What is Tracfone Wireless?

Tracfone is a nationwide prepaid cell phone service. It lets customers keep their existing phones and numbers. Customers in the market for a new phone can browse the large inventory of name-brand phones, including LG, Samsung, Motorola and Apple. Tracfone phones can be purchased at a discounted rate, and shipping is free.

Some plans can be set to refill automatically, while others require manual refills online or at a Tracfone location. Customers can add extra features to their plans, such as global calling or additional minutes, text and data.

Other features that can be added to a basic plan include lost and stolen phone coverage and mobile protection. These services act as insurance in case your phone is lost, stolen or damaged.

Tracfone offers a wide selection of name brand phones, many of which are great for kids and seniors.

    I use to love this company. Been with them since I was a teen. Now lately it's been crap. My service keeps dropping without reasons. Then WHEN I wanted switch to a new phone and had issues, it took over 3 1/2 to almost 4 days to freaking fix it and get it working. On top the staff some were very rude and some were nice. The other staff issue is that they do NOT have any american staff it seems, it seems all the staff is out states and countries meaning their ways are different than ours. I don't recommended them and will be switching to somewhere else.

    I been a customer for years and now customer service is the pits. I kept telling them the unlimited plan states that the data is rolled over but they don't. This is the 2nd time I complained and they keep saying I had 1.68 GB left. But I told them it is another plan the pay as you go plan balance. On the unlimited plan I had 6.06 GB so this should of rolled over to the new 4 GB they gave me so total should be 10.06. No, they said I used up everything except 1.68. I said give me an email address and will send screenshots. No, they can't give an email. Then cut me short saying thank you for being a valued customer but I lost the 6.06 GB balance.

      I am out of data, and I am trying to use Rewards to buy some. Of course, I can't. I try calling and after fighting my way through digital help I get cut off when being transferred to a person. And the chat is way behind. Is there a worse company for customer service? I will be dumping them as soon as I can. No sense waiting for my contract to expire.

      I wouldn't recommend this service to ANYONE, they're constantly having issues with their system. I have to call in EVERY 3-6 months to fix a problem they created & they still don't fix it completely.

      I would rate minus 10 if I could. Absolute worst cell company!! Their app is ridiculous. Their customer service reps are a bunch of liars!! After I asked for transfer pins, they deleted all our data on 2 lines about 5 days ahead of our contract close date. We were on travel at the time, and had no GPS capability because of the data removal. I talked with 3 separate customer service reps, and each of them acknowledged the premature data deletion and committed to return the data. None of them followed through with their commitments. We had to drive home 3.5 hours with no GPS. I hate Tracfone. Also, we had trouble with their Auto Refill EVERY month. Had to be on the phone to get a line reconnected after the turnoff, even with AutoFill active. ##@$$$&!!!!

      I’ve used Tracfone for 6 years. Purchased a new phone through Tracfone. Tried to get old number transferred to new phone. Started with the 611611 which they advise you to use. Tried 4 times. Ended up calling, after 3rd attempt, finally got a heavily accented person with so much background noise from the calling center. This process took over 2 hours. So much frustration. Like most all reviews, if you need something, help is almost nonexistent. Terrible, awful customer service. Do not sign up with them.

      I liked Tracfone until I bought the TLC 3 flip..... complete garbage. Never had a problem until TLC tried 2x..., same problems no signal or weak signal and I live in a strong signal area.

      Where to begin? I have been a Tracfone customer for many years and had few problems, but that has changed since I purchased a new phone from them in March. First, my existing data balance did not transfer to the new phone, and it was a sizable amount. I chatted with 3 different agents, none of whom were able to help. I talked with 2 agents until my call was disconnected.

