Dell Talks Back

JEFFREY of HOBART, IN August 27, 2009

I financed a Dell computer in 2006 and been making payments for the last three yrs on time and over the minimum payment that is due. The computer was original purchased at 660.00 and now I have a balance of 1200.00. The Dell finance number will not help in seeking a resolution to my problem. I do know that I have paid several times of the amount of the computer.

Rita of Newark, NJ August 22, 2009

I purchased a laptop from Dell. I recieved a reciept that said it was 980.00 and I was charged 1,335.00. I had several issues with this and had to have it serviced many times. I paid over 400.00 extra and consequently two years of interest on my credit card.

Javier of College Point , NY August 17, 2009

I bought hard drive for my computer. but we find out that was no needed so we return the merchandise. Also Dell was supost to charge 49.99 for the tecnical support by phone to install the hard drive thing that never hapen. They give we a credit for the hard drive, but not for the tecnico support. We try to contact several times for the last two months but no body was able to help us and us today my account is 81.00 with penalty and late charges, when my balance supost to be 0.00

JoAnn of Madison, TN August 14, 2009

I financed a computer for 1500.00 I am ending up paying almost 4500.00 for the thing.I had to finally let it go to collections because the bill wasn't getting any smaller.I would send them extra thinking I was getting a jump on the next bill, but it didn't happen.

Wanda of Winchester, IN August 14, 2009

I purchased a computer from dell Oct.3,2004 for 1000.44. I was told at the time that there would be NO INTEREST charged. It has been almost 5 years and I owe 1784.72. on the computer which is junk. Have tried to talk to them on 3 different occassions and got no where. PLEASE HELP

brenda of monticello, KY August 14, 2009

I want to know why my bill has doubled in such a short time. I draw a disablity check. I barely make my bills so there is no way I can afford to pay this. If you don't get all these charges off my account I am having all my credit cards consaladted into one payment so I can make the payment get back on track again.

Brandy of Virginia Beach, VA August 11, 2009

I purchased a computer in late 2006. I financed it through Dell Financial. When the first year's worth of payments were made, they put my interest rate up to an astronomical amount. I was in school online and my previous computer died in the middle of a semester leaving me no choice but to finance a new one. My husband had also left me after 9 years of marriage for no reason leaving me with numerous bills to pay promising assistance, and never living up to that promise.

My financial status became difficult to manage and I contacted my creditors to make arrangements. I spoke to Dell on numerous occasions, many of which were due to harrassing phone calls for bill payment. When I spoke of my situation over a year ago, no offer of any hardship program was given to me, no matter how much I pleaded. I paid my bills, but late every month. Even though I kept in touch they sent me to collections.

My account went through several collection agencies. By that time, Dell's lack of understanding with me and my attempts to make payment arrangements ruined my credit. All of my other creditors were able to work with me. I don't know why they are so different.

Finally after the collections agency began harrassing me on a regular basis and many attempts to contact Dell about this, I was able to reach their hardship department with Dell Financial. They apologized profusely about the situation with the credit agency and took my account back with a hardship program. This still doesn't fix the problems with my credit all of this has caused. If they had done this for me a year ago when I told them there was a problem, I wouldn't be in such a horrible situation.

Now, I have a computer that the hard drive has crashed on that is less than 3 years old. I purchased it for 1,424.20 and have paid 1,344.75 on the account to date. I owe only 129.45 on the original price of the computer. My account balance because of Dell Financial's way of doing business and the very high interest rates is now 2,766.39. Not to mention this balance is on a computer that is DEAD!

Because I couldn't afford a warranty to extend after the first year, Dell states they can't help me with the crashed hard drive without paying for technical support. I am having a hard enough time as it is! The fact that the computer is dead is not even an issue for me anymore as there is nothing I can do about it. The fact that I still owe 2766.39 on a computer that I purchased less than three years ago for 1,474.20 and have already close to paid as much as the original purchase price makes me absolutely livid!

I need assistance. I don't feel I should pay any more money for this computer other than what is left on the original purchase price. Dell did not work with me when I tried to tell them there were payment problems until it was too late. I also asked them to mail me an itemized statement of my account nearly two weeks ago that they said they were putting in the mail and it still has not arrived.

I have also tried to call Dell Financial numerous times over the past week with very long hold times resulting in disconnection of my calls, and now this morning, I get to the department I need and I get a message stating "the department you are trying to reach is in a meeting, please call back in 2 hours!" with no ability to leave anyone a message. This is frustrating and I can't take any more of it.

Several months delinquency showing on my credit report causing me not to be able to obtain credit anywhere. This is not because I haven't tried to get help! It's because no matter how much I asked for an arrangement, they failed to assist until it was months too late. Their collection agency I.C. systems is also terrible. They harrased me daily even though I sent a cease and desist letter. They claim they never received the letter. They wanted me to pay several hundred dollars at a time, and I told them what I could afford. Nothing was ever good enough to stop the collection calls. They have literally ruined my financial life.

Jan of Colorado Springs, CO August 7, 2009

Every year I have bought a Dell computer and paid it off during tax season as I am a CPA. (past 3 years) I called to purchase a computer, January 2009 and asked to purchase a computer and that I would be paying it off during tax season. I was told no problem, I can pay it off early with no penalties and interest. I have now found out that I was signed up on a 24 month lease to own my computer!

Dell is now saying that they charge FMV of the computer at the end of their 24 month lease with purchase price of 400 to "own" my computer. This is an additional 400 along with monthly finance charges. I feel I was scammed by the salesperson.

I called to resolve this issue to pay the balance I owed on the computer and for them to drop the additional 400 due to false information I was told. I specificly said I wanted to purchase the computer.

First of all, I was giving false information about my computer purchase. Second of all, who really determines the fair market value of the computer? I asked Dell if they were willing to lose a client over this scam and they were. They would not correct this problem. I am appalled. I am only willing to pay for the balance I agreed upon to pay for my computer.

Jean of Medford, OR August 1, 2009

My experience with Dell has been unbelievably bad. I purchased a computer and paid it off IN FULL. Several months later I received a bill for 640.00 and didn't even know what murchandise this was for. I had ordered nothing else!! The worst part is that my son and I repeatedly tried calling Dell to straighten this out. Each time we were on the phone for 10 to 15 minutes being transferred several times explaining our problem each time. Finally the call was cut off. This happens each time we call.

The letters I wrote begging for a response have gone unanswered and ignored. Then last week I got a bill from a credit agency stating the account was being turned over to them for collection. I was furious and called the collection agency immediately; they do not know what the bill is for. I explained our luck with phones calls to India to agents who do not speak English in trying to straighten this all out.

This is so difficult to deal with and if I could afford it, a lawyer would be the one to contact the credit agency so this phony bill of 650.00 would not go against my credit. Buying from what I always thought was one of the best companies has been nothing but a nightmare and it isn't over yet. I will never buy one thing from anyone again who is associated with Dell.

Keevie of Martinsville, VA July 30, 2009

Dell's website credited my transaction 2 days after it actually occurred, resulting in late fees. When trying to resolve the issue with Dell Financial Services, I was given the run around and told to make a payment over the phone to stop the late fee. This would result in a double payment but would "save me the 9 dollar fee."

When asked to speak to a manager, the operator put me on hold for over a half hour before she returned and told me to call back in 15 minutes. I did as she asked and placed another call only to get an operator to hang up on me after pulling my information. My husband then called and would receive the same treatment.
