Magicjack

toni of las vegas, NV August 19, 2009

Dont buy this product online with "trial offer", there is no 30 day trial offer, I was chared the same day on my credit card & the co wouldnt accept cancellation, I think its a scam! So now I have prepaid for this item & the "chat line" gives you the runaround, somebody needs to close them down!

David of Boise, ID August 19, 2009

I have had service with Magicjack as a VOIP telephone at my home located, this phone service also provides 911 emergency service if needed for any and all maters to both my 8 year old daughter, and myself. The contract with Magicjack states they will contact prior to interruption of phone service due to the important nature of utilities such as telephone that is the only logical means of doing business. I unfortunately had no email stating the contract was about to end giving me opportunity to make payment and continue seamlessly and safely. I have gone to great measures to teach my daughter how to use this phone as well she also depends on the number if ever she has to make contact with me from outside the home, such as her elementary school. I have patiently waited for several days now, being told since Sunday to wait for then to contact me due to the account being under review, It is Wed. and I have once again spent over a couple hours on the internet with live help being told to stand by, and no time frame for contact! They seem to be able to get thousands others going everyday but unable to restore service that has already been on a year? I hope somebody understands the nature of my problem and can help me to get some solid answers from this company?

I discovered that MagicJack uses Internet Explorrer sessions to connect to the talk4free.com authentication servers, which filled my Internet Explorer cache with flotsam and jetsam which I have to clean up. I had found a way to use MagicJack in Sandboxie, up until recently, when the program was updated with a switch for wired and wireless Intenet connections. In an effort to crack down on illegal clones of MagicJack, they devised a simple test that Sandboxie would not allow - it performs a direct USB manipulation test. Since Sandboxie does not allow the test to work, it thinks I am using a cloned MJ box, and directs me to buy one on the website. I disabled Sandboxie for MagicJack, and it is writing to my Explorer cache. It might download other items in an effort to offset the costs of the system. If I had a choice and a sizeable budget, I would choose Vonage over MagicJack. However, I will use MagicJack because it's cheaper.

Take a fools advise and try the free 30 day trial off their website before you buy. They advertise on TV and in various places Free Local and Long distance and that all area codes are available. I took for granted since my area code was listed that I would have local incoming calls and outgoing calls. Wrong the outgoing calls are fine but it costs me long distance charge to call the Magicjack phone which is located in the computer room.

All I can say is buyer beware. The Area Codes they have listed may not have but one city which is what my situation is. Same area code as my home phone but different pre fix. One city only in that area code.

I purchased this magic jack product via the telephone. It has far too many glitches/bugs magic jack doesn't warn customers.People tries to call me,their told I'm unavailable or system is busy.A lot of times i can't place a call.Heaven forbid there's an emergency, you're left up the creek. You have to keep contacting magic jack so many times thru live chat to hopefully fix the problem. It's ridiculous that you have to do this all the time.Considering the miniscule amount you have to pay for this product. It's still too much for all the headaches you endure. After twenty plus years of dealing w/ Verizon I was driven away from them.Verizon lets' other companies piggy back on their bills. These other companies claim you ordered voice mail, long distance service via the internet,it's a lie. This harassment by businesses has to be stopped.Million dollar companies are actually trying to embezzle from the general public as if they don't make enough money.

I purchased a MagicJack in March 2009. At Best Buy Electronics in State College. I was not aware that it did not cover my area code which is (814).I had to pick another area code.I chose 717 which is close to me,about 25 miles. The main problem I have is to make a local call I have to dial 814 then the local number. It also will not allow me to make a call to a number that requires a numeric reply. If I call my pharmacy an it requires me to enter my prescription number it will not recognize my input. That happens every time I have to make a numeric reply.I have tried to contact them via live chat and I Get the same answer " Our engineers are working on it. I can never get a straight answer about what is required for them to acquire 814 area code.

I purchased magicjack to replace my landline. My kids used it alot. Magicjack disconnected my service for "overusage" and then they asked me to buiy minutes, if I want to use their service even for local calls. This is a scam and it will be happening to everybody after they reach their usage limit.

Lynne of Springfield, IL June 27, 2009

I orddered their product on a free trial last Aug. 2008 and could never get it to work. I called to return it and talked with a represetative who attempted to walk me thru a process to get it working. We didn't get it working and I requested return instructions. The next thing I knew I had a charge on my credit card: I contacted them again and told them I wanted a refund, but they said they had updates. So I tried updating and trying again to no avail. I still have the thing and still it doesn't work and I do not want to be charged again. Also, they are very difficult to get ahold of. There should be a direct phone# to contact.

R of Newtonville, MA May 30, 2009

magicJack advertises on their packaging and website "FREE Local and Long Distance Calling" without any footnotes or asterisks. Careful! As it turns out, free calling is to the US, Canada and Puerto Rico only. To call any other international destination, you have to add credit to your account (and calls are much more expensive than Skype for example) I would just like to make sure that they add notes or an asterisk so that customers are aware of this BEFORE they buy the product.
