Florida Opens "Cramming" Probe
Cramming Hits Consumers When They Least Expect It

Gloria of Brandon, MS (10/1/05) ILD Teleservices "slammed" Internet service (SurfSafe Internet) to our BellSouth phone bill.

Damages: Charged $16.45 to our phone bill.

Marianne of Stormville, NY (9/29/05)
I own East Fishkill Garden Supply, LLC, and my Frontier Communications business telephone bill was crammed with unauthorized charges by Koodley.com and ILD Teleservices Inc.

I called my local phone provider and asked what these charges were for. They told me to contact ILD and ask them to remove the unauthorized charges. I called both companies and both refused to remove these charges from my bill.

My company is a small rural garden center. I do not need nor did I request a web page. I understand this cramming of my phone bill violates Section 5 (a) of the FTC Act, 15 U.S.C. 45.

Mark of Waco, TX (9/28/05)
A man with a very heavy accent called the attorney's office, in which I work. He wanted to fax, for review, a website listing they had made. He said if the owner liked it, we could purchase it.

I told him we did not need a website. He said it was free for a trial period and I specifically asked the man if we were going to be charged for anything. He said No; it was completely free unless we agreed to it. I told him that I was not authorized to make any decisions on purchase, and I didn't want to get in trouble. "Don't worry", he said.

Well, this AM I come to work and the owner has his phone bill with a $102.00 charge for a website from ILD, with my name next to it!

Damages: ILD charged us $102.00 for a bogus web site that was not authorized.

A of Pittstown, NJ (9/22/05)
My Sprint bill had a charge for $108.98 that I did not authorize from ILD Teleservices, Inc for BizSitePro monthly fee, set up fee, and tax. This is a recurring bill.

I called their number and received messages that they are closed for the hurricane. Sprint has listed my dispute but says they are required to bill me. Not only is the original $109 in question, but also there is a possibility of recurring fees.

Fisher of Las Vegas, NV (9/19/05)
With a Sprint representative and the ILD Teleservices representative on the line, I called Local Biz USA regarding the web hosting monthly fee that we were charged through our Sprint bill. The ILD rep told us that they had received approval by a bogus name.

Damages: We paid $34.95 a month for over a year because we thought that they were a genuine service that we were using.

Paul of Palm Springs, CA (9/13/05)
I received a call at my business several months ago by a caller that stated she was calling on behalf of Verizon, my local business phone provider, offering a free 30-day trial of a website hosting service. I agreed to accepting the trial listing, with the understanding that the site would be up and available for me to review within a matter of 2-3 days, that I would receive a packet of additional information in the mail within two weeks, and that at the end of the trial I would not be charged unless I wanted to continue with the service; without this I would not have agreed to accepting the trial.

I was given a website address, a confirmation number and a toll-free number to call if I had further questions. Needless to say, the website address never worked and attempts to reach anyone at the toll-free number have been fruitless.

I did a Yahoo search on WebOneUSA, and found some bogus looking site, with very little information about the company.

Damages: Current past due charges of over $50 and growing each month.

Keith of Intervale, NH (9/5/05)
A charge of $43.95 was placed on my Verizon residential phone bill as a third party charge by ILD Teleservices on behalf of a company called SERFSAFE internet. I have never heard of either of these two companies and certainly not ordered anything from them or authorized any charges. Verizon seems unable or unwilling to delete this fraudulent charge.

Jim of Langhorne, PA (9/1/05)
A charge for Internet appeared on my Verizon bill despite the fact we use cable for our Internet. I called the number for ILD listed on the bill and they claimed my under-age daughter signed up for it. I asked them to remove the charges. As of this date, they have not been credited back.

Damages: Verizon would like the $44.00 or a credit from ILD

Ayoma of Falls Church, VA (8/4/05)
Unauthorized charges totaling $112.62 were charged to my Verizon home phone account. I contacted ILD on three occasions during the week of 7/25 to discuss this matter and request removal of these unauthorized charges. The operator refused to remove charges or transfer me to her manager.

