So a little over a year ago I bought an iPod Nano because it had the 8GB's that I was looking for. The very first problem right out of the gate, every single one of my songs would not work on the Nano. I had to Re-Rip them from CD's and buy them. So that was hundreds of songs made useless within minutes. Secondly, I noticed that I could not just Drag-and-Drop files using My Computer. I was FORCED to use the iTunes software. The bug ridden, giant in size, horrible iTunes software. So if I wanted to add a song from a friends house, I had to download the software and install in on that computer. And with the iTunes software, it has all kinds of backgrounds programs that just sit there using of resources and I have to use MSCONFIG to stop them from loading.

After using the Nano for a while I have noticed the battery life is getting worse and worse. Which looking through the forums, is a very common problem with iPod's. So I looked into buying a replacement battery. Much to my horror, but not to my surprise, changing the battery is a nightmare! See your company doesn't use a standard hook and plug system like many other players out there. You solider the connectors to the board. And you use the smallest wires possible, making it next to impossible for the average person to change a battery on their own. I did read that Apple was sued for this practice, but I guess I bought my Nano too late. What makes the battery life worse is that the Nano doesn't have an On/Off switch! You hold a button and the screen goes blank, but the player is still on and is still using battery power. Out of every electronic device ever created, how can Apple forget to add a simple On/Off switch? Why? Because they want the battery to burn out and for you to run out and drop another $200, $300, $400, ect on a new player!

Apple also knows once you waste a few hundred dollars buying iTunes music, THAT CAN NOT BE PLAYED ON ANY OTHER PLAYER WITHOUT BEING MODIFIED, that you are now their slave for life! On top of all of this my iPod's screen won't even turn off. I have to reset it to unlock it. And I can't stop a song from playing, because once I pause a file, I can only Play/Fast-Forward/Rewind it. The STOP option is gone. Every month brings a new set of problems. I have never had as many problems with anything else, like I have with this stupid player. So now that my iPod is on deaths-door, I am writing this to inform Apple that I am 100% done buying iPods. I wasted over $200! Over a year of stress. And I now have a paperweight.

I received an ipod nano from my wife for my birthday. No sooner did I plug it into my computer's USB port it sent all the volumns of music I had painstakingly stored over a period of years in i-tunes for my old ipod shuffle in i-tunes to never never land ( after hours and many tries I found some of my music jumbled in non discript files that, as of yet I cannot axcess using my present nano software). Devistated, I cannot axcess my music.

I have spent at least 5 hours in the last 12 hours trying to recover my digital music collection. I have most of it on purchased CD'S, but certain rare long sought after selections that in order to find I had searched over a period of years on various on line music sites before finding. Of course after wiping out for ready use everything I had Apple is pushing its' i-tunes online music store in my face on the screen as I view my empty files.

i purchased an ipod nano from this store, February, 2008, and 4 months later, it malfunctioned, and i brought it back to the same store with the reciept and case it came in. The manager told me he couldnt give me my money back or an exchange. The ipod cost was $124.00. He told me to call the tech support line, which i did. The man i was speaking to asked me for the serial number on the ipod and i gave it to him. And he asked for the serial number on the case and they were two totally different serial numbers.

I was shocked becasue i had purchased this ipod new from the bargain shop and the serial number was not the same. The tech support person was able to help me get the ipod working again. This is a good thing because if not, i would have had a 124 dollar ipod broken and no money back for it. He said he couldnt do anything becasue the serial number wasnt the same.

the game that come with the ipod have delected them selves and i konw for a fact that it was not me becasue i was wonting to play them at the time and it said they were un avaliable and i dont no how you get them back

I bought an iPod Nano. I like to rewind songs to memorize lyrics. When I did so the last time, the screen froze, the light stayed on until the battery died.

I have TWO protection plans in place. the tech wrote down in a corresponding email that the unit was 'frozen at the Apple logo'. That's not what I told him. I sent it in for repair and got it back with the We're sorry, but we cannot recreate the problem. It's clearly a defective unit, but Apple now follows the lead of many other companies when dealing with technical and production issues: They ignore them because you have no power and they already have your money.

I now have a dysfunctional iPod. I also have two protection plans that don't do me any good. I paid another 42 dollars when sending the unit in because they said if I bought a protection plan I would not have to pay for shipping.

