Magicjack

Irva of Fredericksburg, VA May 29, 2009

Pros: the product is easy to use, ready to use right out of the box, and you can take it with you anywhere. Con: it's not reliable. Like you, I have one and will not continue to use it after my year is up because many times the quality of the call is not good. I did the trouble shooting with a representative online but that did not fix it. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. Contacting "customer service" is another issue that gets you nowhere.

I could not get them on phone, only via chat and that was beyond frustrating. I spent over an hour and a half with them and they still could not fix my problem. I didnt find them to be too helpful, friendly and easily accessible as customer service should be. However, for such a low price you really cant expect much.

I too, wouldnt advise anyone to get rid of their landline unless they are 100% satisfied with the call quality of the magic jack. Im glad it works for some but I know that for me, some co-workers and friends it doesnt work as well, it's not worth it, and we all live throught the DC/MD/VA area. I too am in the military and I think Vonage or some other reliable source is better than this though a little more expensive. You get what you pay for with this one.

i purchased the magicjack and i did talk to a live person however, getting the magicjack to work properly has been difficult. i check all of my computers usb ports and found themto be working correctly. the phone is new.so i am stumped. i have worked with this device for a year until the magicjack people told me that i owed them 98 dollars and some change. i do not understand how i could owe them this money when the device did not work most of the time. and if it did work it clicked while you were talking.

Rosemary of Brownstown Township MI (04/01/09)
In August of 2008 I purchased two magic jacks which included one full year of unlimited telephone service anywhere in the USA and Canada, and was so pleased I purchased two more in September. I kept one for my own use and gave three away as gifts. In November I took advantage of an online offer to extend service for an additional 5 years for 59.95...even though I was paid up through August of 2009....this would extend me til August 2014. I was shocked to see a DOUBLE billing of 59.95 when the offer clearly stated there was a limit of one offer per customer.

I disputed the charge to my Discover card for the double billing and it was credited from my Discover account in December of 2008. In February of 2009 the disputed charge was reposted to my DiscoverCard although the extention of service was NEVER added to my magic jack account....it still expires in Aug. 2009! I was experiencing problems with the jack and the only way to 'contact' them is through live chat on the computer. They always promised a followup email would be sent to me within 72 hours so I could return the broken unusable jack for an even exchange but they never do. I have saved copies of the live chats we had.....no one will respond to me to reolace the unusable broken jack nor will they allow a refund of the 59.95 for the additional 5 yrs of service I have never been credited with!

I depended on the magic jack which was my only home phone....I no longer have a home phone without the jack. [In order to receive a replacement for your magicJack, you have to chat with one of our Live Agents and go through trouble shooting before a replacement can be issued. Once the replacement has been issued, you will receive an email with an RMA number and return information for the original magicJack. The original magicJack must be in our hands within two (2) weeks, in order for you not to be charged for the replacement magicJack. Please make sure to include the email with your RMA number when returning the original magicJack.]

Offer a trial for their product, the MagicJack. They do not tell you until after it is ran, that if you try the trial with a debit card, it bills you immediately and then refunded if you dont like it. I canceled the order, and was encouraged by online staff to do it again, this time runnin the card as credit. I did..and got the same results. I got frustrated and canceled this order as well.. Two people identifying as senior supervisors said the orders were canceled. A third senior supervisor acknowledged that those supervisors had canceled the trials. A fourth supervisor lets me know that they went ahead and mailed the product anyways.

I post a sign on my mailbox, do not accept MagicJack. I dont get a package. 30 days later, my account is hit with a new 93 dollar 80 cent charge. I am told that as soon as they get their package back, they will work on returning my money. I am still waiting. Since my issue came up, they are now no longer offering their chat log function, which emails the logs of your correspondences to your email.

overdrafts, late bills, anxiety, stress, loss of time with hours of dealing with this.

I just wanted to know if you had any complaints about this Magic Jack product. I have had trouble with it and they are no help with their services.

I think it is a waste of money. I bought it for my wife that lives with diabeties.
