Taiwan's Acer Buys Gateway, eMachines
Gateway Buys eMachines

Kevin of San Marcos CA (02/09/09)
I have few of the e-machines, hp and clone computers. When the e-machines started to fail I fixed them new hard drives and I had to buy Microsoft cds to install the operating system, I tried to purchase the replacement cd from e-machines back then but all I got then was a spin around. This happened about 3 years ago.

I just got off chat with anoobcw, or something like that, from e-machines and was told because they are 2004 computers to have a nice day that was exactly the phrase, have a nice day. The fact of the matter is I tried to resolve nearly 3 years ago but did not have the time. The economy has slowed down so I have time to take another run at e-machines to resolve this old issue so I tried today.

Now it seems that Microsoft Corp would have made it mandatory that e-machines have the available cds for the customer to purchase at reasonable prices like HP does but the person I dealt with anoob would not help. By the way I stopped purchasing the e-machines for two reasons, one they fail, two when you try to resolve something it gets nowhere. I do not know if Consumer Affairs knows about this but e-machines has a written policy, if you email them and it is not resolved in 7 days it is dropped, what the heck is up with that you would think they are a better company than that.

I do not remember what it cost to repair the e-machines computers but I do remember how unhappy I am with them as a overall company.

I received my computer as a gift four years ago and I never had one problem with it. Works like a charm and I just love my computer.

I tried to do an os restore on an emachines t3406 and come to find out that the disc (CD not DVD) did not contain any of the original software (like ms works etc.) but also was missing even the drivers for the emachines hardware (like dvd/cd drive). Do they really think that saving 20 cents on media for a 400 pc is going to make a difference for them financially? And then they want 130 an hour (well 90 min actually) to give advice over the phone (to people that dont speak english clearly enough to understand) if it is out of warranty. My opinion, this company should not be allowed to do business in the US. I will do anything in my power to warn others not to buy this junk. Kudos to you guys for trying to make a difference.

down the drain.

Purchased Emachine premium notebook from best buy in 2005. Within waranty they replaced defective hinges on case which was a widely known issue with Emachines and the computer world. then less then a year later, the replaced case developed the very same issue. Finally the replacement is ready to break and acer the current owner of gateway/emachine is claiming it is out of waranty (which it cleary is) and refuses to address the lemon, selling known defective merchandise issue.

a three year old 1800 is renderd useless to me by a company that knowingly used defective parts, not one but twice on the same sale. i would like the issue resolved with an improved case or a laptop of equal value. These cracks hae been well covered in forums on the net for years

I bought a emachines laptop and it is overheating and turning off by its self. Resulting in thousands of dollards in programming and hours of research lost. I researched this issue to see if I can fix it and I understand there is a active class action underway. Id like to be apart of this suit due to emachines selling me a faulty product.

Lost information, Projects not delivered on time and resulted in thousands of dollars lost, not to mention all my countless hours of research.