I now use my Sony minidisc player because IT WORKS.

My cousin and I recently purchased (on one card) a computer, software, printer and ipod nano for my cousin spending over 2k in the store only to come home and find out that the nano does not run on her 3 year old computer. She is using mine to upload the itunes but when I am gone in a few weeks she will be unable to further use her ipod. I called the store and spoke to the rep who refused to get a supervisor for me, and i spoke to a tech on the 800 number who told me that I would be unble to upgrade the computer, and that there was nothing I could do short of buying another computer.

I think this is outrageous and terrible support for a company who prides itself on support. If you purchase an item even if it is several hundred dollars (the nano was 200 dollars!) it should be compatible with mac products or should be given some option for being able to use it. If it is returned opened there is another 20 dollar fee and the hassle of returning it along with the aggravation that one can not buy an ipod if you own an older mac but if you are a pc owner it will work just fine! This is penalizing your own customer base. If this is how you treat your customers I say no thank you! I am returning my computer and will never attemp to buy an apple again!

I wasted tons of time on useless phone calls and was never helped and feel that the product that apple is offering the new ipod is a scam to get people to buy new computers since they can't listen to thier music anymore if they broke/lost/need another ipod. This is not acceptable

Tori of Littleton CO (04/23/08)
Like everyone else's story, this very expensive electronic was carefully protected in its case and lovingly handled. A small black spot appeared on the inside of the screen, just annoying at first, but has grown to cover a good third, making it almost impossible to read anything or make selections. Out of warranty by a few months, I was hopeful that our extended warranty bought from Walmart would get if fixed and return it to usability. However, I hold out little hope since the service person on the phone basically told me I can send it in for them to look at, but they won't cover physical damage of the screen. I wasn't too concerned by this on the phone, since it is pristine except for the INSIDE of the screen.

But now that I've read the lame excuses used by Apple themselves to void warranties, I'm sure that line delivered to me by a secondary company really means Thanks for throwing your money away because we aren't covering it either. Very disappointed in Apple, particularly now that I'm reading all of the known problems with the Nano screen and their refusal to take responsibility for rushing a defective product to market. We will never bother with Apple products in the future.

David of Brooklyn Park MN (04/22/08)
Purchased an iPod Nano for my daughter - it will not turn off unless it is reset EVERY TIME! his is more than I should have to ask of an 8 year old (frankly it is more than anyone who thinks that Apple stuff just works should have to do.) Repeated visits to the Apple store have only resulted in being told that I have to follow the 3R's - what happened to just works? After a year my daughter has given up trying to use it and is no using a cheap mp3 player that just works!

Extremely frustrating. While there is no physical or emotional damage - I find it hard to accept that I paid so much money. Perhaps the most egrigious part of it is that the section of the Apple support forum that dealt with this issue was taken down (it was many pages of complaints with NO response or resolution from Apple beyond telling us to reset our devices.) NEVER has there been an acknowledgement or solution offered from Apple. At least other companies have the decency to admit a problem even if they don't fix it. Not Apple - Yes, I sound bitter - because I am - this sort of elitist attitude hurts honest business people by comparison.

My Ipod nano just stopped working after about 10 times that I used it. I paid alot of money for this product $250.00. Best Buy will not return it. Apple wants to charge me to fix it at costly repairs.

Steve Jobs where is your Integrity? I bought an Ipod Nano 8 gb 2nd generation little over a year ago. Serial No. 5u6457javqt. It does not work properly. Specifically the screen does not come on but it plays music. If I wanted a IPOD shuffle I would have paid $49.00 I PAID $250.00 plus tax. The screen is brand new. The Ipod is 1 year old. i did not abuse it and it has a protective case. I am unsatisfied and I want my Ipod fixed.

I have an IPod Nano. 10 months from the date of receipt the IPod went dead. Apple refuses to honor their warranty, with excuses like they "can't read my documentation" or that "it is inadequate", but they don't say which of the two is the reason.

The PDF file I sent them with all transaction information is completely readable; they just need to use the Zoom function in Adobe reader. Apple Company is apparently not trained with Adobe software. Apple does any possible bureaucratic foot dragging to avoid their legal obligations.

