Apple is a fraud Company. I had an iPod Nano in almost perfect condition, except that the screen was slow to respond to touch. Under warranty, I returned to Apple for evaluation. They returned the iPod and it was totally trashed. They removed the screen and claimed I ruined the iPod. Now, I have a worthless machine that was about 98 percent workable. Now they have the nerve to claim that I opened the screen. What a joke. It appears the repair dept. tried to repair the unit, but screwed it up and and now are trying to blame the consumer. What a corporate nightmare. It appears they have the market, to be so blatant about screwing their customers. Beware, there is no warranty with Apple, Inc. No wonder their stock is going nuts, no expense on warranty repairs.
Consumer Complaints & Reviews

iPod Nano 6th generation: My experience was the same as the person I just read below. I went to Apple store and the red light water damage story was delivered by an arrogant kid. Same offer to sell me another one for $65. This is the third one I have tried. No more. It is a stupid product designed by stupid engineers, as obviously, the touch screen in going to get damp when running.

I bought an iPod Nano for my daughter's birthday. For once I bought it 3 weeks early rather than the day before. Straight out of the box, it didn't work. The 'Apple' shop will not take it back after 7 days, so I have to send it away for 2 to 3 weeks and explain to my daughter why she doesn't have her birthday gift. What a joke!

I bought a new iPod on October of 2011 for $145 at Target. In December, just 2 months later, it will not hold a charge more than 5 hours even if it is not being used. I finally took it to the local Apple Store in Fresno, CA. The kid who helped me was very snooty and bordered on rude. He pulled out his little pocket penlight and said, "oh wow, it looks like it has moisture damage by the fact that I can see a pink reflection". He then said, "we don't cover moisture damage, sorry". I was the one who was sorry though. I admit that I do use the iPod at the gym, that is what it is for and it is possible that a drop of sweat may have landed on it. But you have got to be kidding me. A music player that cannot withstand a drop of sweat once in awhile?
He made an offer that he would replace mine with a refurbished unit for $65. Why would I want to waste anymore money on a product that does not hold up and the company does not stand behind? That will be my last Apple product, ever. I have a SanDisk on the way for less than the $65 replacement fee of this crummy iPod.

I purchased 2 iPod Nanos as presents. We purchased $15 worth of songs for each iPod. Even though my computer stated that the iPods were synced and the songs were downloaded, they did not appear on the iPods. When I called to get help, Apple refused to help me unless I paid for their help! After spending $150 for each iPod, if I have a problem, I want it resolved. I should not have to pay for help. I cannot return the iPods because Walmart won't take them back and Apple will only offer an exact replacement. I am now out $330. I will never buy another Apple product. I'm not sure what to do at this point. I have an 11 year old and a 9 year old who are heartbroken because their big gifts from Santa don't work.

Just purchased (12/05/11) a Nano because you can listen to tunes for 24 hours. Not. The best I can get is 5 hours. Went to Best Buy and it appears I am not alone. Last Apple product I buy.

Among my many Apple products, I purchased a new iPod nano in June, specifically for running. As among other fitness tools, it had a built-in pedometer and options for synching to fitness tracking site. Additionally, I purchased a moisture barrier arm-band holder as this seemed the most practical and effective as a runner. The unit stopped holding a charge after a few months; typically less than 1 hour. Finally, it stopped functioning altogether and could not be "restored" when linked to my Mac.
I brought the unit to Apple store, and as soon as I explained the symptom, the store representative advised me that he was going to demonstrate that the unit was exposed to moisture by illuminating a specific area with a pen light. However, he advised me of this before he inspected the unit, hence it seems that he was familiar with this complaint and was scripted on how to handle it. While delighted, he offered to replace the unit as a "one-time only show of goodwill since it was a relatively new unit. It seems that these folks are aware of this particular dysfunction and have been pre-authorized to do so. I don't want to feel like I am getting a favor or special treatment. I just want what's fair. Truth be told, if I hadn't been afforded this "favor", I'm confident that my legitimate and substantiated protests would have netted out the same result.
As I have seen other similar reviews online, it seems that there is in fact a moisture issue with this unit. Athletic activity is going to produce moisture. If precautions are taken such as the moisture guard band that I wear and if I only run outdoors, which obviously is extremely well-ventilated (and on dry days), there should not be any issues on a unit that is seemingly designed or, at least, targeted to athletes (The representative ultimately suggested I enclose the unit in a plastic bag when in use. Should that be an Apple endorsed plastic bag?). Why not just recall the unit and address the dysfunction rather than scripting service folks to offer "one-time only" favors? Good for Apple for doing the right thing on the replacement, and kudos to their well-trained, professional, and courteous support staff, but how about practicing a little intellectual honesty and not insult my intelligence?

My daughter received an IPOD Nano 5G as a gift. It was bought in California. After a couple of months it was impossible to hear through one earphone. We changed the earphones and the problem continued. Last week on October 6 it was sent to Mexico City, where my sister lives, to make valid the guarantee. After one day people from the store told us that it was not possible to repair and we needed the original ticket for the guarantee. We explained them that it was a gift but they didn't care.
I phoned to the support line in USA and they sent me an email with Mexican authorized centers explaining that not all of them asked for the ticket. One of them accepted to receive it. But as soon as my sister arrived she was told that she needed the ticket. On October 11, 2010 the guarantee expires. I lost money, not got the service because someone lied. At the end Mac is responsible for giving authorizing centers in which people is not informed and just decides to say whatever, or because their support line isn't ready to answer questions honestly.

I received an iPod nano as a gift approximately 1 year ago. I have since lost functionality of a laptop and realized that I cannot add more songs to my laptop without deleting the ones I have or my playlists or any other settings. Additionally, it just runs out of battery when I'm not even using it! I feel like the other mp3 players are cheaper and have better options!

I have a six-month old iPod Nano 5th generation that is defective. The ear phones and volume are defective. The internal speaker keeps playing when ear phones are plugged-in. Apple says there is liquid damage. *** They know that there is a problem with this product and will not stand behind it. Vendors, however, like Target, Wal-Mart, etc. are not so put off by Apple's neglect. Write to the company where the Nano was purchased. Have them put pressure on Apple before other customers walk away from their stores. I liked the Nano and its features and was almost ready to switch from PC to Mac. Not now.

I have two Apple Nano and both of them, the screen stopped working. There was no damage and I can still use it, but I have no control. I think Apple should replace them or give us at least 80 bucks credit for them. I can't really use it because I can't see my choices.

I purchased an iPod Nano (in brand new condition) less than a year ago. On 11/15/2009, I experienced a problem with the product wherein my iPod Nano screen would not illuminate properly and I had to contact customer support to resolve the issue. At that time, I was told that if I continued to have issues, Apple could elect to replace my iPod Nano with another of comparable value.
Tonight (6/3/2010), I experienced another problem wherein iTunes was not able to recognize my iPod device. When I attempted to contact Apple in order to request customer service, I was informed that I would have to pay $29 in order to have them contact me to try and resolve the issue. Considering that I rarely plug my iPod into my computer/iTunes account (I have only done this 4 or 5 times since my complaint in November), I am deeply disappointed that my iPod Nano and iTunes have required me to contact customer support so frequently, especially considering that it is less than a year old and (when compared to some other mp3 brands of similar capacity and size) was not cheap.

I bought a iPod Nano 5th generation in December 2009 just for running. The product is 5 months old. One month ago after a quick run, the device control was frozen. I waited and it came back to normal the next day. Recently, the radio stop playing while I was running for about 5 min. The screen is locked since then. I brought to a Apple store who told me that the indicator was red and there was a liquid damage, therefore they cannot honored the warranty and have to pay $110 to get it repaired. I don't understand since the product has never been in contact with liquid. I never ran under the rain and I use a Blekin bra, made specifically for Apple Nano. This is not fair from this fabricant and no more Apple product for me. The device cost me $212. Apple screw me. No more Apple for me.