      Then I got a survey asking me to rate customer service, while they were apparently unable to recontact me to continue helping me. After stewing for about a week, I called one more time, and this agent said at first she could find no evidence that I had no data from the old phone. I told her that was unacceptable. She talked to someone else, and they miraculously found about half the data, so I accepted them. Now, a week or so later, I began getting notifications occasionally that texts could not be sent or received. I chatted with an agent who told me the plan on the new phone was not set up for auto refill, although I was assured earlier that it was.

      She set me up for auto-refill for the same plan my husband has, but now that the charge has appeared on my card, I see that I am being charged more than my husband. If I could change carriers, I would have done that a week ago, but Verizon has changed their policy for unlocking phones. With the advertised "no contract" Tracfone plan, I have to complete 365 days of paid service before I can leave Tracfone. Be assured, when I complete that time, I will immediately leave Tracfone.

      Had TracFone over 20 years. Think time to change. They changed their tracfone site and can't do anything on it. Use to be great and easy till they changed in March. Use different company. Not tracfone.

      I have been a TracFone customer since 2006 and until 2026 received exceptional service and customer service (CS). I have three TracFones and refilling them and dealing with CS has become an absolute nightmare. The once easy online transactions have become almost impossible to navigate. I've attempted to refill one of my phones online multiple times (my service expires today) and it has been impossible. I finally called the # stated and I'm the 43rd person in line - that is appalling customer service. Also, based on personal experience I will be cut off long before I'm able to speak with a representative. I don't like to call them as I'm hearing impaired. Do better TF.

      Wanted to transfer current account minutes and texts to a new phone. Old phone damaged and unusable after 10 or more times getting switched to many departments and people. Finally, they discontinued my number I had for many years. And robbed me of 15,629 min. and 1195 text min. that I had collected over many years. I had never had this difficulty before with TracFone. I will be searching for a better service provider and pursue getting my money that I paid back for what they took. (deceptive trade practices).

      If I could give negative stars I WOULD! I called to remove a line from my plan, as that person is now deceased, and they said I had to pay the full bill (for both phones) before they could remove the line. I spent 45 minutes on the line with a customer service agent (using my daughters phone because mine wasn't receiving calls because of the payment) and the customer service rep continuously tried to send security codes to my phone...it's like she wasn't comprehending that my phone didn't work. After about 35 minutes she finally got the line removed from my plan, then needed to set up new billing information...and it took another 5 minutes of us repeatedly sharing the mailing address because "the zip code is not valid"...No, you're not valid.

      My daughter was assisting on the call and was so fed up she actually had to tell the agent that the address is the exact same as the one on the account, she could just look at it an see what she was doing wrong! I was asked to try to make a call on my phone, shut off and restart the phone (had to do that 3 times) to make sure the phone was working.

      At the end of the call, after explaining that I needed to leave, she proceeded to try to sell me on phone features that I'm "not taking advantage of". That's when I hung up on her. I believe that 99% of what I needed help with today could have been taken care of in 15 minutes, but after every single step the rep took she needed to come back on the line to say "thank you for patiently holding on the line" and then explain the step she did before moving on the the next step. And half the time she had messed up that step and had to go back and do it again! One thousand percent recommend going with ANY OTHER COMPANY for phone service...don't waste your time on TracFone!!!

      I have to take a sedative before trying to navigate the Tracfone website. It usually results in 10 to 15 minutes when it should take 5 minutes. Multiple logins, idiot loops and an extremely slow loading everything. Tracfone needs to hire a webmaster who isn't in grade school. Extremely frustrating. Tracfone website is an experience in extreme frustration, it sucks.

      Negative 5 stars. Customer service all provide you with different information and provide false information so you will have to call multiple times. I have my payments set to autopay and every month I always seem to have to call with some type of issue during the time of the payment being processed or been processed. Discounts should be applied for the days the phone is not in service. Please go with another provider if you can. Unfortunately due to my partner's circumstances, Tracfone is our only option. I'm not the type to write negative review but I would have to say this is by far the worst experience ever.