Laurie of Wakefield MA (03/28/08)
I purchased an ipod nano for a Christmas gift this past December. 2 months later the light to the nano dimmed. We brought it to an apple store in Peabody Massachusetts and were told it had water damage!! Than we were told it would cost $129.00 to repair (after paying almost $200 dollars to purchase brand new from the apple website). I was beside myself and denied the repair as I did not know how it happened to have water damage without ever encountering water other than being used during a our normal snowy/rainy season and refused to pay almost the same price I bought it for just 2 months ago. When I expressed my disappointment and disgust at work about my dissatisfactory experience with the apple product, a co-worker who had also bought an ipod nano for her daughter that same Christmas thru the same company website I did, told me that her daughter dropped her ipod nano into a puddle of water, then brought it to an apple store and they replaced her nano with a brand new one with no questions asked!! She was only told that the 1 year general warranty covered 1 free replacement for the year and anything else would be charged accordingly.

I was and still am beside myself, we compared sales receipts and coverage and they are exactly the same. We both paid almost $200 dollars for this so called wonderful product, yet she gets compensated for repair when the fault was upon her and I am not? Am I being discriminated against? How am I different? You cannot do for one and not another! I have never been impressed with apple products but against my better judgment, because of the rave? reviews I gave Apple a chance, I purchased the ipod nano only to have it confirm my previous notion of failure and poor customer satisfaction.

What a waste of my hard earned money, and familiar display of their poor customer service and product reliability. All the more reason I will never ever buy an apple product again and be sure to express to all those I encounter and all those I work with my extreme customer dissatisfaction. It amazes me that my company that is all about 100% customer satisfaction and follows thru on their word would ever consider being a partner with apple to offer discounts to its own employees with such a negligent customer service company.

Atonio of Wellington OTHER (03/22/08)
The Nano Ipod has a screen lock, but this is useless because when someone hooks it up to a computer (usually to charge it or add more songs) and ejects the ipod, the screen lock falters, and suddenly everyone has full access to it. Why bother to create such a faulty screen lock? Everyone these days has an ipod, so everyone also has the right cords to connect it to a computer. That means everyone can defeat the screen lock!

Gloria of Wantagh NY (02/20/08)
Purchased 8GB Ipod Nano Green as a Christmas '07 present for my son. Took out the 2-year replacement policy for additional $29.99. Also got a nice case for it. It is now 2/19/08. The screen does not come on; it is just white and the wheel makes a clicking sound. Went to return it at Best Buy where I purchased, and they tell me it is physically damaged. It seems this is the new term to get Apple off the hook. The Nano looks mint. Then tried to bring it back to the Apple Store. Same thing physically damaged. I am LIVID as this is a $200 item. It should not be considered disposable. Help me please!

There is a SPECK at the top of the Nano. It seems I too am a Nano abuser.

Keith of Carlisle PA (01/26/08)
Have had an Apple IPOD Nano 2nd Generation MP3 player for approx. 1 year. The battery itself is dated 9/26/2006. It went dead recently. I looked into the Apple IPOD battery replacement. For the cost of an IPOD, this is ridiculous. I purchased one of those battery replacements for about $22 off the internet. I Followed instructions to remove the battery, which is quite difficult. I was successful in doing this. This model's battery is attached by three small wires which MUST be soldered. I purchased a small solder iron, another $19 purchase. The three contact points are very small. I have been unsuccessful at getting the solder to stick, even with flux, and have probably destroyed the IPOD at this point. It was an additional cost to replace a battery, and now no IPOD. We also purchased an IPOD for one of our daughters for Xmas this year. I wish we hadn't. That's the last Apple product for me.

Loss of IPOD within approx. one year. Cost is basically prohibitive to renew battery, and the product becomes a throw away if you cannot replace the battery. My personal belief is that Apple is gouging the consumer to reap additional profits by creating a difficult-to-replace IPOD battery, which feasibly only Apple can do. A valid disclaimer should at least be placed on the product, warning consumers of extensive costs of battery replacement.

Taylor of Rochester, NY (01/06/08)
My iPod Nano will not turn on without being plugged in. It is about a year old and the only way it turns on is by being plugged in.  When I unplug it the iPod stops working and everything on the screen like dissolves until its all gone. Then the iPod is off and won't turn on.