ILD contends that these were website charges, however no one was home at the time of the charges (during the work/school day) and we did not have a working computer in the home during the period the charges were assessed.

Damages: My home phone bill currently has $112.62 in unauthorized/fraudulent charges that ILD refuses to remove.

Christie of Connel, WA (8/29/05)
I got my phone bill and ILD charged me $30.88 for some kind of internet service that I never authorized. When I called them, I was kept on hold for over 30 minutes and have not been able to dispute these charges.

Dennis of Charlotte ND (2/9/03):
Local phone bill includes "Service Provider - NATIONAL ONLINE SERV" with a $29.95 charge for "Internet Access Service Monthly Fee" -- this is TOTALLY RIDICULOUS AND FRAUDULENT! I don't recall placing ANY order for these services, don't receive any, and don't need some crappy dial-up Internet anyway.

Linda of Silver Springs MD (2/7/03):
In September of 2002 I began getting $30.85 charge on my Verizon bill from Nat'l Online Intrnt billed by ILD Teleservices. I initially thought taht this charge was klinked to my Verizon DSL service. Upon talking with Verizon I found that this was a thord party billing nad that they had nothing to do with the company. I asked Verizon to please do not allow these charges to be billed to my account since ILD was not authorized to do so. Their response was that they had no control!

I was able to get through to ILD after a 22 minute wait. I spoke with a young woman named Elid #5356. She was not able to provide me with any information on who had authorized these charges. She agreeded to cancel the service and give me a credit. She was not able to provide me with any type of confirmation number that would assure me that the credit was forth coming. She also said that the credit would not come through for 30-90 days! I asked her for information on nat'l Online and all she could provide me, after a 10 minute hold, was an address in Miami. This cost my business $154.24!

A small busienss in West Sunbury PA (2/7/03):
A charge for $32.65 for an internet service that we did not order has been on our bill since Oct 2001. I called Sprint, they told me to call ILD. I called them and they said they would take off current month but could not go back. They gave me 1-888-948-1930 to call but there is no one answering at that number. Cost us $496.

Gudrun of Orwigsburg PA (2/3/03):
A bogus charge was placed on our Verizon phone bill for online services. We have no computer at that location, nor did anyone authorize any charges. We tried to contact ILD at 1-800-433-4518. 3 attempts and no connections, the third time we waited for 15 minutes on the phone with a verizon representative to get action, noone answered. Verizon representative informed me that they are helpless and can do nothing from their end. We have never authorized, have no knowledge of nor accept any liabilty to these charges.

Martin of West Hyannisport MA (1/25/02):
Verizon bill for period dated Nov 25 - Dec 24, 2001, includes charges for Nov and Dec in amount of $29.95/month, total $59.90 in name of "Nat'l Online Intrnt Mth" listing referring to 800 number for questions regarding charge. I called the number, asked for clarification and was told that ILD Teleservices was a billing service only and could not justify charge. I asked for e-mail address of responsible party and was disconnected.

Just beginning to try and have charges removed from my bill, an endless process of phone calls, faxes, e-mails, etc. Plus exasperation of having "professionals" hang up on you.

Bernadette of Brick NJ (11/13/02):
I receive my telephone statement dated October 20, 2001 and found charges by ILD Teleservices for the period ending September 20 in the amount of $12.95, and again for the period ending October 18, 2001 in the amount of $12.95. Their recording states that this was authorized by Group Lotto which is an internet site. I have not authorized this service. I have been trying to contact their company since October 29, 2001 and no one ever seems to call back.

I have left numerous messages to cancel this service and to also have someone contact me both at home and at work. Against to no avail. Would like some help in removing this service as well as getting a refund in the amount of $24.90.

No return calls. No responses at any time. Being charge for unauthorized service. Recording states must pay for charges already billed. Looking for recourse to recoup these monies and any future charges by ILD Teleservices.