My iPod Nano 16GB only 5 months old is locked up and doesn't work. After working with Apple techs on the phone, they said to send it in for repair/replacement since under warranty only to find out they denied the repair/replacement citing the Liquid Contact Indicator in the earpiece has tripped so not covered. I explained it has not been in liquid on it or immersed. Look on web and see numerous cased of this LCI tripping falsely. Also the Class Action lawsuit regarding iPhone LCI case. This is also occurring in iPhones, iPod, iPod Nano, Shuffle, and laptops. Apple using this for Liquid Larceny. Humidity, sweat, air conditioning and more can trip the indicator and Apple will see color turned and flatly deny repair stating the LCI indicator. Cost of iPod Nano at $175. Waste of money. Apple does not stand by their product and I know for a fact that my Nano did not come in contact with liquid.

I got the iPod Nano as a gift. It has cost me money since. The other day it just went blank for no reason. It is less than 6 months old and that is ridiculous. If your product is that cheaply made, then it should not cost so much.

I purchased a 4th generation iPod Nano, only to have it continuously hacked into while attempting to enjoy music. And now, the screen appears white. Yet, if you blindly navigate through the disappearing menu, you can select music. This product is another example of Big Brother hardware and is a complete disregard to consumer privacy. They need to disclose that their products have these problems and allow refunds to disgruntled customers. This also extends to their Apple iPhone but I no longer own it for the same reasons. I wasted 150 dollars. Neil Diamond is laughing at me.

The iPod nano was not working properly. The receptor for the ear buds was always loose and always said no signal from day one even though the radio would play just fine--though at times, the radio would just cut off for no apparent reason. The back light was flashing on and off, continuously discharging the battery. It had been well cared for with light to occasional use in carrying case for bike rides and occasional trips to the gym.
The customer service was pleasant until I got the message that there was accidental damage or abuse found and the unit was to be returned without repair. I called in and was forwarded to a representative who proceeded to inform me that I could purchase a $99 out of service repair. This unit was never exposed to fluids of any kind. The threshold for the moisture indicator must be minuscule as a heavy breath. This was a bogus rejection and I contend that the unit never worked properly from purchase. These units are too fragile for use and are too expensive to be considered disposable by the average consumer. When I asked about the ratio of moisture indicator rejections to date, I was told that information was confidential. The iPod nano is a rip off and Apple will not repair it.

I bought our 14 yr. old son this product. It worked for awhile. Now it won't work at all. This is the only thing he wanted for Christmas. To say I am ** is mild. I don't know about this Company but I most certainly do not have money to waste. It is a rip off. You or they can rest assured I will never purchase Apple ever again and I will be letting people know you do not stand behind your products. You should be ashamed of yourselves and the company. How can you rip the public off. After all, if it weren't for the public, you would not have a business. It's just another company putting the ** to the public. I hop you go out of business. You deserve it for what you are doing. The iPod nano won't come on at all. It worked fine and one day nothing. It was not damaged or wet so don't even go there. You just do not want to stand behind the product.

My wife bought me an Ipod Nano mp3 player for Christmas, 2009. She also bought an extended warranty service contract. After a couple of weeks, the device malfunctioned. I sent the product in for repair or replacement.
Here is the response: "Your Ipod Nano (5th Generation) has been inspected by Apple technicians, who have determined that it has been subjected to accidental damage or misuse, which is not covered by the warranty or an Apple service contract. Therefore your product is being returned to you without any repairs done. You should expect to receive it within two business days along with a letter that gives details of this assessment."
I took very good care of this device. I contend that this unit is defective and that no accident or misuse occurred.

Bought a new 5th generation ipod nano, and only the second time i used it, the click wheel and audio failed. Apple claims the "liquid indicator" shows I got it wet. I DID NOT. Went walking on a dry day, and held it in my hand...I guess humidity got to it! I've had a 2nd generation ipod for years with no problems at all. Obviously, you can't take the thing outside. Anyhow, Apple won't perform warranty service, and of course if you read the warranty, its really no warranty at all...they even try to disclaim all implied warranties to the extent they can.

Unfortunately you cannot run or exercise with the ipod nano product. Perspiration will activate the liquid sensor. If you have any thing go wrong with the nano it will not be covered under warranty no matter what the problem. They will offer a replacement product at a reduced cost of $99. Throwing good money after bad. Bad business.

Apple refused to fix my less than 5 month old Ipod Nano, claiming it was misused or accidentally damaged. I did absolutely nothing to this Ipod and the light in it just quit working. In my talk with a rep. I told him it was had been over 105 in Ojai, and he said there could have been condensation when it came inside to a lower temp. I looked on the warranty and there is nothing about keeping it out of the heat or from going from one temp. to another.

So I get a brand new apple ipod touch. About 2 days after I had BARELY used it it began to display an all white screen. Apparently this is a common problem and it is USUALLY easy to fix by resetting/restoring but alas... Nothing works, I spend the 4.95 to upgrade the software because the site said that sometimes fixes problems but that didn't work either. I decide to take my touch to a local apple store about 15 minutes away. It began to go downhill from here.
I go in with my itouch and they refer me to the "genius bar". All of the appointments are booked up for the entire day (about 10hrs worth). I knew Apple lost its reliability when 4 geniuses are at the genius bar and they were all booked for the rest of the day. I explain that the product is brand new and I don't understand why I need an appointment to fix a product that was broken to start with. They say there is nothing they can do since I bought it online from the apple site etc.
So I go to the website and I can barely make sense of the thing. Everytime I try to click on a customer service link it redirects me to another page, and then back to that same page. I even called them but was put on hold forever. I work part time and am a full time student, so I don't have a lot of time to make an appointment for a product that was faulty from day one. I will never ever again buy an apple product. This company used to have such a positive image but now it is awful. It has become extremely beauraratic and it is almost as bad as going to the Department of Motor Vehicles. I am thoroughly disappointed.

I got my daughter an apple ipod chromatic nano 8GB for christmas of 2008. It worked fine until one night, she was playing solitaire on it, got up for a minute, and when she came back, she couldn't use scroll wheel. It has never been damaged or gotten wet. When Apple was spoken with, they claimed it must have gotten wet. Never happened. I don't know what to do now, because they wont fix it. This is not right. It is new.

I bought an ipod nano 4th generation in May. It always seemed touchy and it was not as user friendly as my old one. I went running the other day and it started to rain lightly. I put the ipod in my shorts to keep it dry. It never worked again. The backlight is dead and the battery won't stay charged. When I called in for help I talked to a great guy who got me all set up with a box to send it back. I just got an email saying that "it has been subjected to accidental damage or misuse, which is not covered by the warranty or an Apple service contract. Therefore your product is being returned to you unrepaired. You should expect to receive it within two business days along with a letter that gives details of this assessment.". What a load of junk. After reading everyone's complaints on here I am not at all surprised. They just don't want to hold up the warranty. What a piece of crap that can't handle a little moisture in the air. Their website is awful and you can't even talk to them without an appointment. That is because they know everyone will be callin to complain all the time.

Bought my son a Nano 4th generation for Christmas. In March he was caught in the rain, the screen turned white. Called Apple, they sent a box to return the product. Two days later they returned the Nano unrepaired. When I phoned, the told me that it had gotten wet and the warranty was void (the moisture sensor did not turn red!)
They also told me that an I Pod was not intended to be taken outside! I continued to call every month, after five months I was blessed with Ryan H. He is the only Product Specialist, that I have spoken to, that cares. After 90 minutes on the phone, they agreed to repair the Nano.

My husband purchased an Ipod nano for me as a Christmas gift in December of 2007. I opened it for the first time in July of this year and my daughter attempted to install and charge it. The device would not hold a charge. I visited an Apple store in the Glendale Galleria and was told that it was a problem with the "Shelf Life" of the battery. I never even used the device! I asked them to then replace the battery and was told that Apple doesn't replace the battery but I could go online and have an outside vendor do it.