I am getting very angry with this.

Stephen of Brewster NY (11/14/07)
Apple advertised a free Nano with the purchase of a Mac Book. After 3 months, still no Nano and just a run around. Basically false advertising and breach of contract. Obiviously Apple is a victum of it's own success.

Ashley of North Hollywood CA (10/09/07)
In the past 2 weeks I have purchased 2 brand new 3rd generation Nanos. Each time, I uploaded my music, took it on a run (over 5 miles), shut it off. And a couple hours later, they were both dead. Unless I am running through giant magnets, this nano must have issues. I am so unhappy with apple, but they seem to have monopolized the portable music device category. I figure 3rd time's a charm, so I ordered the refurbished 2nd gen. model from apple.com (am I the idiot here?). Wish me luck because in 2 days it may not turn on again!

Very annoyed!

Eric of Kensington CA (09/23/07)
Apple & Nike Screw-up Apple Computer prides itself on ease of use -- of which presumably compatability of what they sell is assumed.

Go buy a new Nano at Apple and the Nike + iPod plug-in. No one will tell you they won't work together (i.e. with the new 3rd Generation Nanos). Nothing mentioned on their web site either. (Though a lengthy call to Apple's Bangalore customer service phone operators did confirm that my hours of trying to get it to work were wasted -- as they were incompatible).

But what is truly amazing, is that when I pointed out to the Assistant Store Manager in Emeryville CA the premise why I bought both (I'm an avid runner), in his mind there was nothing amiss -- just a problem with a 3rd party provider (i.e Nike)-- their fault, not Apple's.

He also had no problem with Apple continuing to offer for sale 2 incompatible products in their stores, nor did he seem inclined to alert anyone at Apple.

I had asked to return both, but because I lacked the original packing, no dice. Too bad both items didn't work -- not his problem.

I have personally purchased (or directed company purchases) of nearly $250,000 in Apple products over the years. This was a $235.00 return. When it comes to Customer Service (and the value concept of a long term customer relationship), Apple has much to learn -- and convey to its store management.

As as for the product Managers of Nano (and the Nike add-on), someone there needs to wake up!

Mike of Toronto, OH (08/29/07)
I bought an iPod Nano 4GB less than a month ago.  It never properly downloads an entire playlist, freezes up, and shuts off on its own.

I am very disappointed with Apple. Cost for this was $200!!! and it's useless.

Eleanor of Dublin Ireland (07/10/07)
I was about to write to Apple to complain about my Ipod Nano thinking it was a one off when to my surprise I have just read the list of complaints all similar to my own and now realise it is a complete waste of time writing to them as they obviously have so little regard for their customer. It is so frustrating. I bought my IPOD Nano in Dublin for € 270 in May 2006. Nine months later it froze, I returned it to the shop and was really please because they gave me a new one straight away, however this also froze and when I returned it they said they couldn't do anything because my warrenty had expired.

That is impossible I said because this is only nine months old. Ah yes they said but your warranty is dated to the original. They sold me a defective product and replaced it with another dud and now have the cheek to tell me the warranty has expired. It is disgraceful. I thought robbery was a criminal offence obviously Apple are immune from prosecution. I have never felt so ripped off in all my life.

Candace of Layton UT (05/27/07)

I bought an ipod nano from Target in February 2007. In May of 2007 it just froze up and would not do anything. I went to the Apple website and looked at the instructions for resetting it. None of them worked. After 30 minutes I finally got it to turn off. It would not turn back on. I plugged it into the charger, my computer, and did the reset options from Apple again. I went to the Apple Store in Salt Lake City in the Gateway Mall where I was told that I was an ipod abuser and that the warranty was null and void by several of the employees there. I went home with an ugly paperweight. I have never abused my ipod.

Sandy of Newburgh IN (05/08/07)

Purchased ipod nano in July 06 for our son. The screen has a black scratch or blockage underneath the screen and is now expanding and you can't see what is on the screen. They verified that there was no physical damage and stated that they had had several of the same brought back for the same problem. They sent it off and 3 weeks later we are told to pick it up. That said it is not repaired and that its damage was due to abuse of the unit. The thing has been in a case (which was purchased with it) since it was opened up and with the screen off it looks new. Apple should stand behind its products!

