Graphic Card Problem May Affect Millions of Computers

Tanya of Ashland, OR August 10, 2008

Tanya of Ashland OR (08/10/08)
I am one of millions of individuals with nVidia graphic chipsets in a Dell Vostro 1500. As soon as my warranty was up, Dell wanted to charge me just to talk to someone and although my laptop doesn't show signs of failures yet, I am supposed to wait for it to happen and then dutifully pay Dell to fix a problem they know is caused by a defect in one of the parts they used. It's just wrong and their only fix for it is a BIOS update to increase the fan rate. That's not a fix, that's a temporary bandaid that doesn't change the fact that this laptop now has a shorter working life in the future.

Rick of Placentia, CA June 25, 2008

Rick of Placentia CA (06/25/08)
I purchased a Dell XPS 720 computer in November 2007. In Feb 2008 the two hard drives started to fail. Dell sent out replacements and that is where the problems started. The replacements were blank and I had to install all the software myself. After several install attempts, I continue to get Video driver errors that crash the system. Repeated calls to Dell have not resolved the problem nor will Dell take the system back.

This system was purchased as both a base home use and a high end gaming machine (the system was advertised as such by Dell). It is completely worthless as a gaming system if the video continues to crash. The drivers shipped with the system and are reported by both NVidia and Microsoft to be the latest. Dell Tech support has been NO help after hours. All the problems have ended up being solved by myself (I do not consider a Dell tech support guy telling me to reboot repeatedly to be a helpful encounter).

A 4400 system is WORTHLESS for what it was purchased for and continues to crash 4 to 8 times a day.