I bought an 8G Ipod nano 4th gen. in May 2009. In July, it stopped working... all I could get on the screen was the Apple logo. I tried all the resets and called the repair centre. They send FedEx to pick it up and had it returned to Apple free of charge as it was within the first 3 months. A few days later, I looked at the website to find out the status and it said there was evidence of abuse. I sent a rather blunt email back and the reply said that the docking station was corroded and there were dents on the corners, therefore the warranty was void.
I am a 54 year old professional who listens during my commute to work. The Ipod lives in its leather case except when being charged, so if there is water damage it came from the atmosphere. I believe Apple just looks for reasons to refuse to repair or replace Ipods. This one was new and simply quit while I was listening. Doesn't sound like it would be caused by "dents" or "water damage" to me. Unfortunately, while this Ipod was away for service I bought another one (my very last one!) My first Ipod was the Nano first generation which lasted for several years with the same treatment as this last one. It never quit ... it was stolen. I believe the Apple product has gone down in quality and the consumer is paying for their shortcomings.

I got a iPod Nano 8 gb for Christmas from my wife. Two weeks ago, it froze up and the screen got dark. Restoring did not help. I brought it down to Apple store today, and their genius told me I had water damage and the warranty was void. This ** has never been near water. She offered a replacement swap for $79. I spoke to location manager in charge and got nowhere. I asked why would I want another one of these and her reply was that, "It's up to you." I looked online, found this site and was overwhelmed at how many people have had the same problem. Apple needs to address this issue. It is pure ** and I will never buy a Mac product again, and will steer my family away from them as well.

I have an iPod Nano 3rd generation. I brought it about a year and a half ago but I've only used it for about 11 months. My first problem was way back in September of 2008. I was walking and then out of nowhere, my iPod shut off by itself. When I asked for advice, my mom said that maybe the battery died but my battery was only half used at the time. I couldn't get it to work until I plugged it into iTunes.
So 5 months go by and then my iPod does it again. So I fix it the same way as before. My next problem was that not only did it shut off by itself but now whenever I try to plug in my iPod to any computer, it won't work. And I don't just mean a computer with iTunes either, I mean the computer won't recognize my iPod at all and it won't charge my iPod. The only way for me to charge my iPod is to put it on my mom's charger. That's not even it either.
My sister has an iPod 2nd Generation. Her iPod has not had any problems so far. The funny thing is that we both could use the same cord to plug in our iPods and mine still won't work. I was also down in Texas and once again, my iPod shuts off and then seconds later, my iPod restored itself. This is all just a bunch of crap. I am so mad at Apple. It took me three months to save for that iPod that I bought brand new at the Wal-Mart. It costs me about $250 to by it brand new just about a month or two after it was released. I am not buying any more iPods.

My brother both me an ipod a couple of months ago. I never opened it till 2 Weeks ago before leaving for a trip. I used my ipod 3 times and there is for sure a problem with the manifacturing. It no longer works. I am Very unhappy. I dont know why [they] would sell a product that will not work. I am still on vacation for 3 month without my music!

I purchased an ipod nano 4gig (red) on 26 March 2009 to use with my nike +. On 2 April 2009 the ipod menu pad stopped responding it still sync runs but no response when pressing play, etc. I took it back to look and listen, but due to their 7 day exchange, and my ipod breaking a day later I know have to wait 3 weeks for the ipod to be send in etc. I think this is ridiculous, I bought the ipod to track my running.

Bought a Ipod Nano for my daughter for Christmas (2008) and 2 month later the click wheel is inop which makes the ipod useless. Called there customer service and was told to send it in and they will replace it. Sent it in and three days later I get an email saying they were sending it back nfixed due to misuse. Received the Ipod Nano and reason was the moisture indictor showed it got wet and that voided the warranty no matter what was wrong with the Ipod. Ipod has never been wet nor is the problem related to the indicator. Ipod was working the night before perfect and failed to work the next morning.
Called customer service again and was basically told oh well your one year warranty is nall and void because of the indicator. They then offered to sell me a refurbished one for $129 plus tax and shipping. Let see I can get someone else turn-in (repaired) nano at a higher price than I paid for my brand new non functioning Ipod Nano ($150). Scam and a half going on here!
There tech told me they tested the moisture indicator and they had to be in a bucket of water for a while before they ever indicated moisture. Funny that my daughter indicated moisture without even getting wet! I want some satisfaction for a two month old Ipod Nano that's suppose to have a one year warranty. Defect: Click wheel inop, worked up untill she went to bed and failed to work the next morning.
Apple voids warranty because they claim it got wet (not wet in my daughter bedroom). Proof Ipod Nano is defective: Scan the internet for click wheel being inop and problems with moisture indicator. Apple even claim there sensitive and shouldn't be taken outside. That is a joke an a half. James and Apple refuses to repair. They simply claim it has gotten wet! Biggest bunch of BS in the world! My daughter has only used it a total of 20 times since she received it and it has never been wet.

December 05,08 purchased I-Pod Nano 8gig 4th generation from Apple.com as a Christmas gift for my son. He was walking home from school March 18, 09 and was caught in the rain, he had his I-Pod in his shirt pocket. The screen turned white ( the music still plays but you cannot navigate the menus ) Called apple, they insisted that I purchase Apple Cares Package ( $39.99 +tax ) before I could speak to the tech dept. Tech told me to check inside of the earphone jack for red color, the jack was/is white. They sent a postage paid box, the I-Pod was returned three days later, unrepaired. I called again, was told it was liquid damage, not covered by warranty. I explained that he was caught in the rain, they said that an I-Pod was delicate electronic equipment and should not be taken outside. I insisted on speaking to a supervisor, he offered me an E-Coupon for $30.00 off. Why would I purchase another I-Pod?

New Ipod Nano does not charge with accessories I bought for my previous Nano. I have now been informed that I need to buy new accessories to be able to charge my Ipod. I find this totally unacceptable. I should have the option to be able to charge my Ipod or not when playing in my Ipod Hi-Fi, or car accessory. To make matters worse, I had a special song on my Ipod (which I had fully charged) which I was going to dedicate to my father at his funeral today, only to discover that my Ipod had stopped working altogether. I am totally disappointed in my new spec Nano!!!!
Not working at all!!

My son's iPod Nano stopped working 1 year and a week after I purchased it, meaning that the warranty expired. I looked at Apple's customer support website and couldn't even find a phone number, so I had to use their email system and was ultimately instructed to mail in the iPod to some address I was given on the site. I also had to give them my credit card number in advance so the iPod could be repaired (or so they could send me a refurbished one).
They have had my son's iPod for over a month. Whenever I check the status on-line it indicates replacement product pending. After 35 days of no information, I finally try to find a phone number to call to no avail and then sent an email regarding a status, only to have some person named Cameron telling me I need to send my iPod in first before they can replace it. They tell me this, despite the fact that their website indicates that they received my iPod on 1/12/09.
Who are these people and why is Apple's customer service so bad? I know its only $150 iPod and not a $3000 Mac, but my son loved it and I feel like I deserve the same level of service as other Apple customers. I was shocked to read on other sites that Apple is ranked very high for customer service. Based on my experience, I would say that their customer service is non-existent.

We bought an iPod Nano 4th Generation for my oldest son on his birthday. Two months after purchasing it, it stopped working. We were in the van driving to his hockey game at the time. He had been listening to it for about 15 minutes before it just stopped. I opened an incident ticket online with Apple and they sent me a Fedex package to pack the device in and send it to a local repair shop. The device was returned a week later with an AppleCare Service report that said, A diagnostic evaluation has determined the iPod has internal damage related to a liquid spill or contamination. I'll repeat, he was listening to it for 15 minutes before it just stopped! It's 2 months old!!
I spent $150 all in and between my wife and I have spent about $60 in downloaded music. You try to do the right thing by teaching your kids not to pirate music or stealing from the music industry but how do you justify them selling a faulty product and not standing behind it? I can tell you I'm seriously considering buying a $10 dollar mp3 player and downloading my music from a file sharing service. I can't understand their thinking here? I'll never buy music from their online store again. Would it have cost so much to replace a 2 month old nano?