Krystal of Highland CA (04/15/07)

I bought an I-pod Nano about 1 year ago and recently the screen stopped working. I usually have it in my glove box as I have an I-pod hook-up straight from my stereo. Sometime I have it in my pocket, but usually it is kept in my car. The outside casing is scratched, and my I-pod responds to touch, but I cannot see anything on the screen. Now, it tends not to work with my stereo until I reset it.

Timothy of Astoria NY (04/11/07)

My first generation Nano bent in the front pocket of my jeans at 13 days old. One of the Managers at the 5th Ave. store in Manhattan insinuated that I was lying about how it bent, then decided to do me a favor and exchange my new bent $269.00 for a reconditioned one.

Paula of East Brunswick NJ (03/22/07)
I purchased a red Apple IPOD Nano (2nd generation) for my son for Christmas. He loved the red color, and liked that it also helped others out by making a donation at the same time.

After 3 months of using the IPOD, he wanted to download a song to bring in to school on his IPOD for a project on the Middle Ages. He turned off his IPOD to access the computer to download the song. After downloading, he went to hook up his Nano to the computer and the screen remained black. There was enough battery power on the IPOD the minute before, but nothing would make the IPOD work.

We tried charging it with the computer, the car charger and the house charger. Nothing would work. I brought the IPOD in our local store, and the technician plugged the IPOD into one of their speakers systems, and got the screen to light up and show plenty of charge left. I couldn't believe it. But when he tried to hook it up to the computer, although the screen would now light up, there was no way for the computer to recognize that the IPOD was plugged in.

After waiting for a computer geek to take a look, he said it's a rare problem, but the IPOD needed to be replaced. He replaced the IPOD, and I went home happy. My son then used this new IPOD for no more than 2 weeks, when he put his IPOD (in a TOUGH case he purchased for about $30 to store the IPOD in FROM DAY #1!!!!!) in his pocket while in the car. When he got home from a short drive with his dad, he took the IPOD out of his pocket, and to his dismay, the screen is all damaged on the inside. NO ABUSE, NO SCRATCHES (protected ALL THE TIME), NO NOTHING .......and NO SCREEN!!!!!

My husband took the IPOD back to the store, and they told him to send it away to get it fixed for $100! This IPOD is 2 weeks old!!!! How could a screen crack ON THE INSIDE THAT EASILY - I saw my son put that IPOD in his pocket when he left.....he was in the car with my husband, sitting in the back seat - NOT fooling around.

i bought an iPod nano for my nine year old daughter for christmas 2006 its now not even 3 months later and it does not work the screen says disk mode ok to disconnect i have tried all advise and problem shooting info i could find on the web.

It has been too long to return it to Walmart where i bought it but i cannot seem to get a hold of anyone at apple to use my supposed 1 year warranty.

I love the 2gb black nano i got early this year, but there are a few things that bother me. One is that they scratch like crazy! Mine only holds like 260 songs, when it is designed to hold 500; and i have no idea if my nano is on the battery recall, but mine doesnt hold charge well.

I feel as if I didn't get my money's worth.

Jason of New Bern, NC (10/24/06)
I brought a Apple Ipod Nano 1G in Aug 2006.  It is only Oct 2006 and it is no longer working. I tried every steps provided by Apple, but nothing is working.

When I plug the unit into the docking station, it does nothing. It will not turn on. I have not contacted Apple yet, mainly because of the stories I have read about their sorry service.

Michael of Collinsville, CT (10/02/06)
My 14 year old son saved his money and in January purchased an Ipod nano. He was never allowed to take it to school and the most activity it got was in the car on trips. 2 months ago he became unable to see the screen. After taking it to the Apple store we were told that there was nothing they could do as it must have been dropped. There is no visiable sign of trauma to the unit, and no damage except the fact that the screen is marred on the inside.

The unit is not inexpensive by any means and it should not be disposable, as the sales person implied when he offered us 10% off of a new unit.  I am frustrated and my son is upset to think he has to throw away a $200 item that he saved for himself.

