Rebate advice from Tiger Direct

Seung-hyun of Montreal, Quebec (8/5/04):
I ordered a 256MB Sandisk SD card from TigerDirect on 17th of July and paid via PayPal. Just after the order, I saw some comments of other users of my PDA saying that most of the Sandisk SD cards have problems with my PDA. So, I e-mailed Tigerdirect and immediately canceled the order via phone the next day. And now, after two and half weeks later, I still didn't get the refund for the canceled order yet. I e-mailed more than 5 times. TigerDirect didn't even check it carefully until their third reply.

They told there was nothing shipped out so there never was a charge, even though I confirmed the amount was paid via PayPal and had receipt for that. I contacted PayPal and they replied confirming the transaction was completed on 17th of July. I showed it to TigerDirect and then they said they're sorry and they would contact me within 24 or 48 hours. That was a week ago. I sent e-mails two more times and tried to contact them via phone but gave up after 15 minutes of waiting. I'm sure they have PayPal transaction records and it'll take less than a few minutes to check it out and return my money. But they just keep ignoring my requests.

Don of Avondale AZ (5/13/04):
I was just on the phone with a Tiger Direct salesperson. This person was extremely rude and I do not have any appreciation for the less than professional tone he use during my inquiry of their policy on the return of dead pixel LCDs. I would hope this person is not representative of the employee training or service Tiger Direct provides prospective and current customers.

Thank goodness I have not purchased any products from Tiger Direct. In fact, as a state government buyer I have removed TD from our vendor list and will recommend it be removed from our Military Division list.

"W" of Lafayette CA (10/20/02):
It seems to be hard to get this company to pay shipping costs for returns, something other companies do as a matter of course. I ordered a computer kit, and the speakers that came with the kit were DOA. I agreed to return them for credit, and the speakers were returned and my "account" has been credited. As to shipping, T.D. said they would reimburse me for the shipping cost if I would fax a copy of the receipt for shipping. Here it is 6 weeks later, 2 faxes and 3 phones calls, and still no reimbursement for shipping. Either they are incompetent or not serious about reimbursing shipping costs for defective items.

There are other companies, and local retailers, that are less frustrating to deal with. You may spend an extra 5%, but if you are buying computer components, going to a place with a well-established and convenient return policy is worth it.