I was gifted a iPod Nano 4th generation 8 gb (Nano). Within 3 months of receiving this Nano the lock/unlock feature stopped working. Apple replaced the item with another new Nano. Within three days that Nano started randomly restarting itself. That replacement was replaced and now the second replacement is turning on when you click the scroll wheel and the Nano is in the locked position. The only thing Apple can do for me is to continue to replace the Nano in the hopes that one will work.

My 1 yeaqr old NANO has stopped working for no reason it will no longer turn on

I bought a ipod nano 4gb and i charged it and then turned it on and the backlight on the lipod does not work all the time. it will occasionally turn on but not all the time and then i went to the store to swap ipods and they said that i carnt swap because apple does not allow it ... well i think thats [not right]. i want a new ipod because its not fair that i bought something and it didnt work and now im stuck with it

I got an ipod nano 2 years ago it is not working at all already. I contacted the apple hotline they told me there is nothing they can do. I need to buy a new one. they do not repair or replace any parts for any cost at all. I am upset. I got a $150.00 item good for a few years and that is it. I dont think that is right can you help me out with this issue thank you
It never turned on or off properly. I thought it was the cover I put on it but when I took it off it still did not work. A few songs and it dies it never charged correctly

The new apple Ipod Nano Chromatic sucks big time. Just 2 months I bought and now its not even working. Even earphones were jarring earlier. Its a total waste of money.

My family has purchased three Ipod Nanos as well as all the accesssories to go along with them. The first Ipod Nano we purchased for $200 quit working a year and a half later. We received 20 percent off and free warranty, but I still had to purchase a new one. I spent another $120.00. The second Ipod Nano we purchased for $150 worked for a year and a half and quit working -- the mother board was shot. We were offered only 10 percent off. For the most part, these Nanos are docked on our Ipod alarm clocks, so they aren't abused in any fashion. JUST BE WARNED THAT IF YOU PURCHASE ONE, YOU'LL ONLY GET A YEAR AND A HALF USE OUT OF IT -- JUST SIX MONTHS OUT OF WARRANTY!

I purchased a BRAND NEW Ipod 3rd Generation nano video less than 3 months ago from Circuit City in Salt Lake City, Utah. From the day I purchased it, this has not worked correctly. The nano will not hold a charge, it locks up, freezes, the repeat does not work, and the volume is immovable, this ipod is for all purposes unusable. I contacted customer service and they refused to replace it with a new ipod. Since this is only used when I travel - it has been used less than 10 times.
This ipod is clearly a LEMON, a DEFECTIVE product, and Apple's customer service refuses to replace it with a new one. I spoke to William who transferred me to his supervisor Ryanne (who refused to give her employee number or last name). The only thing they could offer me is to replace my NEW, DEFECTIVE IPOD with a refurbished, used ipod. I told her that having a product that someone else has returned because they were having problems with it is not what I am looking for.
If I am having this many problems with my NEW ipod this soon after purchasing it retail, I can only imagine the problems that I would have with one that has already been returned as defective by another customer. I feel that Apple's customer service is gravely lacking, and they refuse to stand behind their product in any reasonable way. I am requesting that Apple do the right thing, and replace my NEW DEFECTIVE ipod with a NEW IPOD, I am willing to wait until it is readily available as Ryanne told me I would have to do according to the warranty.
I did not purchase one of their cheaper refurbished models I purchased a BRAND NEW IPOD, which was a lemon. I am out the $200.00 thatI spent on this NEW DEFECTIVE PRODUCT.

My iPod nano exploded.

I called because my nano screen cracked. I paid 189 and they told me it will be 130 plus tax to fix it

I am so, SO DISAPPOINTED in my new nano! I figured it out and between buying for myself, my sons, 2 friends and 2 employees I have purchased THIRTEEN Ipods over the last 3 years. I even bougt a car--a Scion--because it was Ipod ready and when I traded that in and bought a new car the first thing I did was pay for a new stereo with Ipod connection so I could listen while driving.
Driving time is the main use of my Ipod so imagine my SHOCK and HORROR when this new nano DID NOT FIT THE CONNECTION. WHERE was the warning of this? Certainly not on the pkg or advertising. If I hadn't made the mistake of having this nano engraved I would return it immediately. Right now it is useless to me. Apple has lost a very good customer.

I purchased an iPOD Nano and used it for two weeks. I took it outside keeping it inside an iPOD cover with the whole thing inside a coat pocket. It was raining and the iPOD must have gotten wet. Apple took it back and claimed that they knew I got it wet without evening opening the unit.
Apple refused to repair or replace it. The iPOD Nano is so fragile that you cannot even take it out in the weather. If the cover that they sell does not protect it, what good is it if you can't take it outdoors? You can't run, bike or walk with it for fear humidity or perspiration might ruin it.
Lost the full price of the iPOD Nano ($190)

I purchased an iPod NANO 3rd GEN 8MB in November2007, 10 months later I notice vertical and horizontal pixels across the screen and a black splotch in the middle. I called Applecare service the technician had me try a reset and restore. This did not clear up the issue that I was having with the screen. The technician then wrote up a repair ticket to send the iPOD in for repair, they also talked me into buying an extended Applecare Protection Plan since my 1 year warranty is almost up.
I sent my iPOD in on Friday Sept 5th it was returned today Sept 10th un-repaired or replaced. It was returned with a note that stated A diagnostic evaluation has determine that the iPOD has internal damage related to contamination and is not covered. My iPOD is always kept in a protective cover and could not have become contaminated from any external object. Also there is no external damage to the iPod . I called Apples today and requested a refund for the extended protection plan that I was sold over the phone.
$187 dollar wasted for the iPOD.

I complained that my IPOD nano is not charging. He told me that somehow the IPOd got wet/or some moisture that messed up the battery. The IPOD was never got wet, the only contact of some moisture from running but I use an arm band (purchased from apple store also).
Apple store would not replace the battery nor replace the ipod nano eventhough my ipod is still under warranty.

i tried syncing up my ipod nano 3rd gen. and when it plays some songs it either skips them or stops in the middle

When I experience a problem, I cannot get relevant help. I am directed to web sites with standardized help responses to questions that NO ONE really has and are NOT relevant to my problem. I cannot make my iPod nano behave as it should - I have to go through several reset steps to make it work after synching. When in iTunes, I cannot download or save items as in any other program - I am told there is a problem and left with the idea that it is MY fault when the software will simply not do what a normal person would expect!
When I try to discuss with a genius I am ade to feel an idiot because I do not do things the way Apple believes they should be done! The condescension makes me feel very bad about giving them $2000 for this piece of equipment.
I cannot say this has cost me x dollars. However, I CAN say this will cost Apple many dollars because I will NOT buy any more of their products. I will also tell all of my friends, acquaintances, and business associates that the support from Apple is NON-existent. The hardware IS pretty, the software MAY be cool, but APPLE does NOT about its users. When it comes to support - making things work - Apple is absent and NOT worth the premium they charge. I use he hardware ONLY because I must make sure my solutions are platform independent. If that was NOT an issue - I would NOT own a single piece of MAC hardware.