Damon of Wichita Falls, TX (09/19/06)
I purchased my son an Apple IPOD Nano in December of 2005. My son loved and treasured it.

About a month ago, the scroll wheel stopped working. I accessed the Apple support website and tried everything they said to do, but without the scroll wheel I was not able to do much. I was, however, able to navigate the CRAZY attempt of Apple to hide the warranty return area.

I finally got them to send me a DHL box and packing instructions for warranty repair (plus $35 for handling). I HAND DELIVERED the box to a DHL facility for shipping.
Today I received the IPOD back!  WOW!  That was fast!  But much to my dismay, I open the box to find the copy of a "Dear Apple Customer:  We regret we were unable..." but none of the conditions boxes were checked. So I called and was told  that when the technicians received the package, they saw there were dents in the Ipod, thus reflecting obvious abuse. WHAT?! - there are no dents in it.

The CSR tells me there is nothing she can do because of the documentation. I ask her for her supervisor and she says she works for a department and has many supervisors. I said, "Pick One!"  Then I asked for an email address, and she said there is no email address.

I used to be impressed with Apple. Now I know they are a nothing more than a crappy company who does not honor warranties.

Erica of Franklin, TN (09/08/06)
My son bough an IPOD with his own hard earned money in June 2006.  By August 31st a crack developed on the screen. I tried to take it back to Best Buy, where he bought it, and they said they couldn't replace it because of the physical abuse.

What physical abuse?  He even spent the extra cash to buy the more expensive protective case. Besides a few scratches, there is no sign of physical abuse. I took it to an Apple store and they told me the same thing.

So now my son has a $200 Nano + case which won't work, and he only had it for 2 months. They said we could pay to have it fixed for $100.

John of Orange, CT (08/28/06)
The clickwheel on my son's Nano stopped working after about ten months.  Inside the warranty period clearly.

Upon returning it to Apple, they responded that there was a dent and that voided the warranty. They stated the repair would be $205. Yet they never opened it. How do they know what it would cost to repair when they didn't open it?

This Nano was in a protective case since day one and had no dent in it when it was sent.  After two calls and two hours on hold, my wife got to talk with a supervisor who had some blurry, dent pictures emailed to us. My wife wrote back and asked to talk to someone else and NOT to send the Nano back. No response from this person, but a few days later, the Nano was back and was not repaired.

Apple is really playing the misuse and abuse loophole to avoid standing behind their products it seems.

My son has a $250 iPod that isn't even heavy enough to serve as a decent paper weight.

Ken of Fairless Hills, PA (08/15/06)
I purchased an iPOD Nano for my son in November 2005, with the extended warranty as well. My son is very meticulous with his stuff, and keeps everything in mint condition. He did not even take the clear protective film off the iPOD screen in 8 months of use. Then one day, the iPOD simply died.

We took it back to Best Buy (BIG mistake -- I will never purchase anything from Best Buy again!). After waiting in line for customer service, they made me wait in another line for the Geek Squad, who claimed the unit had been abused, saying it had water damage. My son is a runner, but never took his iPOD out when it was raining. The only moisture it would have been exposed to was his sweat -- but then again, the iPOD is marketed at athletes, you would not expect a little sweat to break one.

I complained to Best Buy corporate through their web support system, without getting any results. Everyone at Best Buy, from customer service to the Geek Squad to online support were very rude, and aside from being out $250 and $50 for the extended warranty, the attitude of these people is horrible.

Jefferie of Kalamazoo, MI (08/01/06)
I sent my iPod Nano in for service because the battery wouldn't charge. They sent it back to me, wouldn't touch it, because it had a very small dent on the back of the iPod.

Apple said the iPod was abused and wouldn't fix it.  I only had it for 3 months.  I paid over $200 for it, plus a memory upgrade and all the music I bought on iTunes.  What a rip off.

In October 2005, I took my 13 year old son to a local Best Buy to purchase his 2GB white Apple iPod nano. He had saved over $200 on his own, and decided he wanted a nano. Everything during our purchase went fine, and we decided it best to purchase the extended 2-year warranty to cover any trouble that we might encounter. Several months later, my son took his iPod out of his case, and saw a large black spot on the left side of the screen. The battery and right side of the song name were still visible, but more than half of the screen blacked out or blank.

