the units are being returned unrepaired. I am very concerned. This is a business laptop and its contents and purpose are very important to me. I cannot believe that this is happening and that there may be no recourse. I have tried to obtain the name and contact info of the head of customer service, but his info is carefully guarded. The lower levels are simply non responsive.

We purchased a Toshiba laptop a year and a half ago from a retail store. Last month we upgraded the RAM from the 512 they gave us to the manufacturer specifications of of 2 gigs. 1 gig per dimm slot. We booted the computer and the BIOS only sees the 1 gig of RAM. We called the manufacturer who wanted to charge us a fee for asking a question ( we didn't pay ) their comment on one occasion was to reformat the hard drive. I'm a tech by trade, I know that won't work.

The 2nd tech said to flash the BIOS with an updated software. That didn't work. When we pressed the issue, their comment was that it was a software issue and since WE made the decision to upgrade the memory, they were not accountable and it's out of warranty. So had we upgraded the RAM within the 1 year warranty, we would of discovered this issue (they've known about all this time because I see other people complaining in the forums that they have the same issue ) but since we didn't discover their manufacturers defect within the time frame, we had to eat it.

I would not recommend a Toshiba product and would discourage the public from buying their products because of an apathetic concern for their customers on Toshibas part. Buyer beware of Toshiba Products.

Purchased a Toshiba Satelite 400U-157 from Sale Outlet on Feb 2009. It came with a standard 1 year warrenty. Shortly Could not use it because i was busy at our company exhbition after the work was over i was so happy to start and install the system and when i wanted to connect my brand new external hard disc the notebook through the USB Port the system was not able to read it. i tried both USB Ports and btoh did not work

I went to the Shop where i bought it they told me leave it here and will send to Dealer to fix it, after 3 weeks they came back said sorry it is not under warranty anymore you need to pay so we can fix it for you. i said why it is not on warranty, they told me because it has physical damaged from inside, i said i did not even use it for 1 hour. i just tried to connect my hard disk and the USB Ports are not working, sorry sir we can not do anything for that

we even spoke to Toshiba they said since the customer did not complain within 7 days from the purchase date we can not help him. i said i complained when i found out the problem what this has to do with the purchase date. how would i know if the Laptop has default unless i come across the problem. sorry sir we can not help you, ok give us the invoice copy we try again to speak to Toshiba,

then i was calling every week two times for more than 2 months and no result and ok sir we have not heard from Toshiba yet we will send them reminder. finally i called Toshiba my self they told me they will check with the dealer and come back another three weeks gone and no reply. i called and i was angry, the service manager Mr Thomas from Toshiba told me if you will keep your voice high i will not help you, i said what do you expect from me after more than 3 months running here and there and no results and you already got the money. now you threatening me to keep my mouth shut and not even to get angry. is this what Toshiba service stand for

sir i will call you tomorrow let me call then, again i did not receive any call. i call today. the tel operator Percy answer. i ask where is the directory of the company Mr Sanotsh. i need to speak to him. This is What Toshiba office dose when an angry customer call them to complain for the very low and Bad service after waiting 3 months to get his problem solved. i feel so much depressed and angry because i paid money three months ago and not get any benefit out of it. i have been treated bad like i m asking them for personal help. i feel they just want to run away from the responsibility which they have to do based on their company rules and consumer rights. I have been insulted when the girl hang up the phone in my face and said why i have to spoil her day

Purchased a Toshiba Satelite from Office Depot on Aug. 4, 2007. It came with a standard 1 year warrenty. Shortly after the warrenty ran out the USB ports (4) began going bad, sometimes they work sometimes they don't.

About 6 weeks ago the comperter began asking for bios password even though a password had never been set. The computer was unusable without it. Did research and found Toshiba was aware of this so I contacted them and sent the computer in for the fix at no charge. Suddenly the computer refuses to boot. LED lights come on Power light comes on and cooling fan but the computer refuses to boot.

Did more research found that the motherboards in toshiba laptop computers go bad shortly after the warrenty expires. I don't know if this is so toshiba can sell more motherboards or more laptops.

Contacted toshiba suppot was told my computer was out of warrenty and there was nothing they could do. I would have to pay for the repair plus parts. A new motherboard cost 395.00 just for the part! I was also told those motherboards are on backorder and they didn't know when my computer could be repaired.