So a little over a year ago I bought an iPod Nano because it had the 8GB's that I was looking for. The very first problem right out of the gate, every single one of my songs would not work on the Nano. I had to Re-Rip them from CD's and buy them. So that was hundreds of songs made useless within minutes. Secondly, I noticed that I could not just Drag-and-Drop files using My Computer. I was FORCED to use the iTunes software. The bug ridden, giant in size, horrible iTunes software. So if I wanted to add a song from a friends house, I had to download the software and install in on that computer. And with the iTunes software, it has all kinds of backgrounds programs that just sit there using of resources and I have to use MSCONFIG to stop them from loading.
After using the Nano for a while I have noticed the battery life is getting worse and worse. Which looking through the forums, is a very common problem with iPod's. So I looked into buying a replacement battery. Much to my horror, but not to my surprise, changing the battery is a nightmare! See your company doesn't use a standard hook and plug system like many other players out there. You solider the connectors to the board. And you use the smallest wires possible, making it next to impossible for the average person to change a battery on their own. I did read that Apple was sued for this practice, but I guess I bought my Nano too late. What makes the battery life worse is that the Nano doesn't have an On/Off switch! You hold a button and the screen goes blank, but the player is still on and is still using battery power. Out of every electronic device ever created, how can Apple forget to add a simple On/Off switch? Why? Because they want the battery to burn out and for you to run out and drop another $200, $300, $400, ect on a new player!
Apple also knows once you waste a few hundred dollars buying iTunes music, THAT CAN NOT BE PLAYED ON ANY OTHER PLAYER WITHOUT BEING MODIFIED, that you are now their slave for life! On top of all of this my iPod's screen won't even turn off. I have to reset it to unlock it. And I can't stop a song from playing, because once I pause a file, I can only Play/Fast-Forward/Rewind it. The STOP option is gone. Every month brings a new set of problems. I have never had as many problems with anything else, like I have with this stupid player. So now that my iPod is on deaths-door, I am writing this to inform Apple that I am 100% done buying iPods. I wasted over $200! Over a year of stress. And I now have a paperweight.

I received an ipod nano from my wife for my birthday. No sooner did I plug it into my computer's USB port it sent all the volumns of music I had painstakingly stored over a period of years in i-tunes for my old ipod shuffle in i-tunes to never never land ( after hours and many tries I found some of my music jumbled in non discript files that, as of yet I cannot axcess using my present nano software). Devistated, I cannot axcess my music.
I have spent at least 5 hours in the last 12 hours trying to recover my digital music collection. I have most of it on purchased CD'S, but certain rare long sought after selections that in order to find I had searched over a period of years on various on line music sites before finding. Of course after wiping out for ready use everything I had Apple is pushing its' i-tunes online music store in my face on the screen as I view my empty files.

i purchased an ipod nano from this store, February, 2008, and 4 months later, it malfunctioned, and i brought it back to the same store with the reciept and case it came in. The manager told me he couldnt give me my money back or an exchange. The ipod cost was $124.00. He told me to call the tech support line, which i did. The man i was speaking to asked me for the serial number on the ipod and i gave it to him. And he asked for the serial number on the case and they were two totally different serial numbers.
I was shocked becasue i had purchased this ipod new from the bargain shop and the serial number was not the same. The tech support person was able to help me get the ipod working again. This is a good thing because if not, i would have had a 124 dollar ipod broken and no money back for it. He said he couldnt do anything becasue the serial number wasnt the same.

the game that come with the ipod have delected them selves and i konw for a fact that it was not me becasue i was wonting to play them at the time and it said they were un avaliable and i dont no how you get them back

I bought an iPod Nano. I like to rewind songs to memorize lyrics. When I did so the last time, the screen froze, the light stayed on until the battery died.
I have TWO protection plans in place. the tech wrote down in a corresponding email that the unit was 'frozen at the Apple logo'. That's not what I told him. I sent it in for repair and got it back with the We're sorry, but we cannot recreate the problem. It's clearly a defective unit, but Apple now follows the lead of many other companies when dealing with technical and production issues: They ignore them because you have no power and they already have your money.
I now have a dysfunctional iPod. I also have two protection plans that don't do me any good. I paid another 42 dollars when sending the unit in because they said if I bought a protection plan I would not have to pay for shipping.
I now use my Sony minidisc player because IT WORKS.

My cousin and I recently purchased (on one card) a computer, software, printer and ipod nano for my cousin spending over 2k in the store only to come home and find out that the nano does not run on her 3 year old computer. She is using mine to upload the itunes but when I am gone in a few weeks she will be unable to further use her ipod. I called the store and spoke to the rep who refused to get a supervisor for me, and i spoke to a tech on the 800 number who told me that I would be unble to upgrade the computer, and that there was nothing I could do short of buying another computer.
I think this is outrageous and terrible support for a company who prides itself on support. If you purchase an item even if it is several hundred dollars (the nano was 200 dollars!) it should be compatible with mac products or should be given some option for being able to use it. If it is returned opened there is another 20 dollar fee and the hassle of returning it along with the aggravation that one can not buy an ipod if you own an older mac but if you are a pc owner it will work just fine! This is penalizing your own customer base. If this is how you treat your customers I say no thank you! I am returning my computer and will never attemp to buy an apple again!
I wasted tons of time on useless phone calls and was never helped and feel that the product that apple is offering the new ipod is a scam to get people to buy new computers since they can't listen to thier music anymore if they broke/lost/need another ipod. This is not acceptable

Like everyone else's story, this very expensive electronic was carefully protected in its case and lovingly handled. A small black spot appeared on the inside of the screen, just annoying at first, but has grown to cover a good third, making it almost impossible to read anything or make selections. Out of warranty by a few months, I was hopeful that our extended warranty bought from Walmart would get if fixed and return it to usability. However, I hold out little hope since the service person on the phone basically told me I can send it in for them to look at, but they won't cover physical damage of the screen. I wasn't too concerned by this on the phone, since it is pristine except for the INSIDE of the screen.
But now that I've read the lame excuses used by Apple themselves to void warranties, I'm sure that line delivered to me by a secondary company really means Thanks for throwing your money away because we aren't covering it either. Very disappointed in Apple, particularly now that I'm reading all of the known problems with the Nano screen and their refusal to take responsibility for rushing a defective product to market. We will never bother with Apple products in the future.

Purchased an iPod Nano for my daughter - it will not turn off unless it is reset EVERY TIME! his is more than I should have to ask of an 8 year old (frankly it is more than anyone who thinks that Apple stuff just works should have to do.) Repeated visits to the Apple store have only resulted in being told that I have to follow the 3R's - what happened to just works? After a year my daughter has given up trying to use it and is no using a cheap mp3 player that just works!
Extremely frustrating. While there is no physical or emotional damage - I find it hard to accept that I paid so much money. Perhaps the most egrigious part of it is that the section of the Apple support forum that dealt with this issue was taken down (it was many pages of complaints with NO response or resolution from Apple beyond telling us to reset our devices.) NEVER has there been an acknowledgement or solution offered from Apple. At least other companies have the decency to admit a problem even if they don't fix it. Not Apple - Yes, I sound bitter - because I am - this sort of elitist attitude hurts honest business people by comparison.

My Ipod nano just stopped working after about 10 times that I used it. I paid alot of money for this product $250.00. Best Buy will not return it. Apple wants to charge me to fix it at costly repairs.

Steve Jobs where is your Integrity? I bought an Ipod Nano 8 gb 2nd generation little over a year ago. Serial No. 5u6457javqt. It does not work properly. Specifically the screen does not come on but it plays music. If I wanted a IPOD shuffle I would have paid $49.00 I PAID $250.00 plus tax. The screen is brand new. The Ipod is 1 year old. i did not abuse it and it has a protective case. I am unsatisfied and I want my Ipod fixed.

I have an IPod Nano. 10 months from the date of receipt the IPod went dead. Apple refuses to honor their warranty, with excuses like they "can't read my documentation" or that "it is inadequate", but they don't say which of the two is the reason.
The PDF file I sent them with all transaction information is completely readable; they just need to use the Zoom function in Adobe reader. Apple Company is apparently not trained with Adobe software. Apple does any possible bureaucratic foot dragging to avoid their legal obligations.