We took it back to Best Buy, and they accused us of abuse. I personally was offended. We weren't there to rip off their company; we just wanted what we had paid for. There was never any abuse to the iPod, other than the normal wear and tear that came with owning one. They said that the leakage was due to a pressure crack. While waiting to speak to the main manager, the technicians from Geek Squad that work inside Best Buy came and pressed on my iPod. No doubt it was a pressure crack by now.

Also, I was treated rudely by the service at Geek Squad. The manager of Best Buy told me the same thing, that neither Apple or Best Buy would replace or refund my purchase. Number One - Best Buy strongly encourages you to invest in their "great warranties". But when something happens, you realize and wonder what the plan ACTUALLY covers. The plan turns out to be a waste of money, and provides you with no help when you need it.

Number Two - I've heard a number of complaints about blacked screens against iPod. The iPod showed no outer signs of cracking. Wouldn't this lead you to think an internal defect occured? I think it's their way of ripping American families off. Number Three - Obviosuly Apple should be well aware of this problem. Any other company would work to make their product more reliable and promising. Everyday, normal wear-and-tear, shouldn't cause a screen to bust. All I've got to say is that Best Buy or Apple will never see my business again.

Purchased 2 Ipod Nanos for my 2 sons for Christmas. First one lasted one week before the LCD was cracked. Second one lasted one month with same problem. Both were well taken care of and NOT abused. Apple refuses to repair or replace. $500 down the toilet. This is a defective product and should be recalled.

My 13 yr. old son saved all his July birthday money, all his 2005 Christmas money, and money from chores and A and B report cards ... all to get an iPod. We bought it from Best Buy and the sales clerk assured me that if we purchased the insurance everything would be covered except loss or theft. My son owned the iPod for approximately 30 days when he put it in his pocket, walked over to a friend's, took it out and the screen was cracked. No display, no music.

We went to best buy only to find out we we were mislead and the screen was not covered. Since there was no abuse on my son's part, I feel as though this screen is manufactured defective. Was it the temperature outside that caused the screen to crack? I hope to get answers someday, as well as reimbursement for my son.

On the 19/11/2005 my parents purchased an iPod Nano for me as a Christmas present from Dick Smiths Electronics, Bunbury WA. My iPod was working fine until about a week ago it stopped working and came up with a folder with an exclamation mark on it.

I acted quickly on this and went to the web site www.apple.com/support/ipod. I followed all the prompts to try and fix the matter but none of them seemed to work. So I took the ipod into the store where it was purchased and they spent and hour or two trying to work out what the problem was, although they had no success either. They gave me the number for the apple hotline where I spent four hours on the phone talking to a man from India. He ran through a number of different procedures but none of them fixed the problem. He then gave me a web site called www.apple.com.au/support/ipod/service/lable/generate_lable.html this gave me a postal address to send my ipod away.

Also my sister has the same iPod using the same soft ware with the same type of computer purchased from the same store at the same time yet hers is working fine. I am very disappointed and unsatisfied with this product and I would appreciated it if you acted on this matter as soon as possible as I have spent hours trying to fix this problem with no results and I would like it to be up and running as soon as possible.

My son purchased an Apple ipod nano late in 2005. Of course being something new he had to have one.

Well all has been good until last week. The screen is completely black. To replace the LCD screen will cost approximately the same as the complete unit. Unfortunately the screen is not covered under the warranty.

Kelli of Sydney, Australia (02/02/06)
I received an iPod nano as a christmas gift. I plugged it in to charge it and it just flashed the apple logo constantly. I returned it to the shop and they said they had never seen this happen before. Over a week later, I received iPod number 2. Same thing happened. I returned the iPod again - again they said they had never seen this happen.

Over a week later I received iPod number 3. It seemed to be ok initially so I spent all day uploaded music to it. When I disconnected the iPod the battery was showing as being very low even though it had been plugged into the PC all day. I returned it to the shop and yes, I am now waiting for iPod number 4. The shop suggested I contact Apple Austrlia to complain and get either a brand new iPod or a different one and perhaps some free accessories. I contacted Apple Australia and after explaining my problem and asking for some form of compensation, I was told that 'Apple are not in the business of compensating their customers'. This reaks of a company that are making huge profits and frankly dont give a sh*t about their customers at all.

