Taiwan's Acer Buys Gateway, eMachines
Gateway Buys eMachines

Va of Pleasant Grove CA (04/08/09)
We purchased an Emachine in January 2009, Model EL1210-09, a fairly inexpensive model, for maintenance data of our Trucks. On 4/6/09, after the Norton antivirus trial period was over, we installed the Panda antivirus. We did a RESTART to finish the install, and the computer would not STARTUP or go to the Log-in screen. Contacted Emachine Support and followed their suggestions by turning it off then on, tried to use Safemode, that didn't come up either, got to the BIOS menu, did a default, that didn't work either...

Asked if there was a service center we could take it to... No, need to send it in to them and any data that was not saved, would be lost...said they were not responsible for data lost, as the costumer is responsible for saving their own data. We understand that concept, but this POS has only been in service for 2 months. Now, we need to take to a technician to try to see if we can save any data before we send in for repair.

If we are undable to save our Data, it will take approximately 80 hours of re-input of any maintenance data that was lost. The phrase 'You get what you paid for' is true for this product. Please post this incidence, so other consumers do not buy this product or any other Emachine product, as from what I have read of other reviews, the Emachines should not be in business.

I purchased a E Machine from Best Buy On Friday 11.28.09. 3 Weeks later my machine crashed (black screen)I tried to return the Emachine to best buy. but i was over the 14 day return policy. I called the service number i found on thier website on 01.17.09 and spoke to Archana (in India) B#GWSI069. I spent 2 hours on the phone with her trying to to fix the problem with no avail. She said wait 10 day and she would she a recovery CD.The Cd came and i tried it and that didnt work. I called back the service number to tell them that it didnt work.

I spoke to Deepv B#GWSI059 (in India)on 01.28.09 we tried fixing it over the phone spent another 1 hr and 1/2.Her solution was wait 10 for her to send a nother recovery cd. I did tell her if it didnt work the first time it wont work... so i waited another 10 days. When it came i tried it and it didnt work.(Duh!!)I return to Best Buy to try and return the defective machine but they didnt want to exchange it or return my money. The tried to fix it. That took almost a month, when i got it back it didnt work either...

So i called again and spoke to Venky (in India)on 02.21.09 B#GWSI271 and he said he doesnt know what is wrong and to call back. So i called back on 02.23.09, i spoke to Rangay (in India) B#DWFI101 and he said to call back 3 days later to the Level 2 Department.... All this time is going by on my warranty. I believe this is their way of stalling. After all of this running around i called Level 2 department and spoke to and American named Partick and his solution was to to mail them the machine at my expense to be fixed. In my frustration i wrote a complaint to the BBB. and they called in the complaint and a Customer Rep called a week later and said all she can tell me to do is to send the machien in for repair at my expense... I havent sent the machine off to them because i dont have the money to do it.

I dont have use of a computer. This si a big inconvience, cant check my business emails. Paying Bills manually, now i have to buy stamps to send my mail out.An expence i didnt before. As well as i have AT&T billing me for interent service which i dont have because i have no computer.

I purchased an Emachines computer from Wal-Mart of Laurel, MS, on July 31, 2007. I purchased an extended warranty at that time. I have called the warranty service line for help about seven times and although they were trying to be helpful, the problem is still there. I spend a lot of money at this store and I do not understand why my computer cannot be replaced. My internet and Microsoft products have been tested and are working fine. I think after paying for a warranty, someone should come fix my computer or it should be replaced. I spend at least 1,000.00 monthly at Wal-Mart. It may not sound like much to everyone, but it is a lot to someone whose husband is disabled and trying to raise a child.

Due to this computer problem, I have been unable to turn in my online college assignments, therefore resulting in a failed grade. If you do not fix or replace this computer, I will have no choice but to take legal action. The Better Business Bureau and a good lawyer is just a phone call away.

My husband bought this computer for me in Oct. 2008. It was very slow and would frequently lock on me. I called Best Buy and they said I should contact the Emachines company. Twice I emailed them and twice I called and spoke to people in Southern India. Finally I asked for a number to call in the US. Called 866 which was a recording saying I would have to pay for technical support. The computer is still under warranty.

Why can't our government protect us from such ripp offs. We pay enough taxes. Why are the majority of calls to American Companies answered by people in India and the Phillipines? Why purchase an American product when they do not hire americans who understand our cultural mores and needs? I could not find a contact number for Gateway which is sub of Emachines.

I tried to find a number for ACER Repair center in Texas who,I am told,is the place where Emachines are repaired. I read so many negative reports about this center that I am hesitant to send it there. What is happening to our Country? What can we do as a group to improve services other than boycot the industries involved.

Have to purchase another computer.