I purchased an ipod nano for a Christmas gift this past December. 2 months later the light to the nano dimmed. We brought it to an apple store in Peabody Massachusetts and were told it had water damage!! Than we were told it would cost $129.00 to repair (after paying almost $200 dollars to purchase brand new from the apple website). I was beside myself and denied the repair as I did not know how it happened to have water damage without ever encountering water other than being used during a our normal snowy/rainy season and refused to pay almost the same price I bought it for just 2 months ago. When I expressed my disappointment and disgust at work about my dissatisfactory experience with the apple product, a co-worker who had also bought an ipod nano for her daughter that same Christmas thru the same company website I did, told me that her daughter dropped her ipod nano into a puddle of water, then brought it to an apple store and they replaced her nano with a brand new one with no questions asked!! She was only told that the 1 year general warranty covered 1 free replacement for the year and anything else would be charged accordingly.
I was and still am beside myself, we compared sales receipts and coverage and they are exactly the same. We both paid almost $200 dollars for this so called wonderful product, yet she gets compensated for repair when the fault was upon her and I am not? Am I being discriminated against? How am I different? You cannot do for one and not another! I have never been impressed with apple products but against my better judgment, because of the rave? reviews I gave Apple a chance, I purchased the ipod nano only to have it confirm my previous notion of failure and poor customer satisfaction.
What a waste of my hard earned money, and familiar display of their poor customer service and product reliability. All the more reason I will never ever buy an apple product again and be sure to express to all those I encounter and all those I work with my extreme customer dissatisfaction. It amazes me that my company that is all about 100% customer satisfaction and follows thru on their word would ever consider being a partner with apple to offer discounts to its own employees with such a negligent customer service company.

The Nano Ipod has a screen lock, but this is useless because when someone hooks it up to a computer (usually to charge it or add more songs) and ejects the ipod, the screen lock falters, and suddenly everyone has full access to it. Why bother to create such a faulty screen lock? Everyone these days has an ipod, so everyone also has the right cords to connect it to a computer. That means everyone can defeat the screen lock!

Purchased 8GB Ipod Nano Green as a Christmas '07 present for my son. Took out the 2-year replacement policy for additional $29.99. Also got a nice case for it. It is now 2/19/08. The screen does not come on; it is just white and the wheel makes a clicking sound. Went to return it at Best Buy where I purchased, and they tell me it is physically damaged. It seems this is the new term to get Apple off the hook. The Nano looks mint. Then tried to bring it back to the Apple Store. Same thing physically damaged. I am LIVID as this is a $200 item. It should not be considered disposable. Help me please!
There is a SPECK at the top of the Nano. It seems I too am a Nano abuser.

Have had an Apple IPOD Nano 2nd Generation MP3 player for approx. 1 year. The battery itself is dated 9/26/2006. It went dead recently. I looked into the Apple IPOD battery replacement. For the cost of an IPOD, this is ridiculous. I purchased one of those battery replacements for about $22 off the internet. I Followed instructions to remove the battery, which is quite difficult. I was successful in doing this. This model's battery is attached by three small wires which MUST be soldered. I purchased a small solder iron, another $19 purchase. The three contact points are very small. I have been unsuccessful at getting the solder to stick, even with flux, and have probably destroyed the IPOD at this point. It was an additional cost to replace a battery, and now no IPOD. We also purchased an IPOD for one of our daughters for Xmas this year. I wish we hadn't. That's the last Apple product for me.
Loss of IPOD within approx. one year. Cost is basically prohibitive to renew battery, and the product becomes a throw away if you cannot replace the battery. My personal belief is that Apple is gouging the consumer to reap additional profits by creating a difficult-to-replace IPOD battery, which feasibly only Apple can do. A valid disclaimer should at least be placed on the product, warning consumers of extensive costs of battery replacement.

My iPod Nano will not turn on without being plugged in. It is about a year old and the only way it turns on is by being plugged in. When I unplug it the iPod stops working and everything on the screen like dissolves until its all gone. Then the iPod is off and won't turn on.
I am getting very angry with this.

Apple advertised a free Nano with the purchase of a Mac Book. After 3 months, still no Nano and just a run around. Basically false advertising and breach of contract. Obiviously Apple is a victum of it's own success.

In the past 2 weeks I have purchased 2 brand new 3rd generation Nanos. Each time, I uploaded my music, took it on a run (over 5 miles), shut it off. And a couple hours later, they were both dead. Unless I am running through giant magnets, this nano must have issues. I am so unhappy with apple, but they seem to have monopolized the portable music device category. I figure 3rd time's a charm, so I ordered the refurbished 2nd gen. model from apple.com (am I the idiot here?). Wish me luck because in 2 days it may not turn on again!
Very annoyed!

Apple & Nike Screw-up
Apple Computer prides itself on ease of use -- of which presumably compatability of what they sell is assumed.
Go buy a new Nano at Apple and the Nike + iPod plug-in. No one will tell you they won't work together (i.e. with the new 3rd Generation Nanos). Nothing mentioned on their web site either. (Though a lengthy call to Apple's Bangalore customer service phone operators did confirm that my hours of trying to get it to work were wasted -- as they were incompatible).
But what is truly amazing, is that when I pointed out to the Assistant Store Manager in Emeryville CA the premise why I bought both (I'm an avid runner), in his mind there was nothing amiss -- just a problem with a 3rd party provider (i.e Nike)-- their fault, not Apple's.
He also had no problem with Apple continuing to offer for sale 2 incompatible products in their stores, nor did he seem inclined to alert anyone at Apple.
I had asked to return both, but because I lacked the original packing, no dice. Too bad both items didn't work -- not his problem.
I have personally purchased (or directed company purchases) of nearly $250,000 in Apple products over the years. This was a $235.00 return.
When it comes to Customer Service (and the value concept of a long term customer relationship), Apple has much to learn -- and convey to its store management.
As as for the product Managers of Nano (and the Nike add-on), someone there needs to wake up!

I bought an iPod Nano 4GB less than a month ago. It never properly downloads an entire playlist, freezes up, and shuts off on its own.
I am very disappointed with Apple. Cost for this was $200!!! and it's useless.

I was about to write to Apple to complain about my Ipod Nano thinking it was a one off when to my surprise I have just read the list of complaints all similar to my own and now realise it is a complete waste of time writing to them as they obviously have so little regard for their customer. It is so frustrating. I bought my IPOD Nano in Dublin for 270 in May 2006. Nine months later it froze, I returned it to the shop and was really please because they gave me a new one straight away, however this also froze and when I returned it they said they couldn't do anything because my warrenty had expired.
That is impossible I said because this is only nine months old. Ah yes they said but your warranty is dated to the original. They sold me a defective product and replaced it with another dud and now have the cheek to tell me the warranty has expired. It is disgraceful. I thought robbery was a criminal offence obviously Apple are immune from prosecution. I have never felt so ripped off in all my life.

I bought an ipod nano from Target in February 2007. In May of 2007 it just froze up and would not do anything. I went to the Apple website and looked at the instructions for resetting it. None of them worked. After 30 minutes I finally got it to turn off. It would not turn back on. I plugged it into the charger, my computer, and did the reset options from Apple again. I went to the Apple Store in Salt Lake City in the Gateway Mall where I was told that I was an ipod abuser and that the warranty was null and void by several of the employees there. I went home with an ugly paperweight. I have never abused my ipod.

Purchased ipod nano in July 06 for our son. The screen has a black scratch or blockage underneath the screen and is now expanding and you can't see what is on the screen. They verified that there was no physical damage and stated that they had had several of the same brought back for the same problem. They sent it off and 3 weeks later we are told to pick it up. That said it is not repaired and that its damage was due to abuse of the unit. The thing has been in a case (which was purchased with it) since it was opened up and with the screen off it looks new. Apple should stand behind its products!

