Graphic Card Problem May Affect Millions of Computers

Nischit of Chennai, OTHER March 29, 2009

Nischit of Chennai OTHER (03/29/09)
My HP laptop DV 9500 (bought in Nov 2008) is equipped with nVIDIA video card M8600GS. My laptop is a year old and today all of sudden my screen stopped displaying. I took it to the service center and they reloaded the bias. It worked. After 2 days, colored lines appeared in my screen and my computer shutdown again. Now it is not booting. Looks like the bias software should be reloaded again. I checked on net and found it is due to nVIDIA cards and there is no fix for it. Now I am unable to use the laptop which was bought for 1350. The service center is asking me to replace the mother board which costs Rs 30,000 INR. Well this is no solution and I am pretty dissapointed with the HP service and nVIDIA when there is no fault of mine

I bought HP Pavilion DV9500 for 1350 in Nov 2008. The laptop was purchased in US. Now my laptop has stopped booting due to the problem with nVIDIA chipset. HP Service center is asking me to replace the mother board. It costs Rs 30000 INR in India. Moreover the service center guys are stating they dont support this model in India so I have to take it back to US. This is total nonsence. If HP is claiming world wide service, why not in India? Moverover the problem with nVIDIA cards was publicly declared. Why didnt they call back the products and replaced it? Now the only option that I have is to buy a new one as this old one is useless. I have to shed 11350 again.

I'm using LG laptop 15.4. My graphic card is Nvidia Geforce 8600gs. First, I got same problem which you mentioned in July, 2008. And LG was changing my graphic card. But, after 2 weeks, I got same problem again and again. So, the problem was repeated 3 times. After changing 3 times. Until March, 2009, there was no problem. But, a few days ago, I have gotten same problem. LG, they still tried to hide the real problem.

I'm writing my thesis in graduate school. But, I can't write my thesis now. Because, my research materials are in my laptop. I hate their moral hazard, I mean LG and Nvidia. I really want to do legal processing, if I have money. Their hiding is really disgusting.

Video card (nvidia 8500GT) was replaced by HP in 11/2008 with the same video card, which is again givin me problems! Overheating, lockups, BSOD, and no video input to the monitor! My warranty expires in 24 days and they tell me I don't qualify for the extended warranty under the lawsuit because my computer is not listed as a qualifying unit (HP Slimline s3430f.)

This PC is my only PC that I use for work. Once it's down, I have to fork out another 2000 to get a similar computer (quadcore/4GB RAM).

I have a HP Pavillion DV9500 series and have the suspect Nvidia card. I have contacted the HP customer services but only got a reply basically askign me to contact out of warranty claims. They will not accept any liability.

Dell sells the Vostro 1400 with the Nvidia graphics processing unit problem. Typically manifests itself by the video screen on the computer either being unable to display anything or displaying a number of colored lines across the screen.

500-1000 usd for new computer