I purchased an iPod Nano for my son for Christmas (2005) - just as described in one of your articles, he took it out of his jacket pocket and the screen was broken. This happened on Janaury 18, 2006 - less than one month after he received it. Best Buy refused to replace it despite an extended warranty and representations by its sales person that "everything" was covered. Apple will not respond to e-mail.

Leslie of Spring Lake Park MN (01/16/06)
I purchased an Ipod nano for my son for Christmas directly through Apple.com. Two weeks later, it was in his back pack in a pdded area nothing happended but when he took it out the screen was cracked. I contacted Apple, thinking they would stand by their product, but no way, they pretty much said tough luck you broke we wnt replace or fix it. $200.00 down the drain and they don't even care that they have lost a customer.

Joy of Hamilton Twp NJ (01/04/06)
Within 2 days of my son purchasing the IPOD Nano the screen was not functioning and had the rainbow colors going through it. We returned to the store and they refused to help us stating that probably from us wrapping the headset around the nano or putting it in our pocket made the screen crack. They said try contacting Apple to pay to have them repair it. I tried and they are telling me to make an appointment at one of there stores. The closest...an hour away.

Debi of Whitman MA (01/03/06)
The same thing happened to my son's ipod nano that I read about here. The screen is scratched and it's blotchy. He purchased an extended warrenty and when he returned it to get it replaced, he was told the screen wasn't covered. We would like information on how to get involved in the lawsuit against Apple. He only had it for a coulple of months when it broke, and it was kept in his pants pocket when he used it. The music plays, but he can't view the screen. He is only 15 and paid for it with his own money by working over the summer.

Well 4 weeks ago my ipod shuffle was stolen... okay my fault ... 2 weeks ago i bought an ipod nano it dropped while secure in a belkin flipcase from my waist down on the floor. thats not even 3 feet and it was in a case. the lcd is broken now and apple stores dont want to pay for it or replace it. so its 2 weeks of having an ipod nano worth 250 bucks + an ipod nano dock 30 bucks + a belkin flipcase 20 bucks thats 300€ (like 350$) for 2 weeks and i dont have no warranty on the screen .... thats a rip off ! and the akku doesnt last longer than 11 hours either ....

Sami of Portland OR (11/11/05)
OK well this is the second time I have had a BAD IPOD! I am sick of having to deal with a crappy ipod. I DID NOT drop this one. Right now I have an ipod nano, and its a piece of crap. It was working just fine (its new) I have had it for two weeks...I use to have an ipod mini that fell and broke, but when i first bought it, it didn't work at all, it took forever to load and play and for the buttons to actually respond.

With my new ipod nano, now as i sit here infront of the computer with my nano, it won't get off the hold button, and yes i do know where that is located, but it won't respond and it won't turn off or even put the song off pause. the hold button is totally off, but it still says lock up in the corner. I AM SICK OF HAVING BAD IPODS! these both were from best buy, and let me tell u, I AM NOT A HAPPY COSTUMER!

Jim of Westerville OH (11/01/05)
got an ipod mini as a prize from a website--it worked great for a few days--now won't transfer files from I-tunes. Two trips to the "Genius Bar" at the local store have been fruitless--instead of checking them they give you a little knowledge about settings and updates, perhaps hoping by the time you figure out how messed up it is it will be too late. From the list of complaints by others it looks like the quality is so poor they can't afford to stand behind them. Thanks for the site--I won't waste money on a Nano. Creative and other manufacturers make players that work well and are durable.

Ryan of Spokane WA (10/24/05)
Ordered an Ipod Nano through the Apple Store over the phone on Sept 10th 2005. Recied it through UPS ground on Sept 15th. After about a week of attempting to use it and calls to technical service the unit was returned to Apple, they recieved it Sept 28th. The Nano was defective and Apple said a replacement was ordered and an order was created October 6th.

After multiple calls to Apple and no order shipped I asked for a refund on October 18th. I've been transferred from tech service to customer service to sales to get a refund. Each person refers me to another part of the company for a refund, but no one will refund my purchase. Also Nick in customer service will not respond to my voice mail and return my calls. Average hold time is 45 minutes to talk to anyone.
