Victoria's Secret

Garri of Loma Linda CA writes (11/28/01):
On 11/12/01, I purchased one undergarment for $40.85 from Victoria's Secret using my B of A debit card. During the transaction, the sales associate asked if I would like to join their Angel Club to receive free catalogs and discount coupons. Without a second thought, I provided the associate with my name and address, which was being entered into a cash register, as I spoke. When asked for my social security number, I relayed the number then asked why was it needed?

It was too late! The associate was running a credit check for a credit card that I did not approve. Upon receipt of the credit card in the mail, I contacted the Victoria’s Secret Credit Card provider and asked that they remove the inquiry and credit card account that I did not authorize.

When I spoke to Sabastian at the Credit Company, he informed me that he could not remove my account due to a balance of $40.85. I informed him that this exact amount was debited from my B of A account so how could it be on the VS card? After calling B of A and looking at my receipt, I realized the sales associate never used the B of A card that I presented, but placed the transaction on the new credit card that I never authorized. I have been unsuccessful in my attempts to talk to a live person at the VS headquarters. I have left messages requesting a return telephone call since November 24, 2001.

Garri should write to the company, preferably via certified mail, return receipt requested, enclosing a check for $40.85 and directing that the account be closed.

Lesley of Howell MI writes (7/13/01):
I bought some items at Victoria Secret. They asked me at the time if they could ring another transaction with mine. They told me that I would never be able to tell. I stated that as long as I it is not on my bill and I am not going to be charged for it that was fine. When the transaction was completed they gave the other customer her receipt and then gave me mine.

As I was walking through the mall I noticed that there was an item that I was over charged for. I had also noticed that on the receipt I was holding it had the other customers name and credit card information along with my name and credit card information. If I have all this I think that the chances are pretty good that she has mine. I Contacted V.S. claim department by phone and by mail. An adjuster called me back and left a message. I was advised that they contacted the store and that to the best of their records they are pretty sure that the other person doesnt have mine.

I have requested something in writting stating that they would accept liablity for any damages. I'm getting nowhere! I can't get a letter and I'm getting no satisfaction.

"M" of Beverly Hills CA writes:
My sister ordered a sweater for my birthday in July. It is now September and the order is still on back order. The service is unacceptable. Anyone who orders will be charged immediately with no item to show for. I am still bargaining for the shipment of this pathetic sweater.

I do not personally shop at Victoria's Secret anymore. The underwire bras are horrible, cheaply manufactured, and fall apart everytime. Try Fredericks of Hollywood, they ship their orders and to my surprise and yours they have high-quality bras for women who are serious about a decent look and quality.

Erin of St. Cloud, MN, writes:
I ordered a dress set from Victoria's Secret in Oct. of '99. About a month later I recived just the cover-up part with no dress. I called and told them what had happened and they said they would send a new one out promptly. In the mean time I paid off my credit card balance as I was trying to rid myself of credit cards, because I am a college student. Instead of sending me just the dress that they had not sent they sent me an entire new dress and cover-up. They contacted me and told me that i needed to send back the other cover-up part.

Here is where I am partly at fault. I was in the process of transferring schools and since I did not send it right away, it got packed up and really forgotten about. During this time the company recharged me for an entire new dress costing $79.99, which I had already paid off, and only had a cover up to. Eventually in July I sent back the cover up, and believed they had gotten it. But when I called them because I was receiving late payments they said they never received it and that I should have insured it. I had no idea that you could insure things in the mail and the rep that I talked to never told me to do that.

Anyway, I still have not been able to clear up things because I can only speak to that particular rep that recharged me. And she only works mon-thurs days. I am a fulltime college student as well as a waitress who works around 30 hours a week. To be honest it is hard enough for me to figure out my own schedule as well as this rep who works in Ohio, who is the only person who can clear it up.

I never really have had a problem with Victoria's Secret before, no late payments etc, but this situation really irks me. I will probably end up paying twice for receiving only one dress, which in fact I have never worn.

Jessica of Alton, NH, writes:

I ordered several bra and underwear sets from Victoria's Secret catalogue. After a year of minimal use -- maybe once ever two weeks -- several of the bras have fallen apart, the underwire pokes through and has cut me twice on two of the bras. After twenty to thirty dollars for a bra, it should last longer than that.

I received a 1 1/2 inch long cut on my right breast from the metal wire, which caused severe discomfort.

Kristin of Philadelphia, PA, writes:

I placed an order from their catalog almost 2 years ago and the items I wanted weren't available yet, they were placed on backorder in which you aren't supposed to be billed until you receive your items. Well I never received any items and I didn't think about because at the time I wasn't billed yet.

So I went to use my Victoria Secret credit card at their store in Oxford Valley Mall in Phila, PA and it was declined I asked why but the salesgirl didn't know so I let it go and used a different card. On my last statement my balance on my card was $60 which I paid off right away.

About a month later I received my next statement which said I owed them $336 which I never even spent there.

I called to get it straightened out , they said it was from my catalog orders that were once backordered, that were supposedly sent to me but which I never received. They had no verification that I received my orders because I never signed for any which I had done in the past when I ordered from them before.

They told me they would investigate the amount and find out what happened. Well, all they did was feel that I was responsible for the amount and should have to pay it. I dealt with them on the phone constantly being sent to talk to one person after another, basically they never did the investigation and they are trying to screw me now by saying I have to pay it even though I know it's their mistake and now it could cost me over $400 and they sent it to a collection agency.

If they had done the job they were supposed to I wouldn't have this problem now.

Kristin needs to send a certified, return receipt requested, letter to the collection agency saying she disputes the charge and reciting the above history. That should settle it.
