Dell Talks Back

We are awash in complaints about unpaid Dell rebates. The complaints below represent just a tiny fraction of the megabytes of complaints we've received over the last few years. There is no sign the situation is improving, so buyer beware!

Anyone with a similar complaint should do the following:

  • File a complaint with us; complaints to our site often lead to class action lawsuits which penalize offenders and get at least some recompense for consumers.
  • File a copy of the complaint with the Federal Trade Commission, which prosecutes violators;
  • File a copy of the complaint with your state's attorney general. You can find the address in our Resource Directory.

Purchased Dell laptop 4/08 with 75 dell dollar rebate. Never received it. When I inquired I was met with rude condescending customer service people. When requesting managers was put on hold or cut off. They say they sent the coupon by email, but I never got it. They said it was only valid for 120 days and has expired. How can I use it within 120 days if I never got it. Classic bait and switch.

I purchased based on promised rebate, rebate never sent, then told rebate expired. It is fraud to promise a rebate and then not give it. This is a geat deal for Dell to pocket all the rebates. How it it that they are above the law? How can an individual demand their rights when Dell blatently steals from its cutomers.

I purchased a PC from Dell on 2/13/08 and at the time there was a promotion that gives you a gift card for 100 Dell dollars to be spent on Dell products. Once the prurchase was finalized I was told by the rep I would recieve the gift card in the mail in about 8 to twelve weeks from the time of purchase. After folowing up numerous times totaling about 4 calls and always being told that it was in process I was finally told today when I called again on 12/2/08 that the card was emailed to me and that it had already expired and could not be reissued. That is not acceptable calls were made numerous times and incorrect information given and I do not think I should have to lose out on a promotion that was offered by them because of their poor customer service.

I had intended on using that to purchase a speaker system from them for my PC as well as the time and energy put in the making the call to a company where you are on the phone for a good 45 mins minimum and tranferred at least 4 times before someone decides to get on the phone and help you. The only time you get a person right away is if you call their sales line to make a purchase. Pls help if you can it is principal at this point.

I ordered a laptop with a 200 rebate. As soon as the laptop arrived, I sent all paperwork for the rebate. When I checked on the rebate, I was told that I didn't have all the paperwork so I sent it all again. Again, they said they didn't have it all and I got a couple of e-mails with some bogus information. I finally gave up on getting the rebate which is exactly what they planned on happening.

My son is now looking for a new laptop and I mentioned Dell. He told me that there was a lawsuit won against them for problems with rebates among other things. I contacted Dell again to see if I could get some type of resolution. Of course, I couldn't and the person suggested I contact the main office. However, she could not give me an e-mail address or phone number for the main office. She was obviously working from another country.

I was baited into buying a laptop computer by being promised a rebate that they never intended to pay. I am out 200.

We purchased a home notebook computer. We received one weeks after they took our order. When we contacted Dell the very next day that it did not work the game required or have the programs, we were told they would send a coupon for 100 off of some of the programs. The coupons never arrived. When we contacted them again, we were told it was beyond the 21 day return policy that we had no recollection of being told about.

We are still without a computer at home.

I purchased a laptop computer for our church, and since we do not have a charge card (the church) I had to purchase it either on my credit card or some other way. The Dell sales rep. said that if I opened a personal expense account with Dell (which required me giving out my SS card no. which I really didn't want to do) that could get a 100.00 off the computer price. Since this for the church I agreed to do this. He told me that whenever I received my bill I would also receive the rebate for 100.00 and would simply send both of them in together when I paid for the computer, this would make my cost for the computer 100. less. I agreed to this.

Now I get my bill and guess what, no rebate. Now after spending a week going back and forth with some foreighner I am told that I am eligable for the rebate (Duh) and I will receive it in 10 - 20 days but am not permitted to use this rebate on the laptop, Oh yes the bill form dell was dated 10-02 and I didn't receive it till 10-11 and it is due 10-28 of course the fee on unpaid balances is somewhere around 20%. Go Figure, I think my next purchase will be from someone who really cares about their customers !

My church is out the 100.00 discount.