      I've been with Tracfone for about ten years now. Generally, I've been pleased with them. Their service is great if you can't afford the expensive monthly bills from other companies. However, at this point, if I could change providers, I would. In June 2025, I returned a defective phone to them after speaking to customer service. They tell me it will take approximately three days to get there, three days to process, and three days to return the new phone. I waited two weeks with no update and contacted them again.

      They told me they had received the phone, but that they didn't have any of the same type in the warehouse to ship out. To just wait a bit and I would get an update. Another month goes by, I contact them again, they tell me that it takes up to 60 days for a return to process and I have to wait. So I waited the rest of the 60-day period, call them back, and then they tell me they can't find the information and that I needed to speak to the warehouse department. They gave me a number to call, I called it and said I was told I was supposed to speak to the warehouse dept. They told me there was no such thing. After a 20 minute argument they transfer my phone call.. to the warehouse department.

      The warehouse department tells me that they need six days to investigate it and to call back. I wait a little over a week to give them time, call back, they won't transfer me again, saying the department doesn't exist and eventually hang up on me. I try again in three days, talk to them, they tell me that they confirmed the phone was both received and processed but then they have no more information after that. They need to escalate the ticket and I'll need to call back. Every time I called back, they kept telling me they were investigating it, there was no problem on my end, they just needed more time to find out what happened. After almost a year of this, I call, infuriated, and tell them I'm done.

      They then tell me there is no record of them ever receiving the phone (I have multiple screenshot records of the customer service interactions) or processing it. That their records show I never called them more than once. (Which I also have physical logs of the outgoing calls and call times to their customer service number on the old, smashed phone I've had to use all this time.) They say I have to call UPS and get the tracking info for the package I sent to them, since it was UPS drop-off and you don't get a receipt or tracking without an account.

      I call UPS and they say they don't keep records longer than 120 days. Tracfone strung me along just long enough for UPS records to be wiped before telling me they needed them. And now they refuse to replace the phone they confirmed multiple times was received and being processed. They also wouldn't tell me why their rep told me they had it if they actually didn't, and then told me that "no one will take your evidence into consideration." So, yeah, the cheap service is worth it as long as you never need help. I'll be buying all my phones unlocked directly from the source now, even if I have to pay twice the price.

      I have been with them 20 plus years. Their customer service at times has been a living nightmare. Just before they sold it was assured they would make up stuff to tell you to get you off the phone. I even had a supervisor give me his number to call. I'd had so much trouble. I had a phone that was a backup that had 500 minutes on it, and service until 2036. I'd check it occasionally for messages and never received anything notifying me that they were going to cancel my service for inactivity! They took my 10 years and my minutes and re assigned my phone number without any notice. When I called they told me I could buy a plan and get a new number!

      Good customer service would have restored my minutes and service and gave me a new number. But then customer service is non existent. I guess you get where you pay for....Looking for a new company. I have 2 other phones but doubt I'll buy another Tracfone when one of them dies. When you do a longtime customer dirty, you show your true colors.

      I have been a customer of Tracfone for more than 15 years with very few tech problems. Service has always been a long wait. Today my phone was deactivated for the 3rd time in about 6 months because they did not process my auto payment on time. My card had not expired or rejected the payment. Tracfone just didn't process it. I had to make a manual payment to reactivate my phone. I am not a happy customer and I am presently shopping for a new provider.

      I have been a Tracfone customer for at least a decade. The service area was good enough for my needs and I bought a year of access at a time for a reasonable cost. Then 2026 happened and tracfone "updated" their website so that it is just no longer usable. I had five phone lines. After the update four of them were no longer on my account. I called, I chatted, I waited for call backs, I wasted hours of my life. I was finally able to get the phone lines re-added to my account, but now I can't buy access for any of them because every attempt brings error messages. My phones are useless and I am so frustrated I can't see straight. I can not believe how badly they've messed this up. Look around online. There are tracfone customers everywhere having the same experience. I wish negative stars were an option. AVOID TRACFONE AT ALL COSTS.