I bought an I-pod Nano about 1 year ago and recently the screen stopped working. I usually have it in my glove box as I have an I-pod hook-up straight from my stereo. Sometime I have it in my pocket, but usually it is kept in my car. The outside casing is scratched, and my I-pod responds to touch, but I cannot see anything on the screen. Now, it tends not to work with my stereo until I reset it.

My first generation Nano bent in the front pocket of my jeans at 13 days old. One of the Managers at the 5th Ave. store in Manhattan insinuated that I was lying about how it bent, then decided to do me a favor and exchange my new bent $269.00 for a reconditioned one.

I purchased a red Apple IPOD Nano (2nd generation) for my son for Christmas. He loved the red color, and liked that it also helped others out by making a donation at the same time.
After 3 months of using the IPOD, he wanted to download a song to bring in to school on his IPOD for a project on the Middle Ages. He turned off his IPOD to access the computer to download the song. After downloading, he went to hook up his Nano to the computer and the screen remained black. There was enough battery power on the IPOD the minute before, but nothing would make the IPOD work.
We tried charging it with the computer, the car charger and the house charger. Nothing would work. I brought the IPOD in our local store, and the technician plugged the IPOD into one of their speakers systems, and got the screen to light up and show plenty of charge left. I couldn't believe it. But when he tried to hook it up to the computer, although the screen would now light up, there was no way for the computer to recognize that the IPOD was plugged in.
After waiting for a computer geek to take a look, he said it's a rare problem, but the IPOD needed to be replaced. He replaced the IPOD, and I went home happy.
My son then used this new IPOD for no more than 2 weeks, when he put his IPOD (in a TOUGH case he purchased for about $30 to store the IPOD in FROM DAY #1!!!!!) in his pocket while in the car. When he got home from a short drive with his dad, he took the IPOD out of his pocket, and to his dismay, the screen is all damaged on the inside. NO ABUSE, NO SCRATCHES (protected ALL THE TIME), NO NOTHING .......and NO SCREEN!!!!!
My husband took the IPOD back to the store, and they told him to send it away to get it fixed for $100! This IPOD is 2 weeks old!!!! How could a screen crack ON THE INSIDE THAT EASILY - I saw my son put that IPOD in his pocket when he left.....he was in the car with my husband, sitting in the back seat - NOT fooling around.

i bought an iPod nano for my nine year old daughter for christmas 2006 its now not even 3 months later and it does not work the screen says disk mode ok to disconnect i have tried all advise and problem shooting info i could find on the web.
It has been too long to return it to Walmart where i bought it but i cannot seem to get a hold of anyone at apple to use my supposed 1 year warranty.

I love the 2gb black nano i got early this year, but there are a few things that bother me. One is that they scratch like crazy! Mine only holds like 260 songs, when it is designed to hold 500; and i have no idea if my nano is on the battery recall, but mine doesnt hold charge well.
I feel as if I didn't get my money's worth.

I brought a Apple Ipod Nano 1G in Aug 2006. It is only Oct 2006 and it is no longer working. I tried every steps provided by Apple, but nothing is working.
When I plug the unit into the docking station, it does nothing. It will not turn on. I have not contacted Apple yet, mainly because of the stories I have read about their sorry service.

My 14 year old son saved his money and in January purchased an Ipod nano. He was never allowed to take it to school and the most activity it got was in the car on trips. 2 months ago he became unable to see the screen. After taking it to the Apple store we were told that there was nothing they could do as it must have been dropped. There is no visiable sign of trauma to the unit, and no damage except the fact that the screen is marred on the inside.
The unit is not inexpensive by any means and it should not be disposable, as the sales person implied when he offered us 10% off of a new unit. I am frustrated and my son is upset to think he has to throw away a $200 item that he saved for himself.

I purchased my son an Apple IPOD Nano in December of 2005. My son loved and treasured it.
About a month ago, the scroll wheel stopped working. I accessed the Apple support website and tried everything they said to do, but without the scroll wheel I was not able to do much. I was, however, able to navigate the CRAZY attempt of Apple to hide the warranty return area.
I finally got them to send me a DHL box and packing instructions for warranty repair (plus $35 for handling). I HAND DELIVERED the box to a DHL facility for shipping.Today I received the IPOD back! WOW! That was fast! But much to my dismay, I open the box to find the copy of a "Dear Apple Customer: We regret we were unable..." but none of the conditions boxes were checked. So I called and was told that when the technicians received the package, they saw there were dents in the Ipod, thus reflecting obvious abuse. WHAT?! - there are no dents in it.
The CSR tells me there is nothing she can do because of the documentation. I ask her for her supervisor and she says she works for a department and has many supervisors. I said, "Pick One!" Then I asked for an email address, and she said there is no email address.
I used to be impressed with Apple. Now I know they are a nothing more than a crappy company who does not honor warranties.

My son bough an IPOD with his own hard earned money in June 2006. By August 31st a crack developed on the screen. I tried to take it back to Best Buy, where he bought it, and they said they couldn't replace it because of the physical abuse.
What physical abuse? He even spent the extra cash to buy the more expensive protective case. Besides a few scratches, there is no sign of physical abuse. I took it to an Apple store and they told me the same thing.
So now my son has a $200 Nano + case which won't work, and he only had it for 2 months. They said we could pay to have it fixed for $100.

The clickwheel on my son's Nano stopped working after about ten months. Inside the warranty period clearly.
Upon returning it to Apple, they responded that there was a dent and that voided the warranty. They stated the repair would be $205. Yet they never opened it. How do they know what it would cost to repair when they didn't open it?
This Nano was in a protective case since day one and had no dent in it when it was sent. After two calls and two hours on hold, my wife got to talk with a supervisor who had some blurry, dent pictures emailed to us. My wife wrote back and asked to talk to someone else and NOT to send the Nano back. No response from this person, but a few days later, the Nano was back and was not repaired.
Apple is really playing the misuse and abuse loophole to avoid standing behind their products it seems.
My son has a $250 iPod that isn't even heavy enough to serve as a decent paper weight.

I purchased an iPOD Nano for my son in November 2005, with the extended warranty as well. My son is very meticulous with his stuff, and keeps everything in mint condition. He did not even take the clear protective film off the iPOD screen in 8 months of use. Then one day, the iPOD simply died.
We took it back to Best Buy (BIG mistake -- I will never purchase anything from Best Buy again!). After waiting in line for customer service, they made me wait in another line for the Geek Squad, who claimed the unit had been abused, saying it had water damage. My son is a runner, but never took his iPOD out when it was raining. The only moisture it would have been exposed to was his sweat -- but then again, the iPOD is marketed at athletes, you would not expect a little sweat to break one.
I complained to Best Buy corporate through their web support system, without getting any results. Everyone at Best Buy, from customer service to the Geek Squad to online support were very rude, and aside from being out $250 and $50 for the extended warranty, the attitude of these people is horrible.

I sent my iPod Nano in for service because the battery wouldn't charge. They sent it back to me, wouldn't touch it, because it had a very small dent on the back of the iPod.
Apple said the iPod was abused and wouldn't fix it. I only had it for 3 months. I paid over $200 for it, plus a memory upgrade and all the music I bought on iTunes. What a rip off.

In October 2005, I took my 13 year old son to a local Best Buy to purchase his 2GB white Apple iPod nano. He had saved over $200 on his own, and decided he wanted a nano. Everything during our purchase went fine, and we decided it best to purchase the extended 2-year warranty to cover any trouble that we might encounter. Several months later, my son took his iPod out of his case, and saw a large black spot on the left side of the screen. The battery and right side of the song name were still visible, but more than half of the screen blacked out or blank.
We took it back to Best Buy, and they accused us of abuse. I personally was offended. We weren't there to rip off their company; we just wanted what we had paid for. There was never any abuse to the iPod, other than the normal wear and tear that came with owning one. They said that the leakage was due to a pressure crack. While waiting to speak to the main manager, the technicians from Geek Squad that work inside Best Buy came and pressed on my iPod. No doubt it was a pressure crack by now.
Also, I was treated rudely by the service at Geek Squad. The manager of Best Buy told me the same thing, that neither Apple or Best Buy would replace or refund my purchase. Number One - Best Buy strongly encourages you to invest in their "great warranties". But when something happens, you realize and wonder what the plan ACTUALLY covers. The plan turns out to be a waste of money, and provides you with no help when you need it.
Number Two - I've heard a number of complaints about blacked screens against iPod. The iPod showed no outer signs of cracking. Wouldn't this lead you to think an internal defect occured? I think it's their way of ripping American families off. Number Three - Obviosuly Apple should be well aware of this problem. Any other company would work to make their product more reliable and promising. Everyday, normal wear-and-tear, shouldn't cause a screen to bust. All I've got to say is that Best Buy or Apple will never see my business again.

