CompuServe Technical Problems

Diane of Des Plaines, IL, writes:
Okay, I've read all the horror stories on here regarding CompuServe customer service and rebates. I've only recently purchased a computer and sent in my rebate forms so I can't complain about that - yet. However, the technical services of Computech are another nightmare.

I have had my computer now for 10 days and have been trying to set up e-mail through MS Outlook using Compuserve as my internet provider (this shouldn't be a difficult thing to do!) First of all, I can't stay online even long enough to take care of business. It takes forever to connect (if at all) and once I do, I lose connections sometimes as much as 3 or 4 times in an hour. Also, if I contact their online tech support to ask questions on setting up the e-mail, they continue to give incomplete instructions, or half-answers, are condescending and rude.

I would give up and call the tech support phone number, but they would say they can't help me. As a matter of fact, a few times, the line went dead when I called (similar to the connection getting lost when I asked an on-line question....hmmmmmm....) The tech support people say they are "volunteers" and not CompuServe employees. I can't help but wonder if there are CompuServe employees, and if not, what are the qualifications, if any, to be a volunteer? I better rush to finish this before I lose the connection again.

I still have not been able to solve my e-mail set-up problems, and the last time I tried to contact tech support online after taking 10 minutes to give details on my problems (for the 10th time) I lost the connection before I could send. I'm ready to throw the whole computer through the window!

Don't do that! It might hit somebody, who would very likely not be Ted Turner or any other AOL Time Warner executive.
