AT&T Wireless Leads In Number Portability Problems

Although AT&T Wireless shares the name of its former parent company, it has long since moved out and started life on its own. But even as an independent company, AT&T Wireless displays many of the same traits that have caused its parent to watch its once-massive customer base ever so steadily erode.

You can't say AT&T is no longer innovative. Whereas most cell phone companies insist their contracts run until the moon has turned to dust, AT&T now waits quietly for some favorable contracts to expire so that it can hit customers with the highest rates imaginable. Don't laugh, it happened to Alina.

A few recent complaints:

D.j. of Austin TX (09/04/08)
I purchased a Pantech Duo phone for my son on or about July 15th, 2008. It started dropping occasional phone calls and text messages about 30 days after purchase. We first went to a authorized retail to make sure we had not made some adjustment to its settings. He replaced the sim card and said that it seemed to finally be working but the dropped calls and text messages continued.

I call AT&T and they made me go through 2 one hour calls to troubleshoot and then tell me I can get a refurbished phone to replace my brand new one I just purchased for hundreds of dollars. My complaints were to no avail...warranty department said they could do nothing to keep me as a customer but would HOLD ME TO MY NEW CONTRACT. Well, AT&T I have to stay with you for 2 years but guess you have finally lost me forever after that.. Buyers beware... there is no customer care there.

Robbie Brile of Boyertown, PA September 4, 2008

Robbie of Boyertown PA (09/04/08)
I have not really been paying attention to cell phone bill. after looking over my bill i noticed that i was being charged about 60 more per mo than i was suppose to be paying (for 6 Mo). after many phone calls to at&t they agree to credit my account however they will need to file a claim. this will take about 3 to 4 days. at that time they determine the amount they owe me and will credit my at&t account.

so now after 6 month of over charging me about 60 more per mo they want to keep my money even longer by putting a credit on my account. I requested a refund back into my checking account. they already have my account number because I had auto pay ....phone charge comes out of checking account each mo. they say can not do that. they will file another claim to send me a check in the mail however this will take about 1 mo. how can they keep my money this long and why do they not owe me restatuction.

if i pay my bill late i am asessed a late fee. if a check bounces i am charged a 30 fee for the mistake. why do they not owe me at least to put money back into my account asap. do not understand why they can not credit my bank account. also was told that it was my fault , i was to check my bill and make sure it was correct. they really only need to go back 3 months was what they told me. any advise you can give me would help. thanks

James Hall of Appleton, WI September 3, 2008

James of Appleton WI (09/03/08)
In March we purchased four iphones, because we really liked the functionality and especially the itunes. We were using verizon as a carrier, but switched to AT&T, because of their agreement with Apple. Since then our level of service has declined to the point where I will drop a minimum of five calls a day, and can rarely get on the internet. This is all while being in Appleton or Green Bay...not out of town.

I have had several discussions with the Appleton office, but they say I am the only one having these problems. I know that isn't true, because I have talked to alot of at&t customers who are experiencing the same problems

It has made it very difficult to conduct business with the lack of service. I can't believe that they can continue to bill customers in full when they are receiving limited service at best.

Tarun Navlani of Houston, TX September 2, 2008

Tarun of Houston TX (09/02/08)
i was double charged on my september bill it was clearly showing me that i was charged for month of aug and july . when i told them they said charges were legal and if i put a case against it there will be no return, so i have to change my plan and pay them the money and then again i can change my plan back.

i am not financially stable and these extra 100 affected me a lot

Frank of Houston TX (09/02/08)
illegal billing, mis-billing, and basic false adverstising. illegal deduction of funds from my account, and damage to my credit when I tried to cancell service. What can we do when they extort money directly from our accounts.