Purchased 2 Ipod Nanos for my 2 sons for Christmas. First one lasted one week before the LCD was cracked. Second one lasted one month with same problem. Both were well taken care of and NOT abused. Apple refuses to repair or replace. $500 down the toilet. This is a defective product and should be recalled.

My 13 yr. old son saved all his July birthday money, all his 2005 Christmas money, and money from chores and A and B report cards ... all to get an iPod. We bought it from Best Buy and the sales clerk assured me that if we purchased the insurance everything would be covered except loss or theft. My son owned the iPod for approximately 30 days when he put it in his pocket, walked over to a friend's, took it out and the screen was cracked. No display, no music.
We went to best buy only to find out we we were mislead and the screen was not covered. Since there was no abuse on my son's part, I feel as though this screen is manufactured defective. Was it the temperature outside that caused the screen to crack? I hope to get answers someday, as well as reimbursement for my son.

i bought an apple ipod from argos and i bought it on card and they refused to look it up and im left with a brocken ipod and apple wont supliy a new one or money back.

On the 19/11/2005 my parents purchased an iPod Nano for me as a Christmas present from Dick Smiths Electronics, Bunbury WA. My iPod was working fine until about a week ago it stopped working and came up with a folder with an exclamation mark on it.
I acted quickly on this and went to the web site www.apple.com/support/ipod. I followed all the prompts to try and fix the matter but none of them seemed to work. So I took the ipod into the store where it was purchased and they spent and hour or two trying to work out what the problem was, although they had no success either. They gave me the number for the apple hotline where I spent four hours on the phone talking to a man from India. He ran through a number of different procedures but none of them fixed the problem. He then gave me a web site called www.apple.com.au/support/ipod/service/lable/generate_lable.html this gave me a postal address to send my ipod away.
Also my sister has the same iPod using the same soft ware with the same type of computer purchased from the same store at the same time yet hers is working fine. I am very disappointed and unsatisfied with this product and I would appreciated it if you acted on this matter as soon as possible as I have spent hours trying to fix this problem with no results and I would like it to be up and running as soon as possible.

i got an ipod nano for christmas and had 400 songs downloaded on my ipod.... well i plugged it in to my dads computer which was different than the one that i had.. JUST to charge it and it deleted ALLLL my music!

My son purchased an Apple ipod nano late in 2005. Of course being something new he had to have one.
Well all has been good until last week. The screen is completely black. To replace the LCD screen will cost approximately the same as the complete unit. Unfortunately the screen is not covered under the warranty.

I received an iPod nano as a christmas gift. I plugged it in to charge it and it just flashed the apple logo constantly. I returned it to the shop and they said they had never seen this happen before. Over a week later, I received iPod number 2. Same thing happened. I returned the iPod again - again they said they had never seen this happen.
Over a week later I received iPod number 3. It seemed to be ok initially so I spent all day uploaded music to it. When I disconnected the iPod the battery was showing as being very low even though it had been plugged into the PC all day. I returned it to the shop and yes, I am now waiting for iPod number 4. The shop suggested I contact Apple Austrlia to complain and get either a brand new iPod or a different one and perhaps some free accessories. I contacted Apple Australia and after explaining my problem and asking for some form of compensation, I was told that 'Apple are not in the business of compensating their customers'. This reaks of a company that are making huge profits and frankly dont give a sh*t about their customers at all.

I purchased an iPod Nano for my son for Christmas (2005) - just as described in one of your articles, he took it out of his jacket pocket and the screen was broken. This happened on Janaury 18, 2006 - less than one month after he received it. Best Buy refused to replace it despite an extended warranty and representations by its sales person that "everything" was covered. Apple will not respond to e-mail.

I purchased an Ipod nano for my son for Christmas directly through Apple.com. Two weeks later, it was in his back pack in a pdded area nothing happended but when he took it out the screen was cracked. I contacted Apple, thinking they would stand by their product, but no way, they pretty much said tough luck you broke we wnt replace or fix it. $200.00 down the drain and they don't even care that they have lost a customer.

Within 2 days of my son purchasing the IPOD Nano the screen was not functioning and had the rainbow colors going through it. We returned to the store and they refused to help us stating that probably from us wrapping the headset around the nano or putting it in our pocket made the screen crack. They said try contacting Apple to pay to have them repair it. I tried and they are telling me to make an appointment at one of there stores. The closest...an hour away.

The same thing happened to my son's ipod nano that I read about here. The screen is scratched and it's blotchy. He purchased an extended warrenty and when he returned it to get it replaced, he was told the screen wasn't covered. We would like information on how to get involved in the lawsuit against Apple. He only had it for a coulple of months when it broke, and it was kept in his pants pocket when he used it. The music plays, but he can't view the screen. He is only 15 and paid for it with his own money by working over the summer.

Well 4 weeks ago my ipod shuffle was stolen... okay my fault ... 2 weeks ago i bought an ipod nano it dropped while secure in a belkin flipcase from my waist down on the floor. thats not even 3 feet and it was in a case. the lcd is broken now and apple stores dont want to pay for it or replace it. so its 2 weeks of having an ipod nano worth 250 bucks + an ipod nano dock 30 bucks + a belkin flipcase 20 bucks thats 300€ (like 350$) for 2 weeks and i dont have no warranty on the screen .... thats a rip off ! and the akku doesnt last longer than 11 hours either ....

OK well this is the second time I have had a BAD IPOD! I am sick of having to deal with a crappy ipod. I DID NOT drop this one. Right now I have an ipod nano, and its a piece of crap. It was working just fine (its new) I have had it for two weeks...I use to have an ipod mini that fell and broke, but when i first bought it, it didn't work at all, it took forever to load and play and for the buttons to actually respond.
With my new ipod nano, now as i sit here infront of the computer with my nano, it won't get off the hold button, and yes i do know where that is located, but it won't respond and it won't turn off or even put the song off pause. the hold button is totally off, but it still says lock up in the corner. I AM SICK OF HAVING BAD IPODS! these both were from best buy, and let me tell u, I AM NOT A HAPPY COSTUMER!

got an ipod mini as a prize from a website--it worked great for a few days--now won't transfer files from I-tunes. Two trips to the "Genius Bar" at the local store have been fruitless--instead of checking them they give you a little knowledge about settings and updates, perhaps hoping by the time you figure out how messed up it is it will be too late. From the list of complaints by others it looks like the quality is so poor they can't afford to stand behind them. Thanks for the site--I won't waste money on a Nano. Creative and other manufacturers make players that work well and are durable.

Ordered an Ipod Nano through the Apple Store over the phone on Sept 10th 2005. Recied it through UPS ground on Sept 15th. After about a week of attempting to use it and calls to technical service the unit was returned to Apple, they recieved it Sept 28th. The Nano was defective and Apple said a replacement was ordered and an order was created October 6th.
After multiple calls to Apple and no order shipped I asked for a refund on October 18th. I've been transferred from tech service to customer service to sales to get a refund. Each person refers me to another part of the company for a refund, but no one will refund my purchase. Also Nick in customer service will not respond to my voice mail and return my calls. Average hold time is 45 minutes to talk to anyone.