I purchased a Toshiba Satellite A205- S5804 on January 3, 2008 and since that time I have had to send this laptop back to Toshiba 5 times for repairs. Once to replace the Mother Board, three times to repair the CD/DVD drive, and once it just wouldn’t start. Also it goes off while in the middle of a project and when I press the start button it goes to safe mode, and asks if I want to start in “normal” mode. After the second repair I purchased the extended warranty because I couldn’t afford the chance of having to pay for these repairs.

I feel this has gotten out of hand, as it seems that no matter what repairs are done to it, they do not seem to be successful. I just received the unit back on Thursday from the last repair and it still remains inoperable and now I will have to send it back again. You have had this laptop for repairs more than I have had the use of it, I am asking you instead of once again unsuccessfully trying to repair it. I would ask that you now replace this Toshiba Satellite with a new one. I sincerely appreciate your attention to this matter as it has caused me considerable consternation over the past year and a quarter.

I received a call from someone at Toshiba Corp. On Friday May 29 Marissa said she received my letter and wanted to speak to me, at that time I was unavailable. When I returned her call they told me she had already gone for the day. Yesterday I called the number she gave me the operator said that she could not be connected but she would leave her an e- mail and would get back to me that afternoon, she didn't. Today is Tuesday June 2nd. she returned my call this afternoon. She said she had all the paperwork of all My repairs, but could not replace the laptop, she said if I had trouble again I should let her know. Four times I had to replace all my files, this time the Laptop would not restore my files. I have been on the phone to Microsoft three times, and they do not know why it won't back up. I feel I have been to "Hell" and back. Toshiba is not willing to assist their consumers the way a reputable company should.

I purchased a toshiba laptop less than a year ago, from circuit city when they where still in business and before they started the liquidation sale. The computer froze multiple times and was taken to the circuit city fire dog repair team, who replaced the computer.

I then received a second toshiba laptop. The same problems arose. Sent it in for repairs around christmas time last year. Picked it up after christmas and still didn't work. A couple of days later I was told by a circuit city employee to bring in the computer on saturday and they would try again to fix the problems. Went to circuit city on a Saturday, 45 minutes away and was told that since they filed for bankruptcy they wouldn't fix it. I then started contacting toshiba warranty department. They instructed me to send it to one of there 5 star repair centers. They kept it for 10 days, and after using it for less than 2 days it was freezing already. Contacted Toshiba warranty department again, and was told I would get a box to ship the laptop to there repair center. I am still waiting for the box and papers to ship them the laptop for repairs, which are are all supposed to be covered under the warranty. People wake up! Let’s be proactive!

Download all the complaints and next time you go to an electronics stores like Best Buy, Fry’s leave these flyers on the car windows in the parking lot and start boycotting toshiba products. If we can stop 1000 or more sales it will give us the satisfaction of knowing they got some attention from the public and that Toshiba will take notice of people dissatisfaction of there products.

Two years ago I decided to buy a good Laptop. After lots of investigation I selected Toshiba because its price and quality was suitable for me. Toshiba Satellite P100-221 was marvellous for me because satellite series are Tough Laptop and P100-221 has 17 monitor with other required specification. I paid around 2500 US and bought my Laptop in Muscat (that time I was living there). But First I disliked its keyboard. My friends that had bought Acer and HP laptops much cheaper than mine, their keyboard were much better than mine things that never I imagined. Anyhow I had to accept it and after sometimes I used to use it. During this period (2.5 years), as I was using only a few hours a day I could use it but suddenly around 5 months ago I found new problems: I could not connect to Internet. Yellow hatches and mathematical symbols appeared on my desktop As I never thought these problems facing due to my laptop So first I thought it is because of internet connection problems so I tried to solve it but I could not. For hatches I thought it is an effect of Virus and spam problem so I formatted my laptop with difficulty to get a backup of all information but it did not work at all so at the end I contacted with Toshiba customer centre and they made me happy because its VGA card and modem needed to be changed! they told me that because I bought my laptop in another country (I relocated from Middle East to Malaysia and its guarantee finished so they can not provide spare part for it and I have to provide it from Middle East! Now really I am frustrated of Toshiba because of its bad customer service and quality. It is funny that they can not provide the spare part and I as a customer, have to provide it and you can imagine that actually in this case again it will be my responsibility if the spare parts will not work properly! At the end I decided to buy a new laptop (it will be cheaper and safer) not Toshiba brand (NEVER EVER).
