HP Cameras

Consumer Complaints & Reviews

In 1993, I purchased a Hewlett Packard Digital Camera. For the first couple of years after I purchased the camera, I didn't use it because I couldn't figure out how to use it. Finally, when I decided to learn how to take pictures on the camera to put on eBay, I started to use it. I would say it was about a year ago. I started taking pictures on the camera to put on eBay and I didn't have any problems until last week, when the camera would stay on for only a few minutes and give me a message "E106". When I tried to find out what the message meant, there was no explanation. I took the camera to Radio Shack and Staples to ask for help. After checking the camera, neither person could solve the problem. The person at Staples gave me Hewlett Packard's 800 number and when I called, the person at Hewlett Packard said it was an old camera and they don't even carry parts for it anymore and had no idea what the message meant.

My problem is, even though it was purchased in about 1993, I hardly used it. Only to put some pictures on eBay.

i innocently ordered a replacement part for my camera. now after 4 hrs on hold over $200 dollars and 2 wrong parts i cant even get customer service to help me. i have been treated rudely by non english speaking operators and intentionally re-wrong directed and at one point screamed at-i want my money refunded, the wrong orders sent back, and th right one sent, but who the heck can help me. so far NO ONE.

I purchased an HP 945 camera. During the first year it started developing pink and red cross lines intermittingly on pictures. After many calls and letters I have found out that this is a prevailing problem with HP but that outside of warranty there is nothing they will do about it. The problem is that after the camera went out of warranty the pink/red lines appeared on all pictures and now will not go away.

Can't use the camera

I bought a PhotoSmart R727 camera (Hewlett Packard) 14 months ago. I have had issues with it locking up which was annoying. Then yesterday I got a red screen and an error message. After researching, contacting HP and visiting discussion boards, I discovered it was a hardware failure. It will cost me around $150+ to fix it, and HP thinks I should pay that after spending $250+ for the camera. Fourteen (14) months is NOT a reasonable amount of time to not make HP liable for the junk they are manufacturing in China. It is clearly a manufacturing defect.

I should not have to pay HP for their sub-standard manufacturing. The product should be recalled because others have experienced the same problem. So, I am stuck with a slick, feature-rich piece of trash. It won't even power on. The only thing HP is offering is to have me pay them to repair their defect. This is outrageous. This is not good business..at all.

I purchased a Hewlett-Packard E317 Digital Camera on 5/25/06. It arrived at my home on 6/02/06. The camera stopped working on 5/23/06 but I was out of town and did not have my paper work with me to give them a call. When I called on 5/28/06 I was advised the 90 day warranty had expired but that I could purchase an upgrade or replacement (refurbished) for X amount if I mailed my camera in since it would do me no good since it was a internal problem. I think this is an appalling practice I will never buy another HP product. Think twice before you do, and do buy the extended warranty, as it is very suspicious for it to malfunction right when the 90 days are up!

We purchased a hp735 camera on 4/2/04 and on 5/21/06 we bought the protection plan warranty good until 5/31/07. On 7/21/06 we took the camera to the sears repair center where it states to go on the certificate but the man there said sears stop doing in house repairs on cameras except sony and we need to call Hewlett Packard. We called HP and they asked for the serial # which would be located on the bottom of the camera. We read the numbers to him that were on there Q2210A and the regulatory moedel #GRLYB-0210 and some other number E-C021-03-1022(B) AND THEN 211417. Well, he said none of those numbers are the serial number and he can't help us with out that number and that's it. I needed to call Sears back because they would have that number.

I called back to Sears and was hung up on three times for some apperant reason, finally I got somone to answer and was transfered 5 times, twice to warranty dept., twice to cancelation dept. and once to parts dept. I was on the phone for just over an hour for this whole ordeal and not even getting anywhere except more upset and I asked what was going on and why am I not able to get my camera fixed when I purchased the warranty and why is no one willing to help me! I told them to cancel the warranty and give me back the money since obviuosly I could not use it because there was not a serial number on the camera that he said should be there. He finally said they would prorate the warranty and gave us back $33.13 and the warranty was $36.14. So, we paid them for all this inconvienance we went through and still no fixed camera! We are so upset that out of all the extended warranties we have purchased and the one time we go to use it we get this kind of treatment!

I had to return the third M407 camera (the first two having been replaced under warranty) because it started to fail in the exact same way my previous camera did (the first one never worked at all).

The last camera failed during a trip to Australia and I lost a number of good photos before I was able to buy a $20 disposable camera. I am not willing to take that chance again. I will not request yet another replacement camera from HP. I am requesting that since the design is clearly defective – demonstrated by the identical failure of multiple versions of the same model camera – that they refund the purchase price of this camera.

I realize that my warranty does not entitle me to demand a refund but I am requesting it. I have already purchased a replacement camera (not an HP).

On June 18, 2004 I purchased a HP Photosmart 945 Digital Camera for $449.99+tax; with camera dock and batteries, the total came to $595.34. On March 8,2006, I contacted HP's real-time chat line regarding the malfunction of the camera.

I informed him the image in the viewfinder & LCD screen is blurred and has horizontal lines running in the image- I am unable to read image. When images are downloaded to my computer, the same blurred images are downloaded. I was informed that the issue was being forwarded to the Quality Department and I would receive a response in 48 hours that I did NOT receive.

On March 11, 2006, I e-mailed a message to HP's CEO (supposedly President Mark Hurd's Quality case manager's service) to inform HP of the lack of a response to my inquiry. I informed this service that I have had this camera less than two years; there was a one year warranty on the camera; I was informed that there is no service option for this camera, and furthermore, if I took the camera to an independent repair service, HP would be contacted regarding this issue.

I also explained that I would pay for the repair.I also stated that I do expect a camera that is less than two years old to function properly; then to be informed it is not able to be repaired even when I would pay for the repair. (I have a Nikon FM SLR that I purchased in 1982 and have never had any repair issues). On March 14, 2006, I spoke on the telephone to "Anthony". (He had left a message on my answering machine on March 13th)and was again informed that there is no service option on this camera and could not be repaired.

I was offered the option of replacement of a REFURB HP817 camera at $212.00 or a REFURB R707 at $225.00. Since I paid almost $600.00 total for the HP Photosmart 945 camera and accesories, with no option for repair, I cannot understand the logic to "buy" another HP REFURBISHED camera (not a new camera)from Hewlett Packard.

I purchased the HP Photosmart 318 Digital camera through Dell Computers when I ordered my computer 5-17-02. The camera worked on and off for a few months. Less then 20 pictures were ever taken. I called HP Support for help 9-25-03 because the camera was giving me an Error 108 and I could not find the code in the HP User Guide or at HP's web site. I was given a case number, 927303870397, and told to fax all information to HP (800-563-4860) which I did (9-28-03,1-30-2004 and 2-9-04). I never received a reply.
I then sent a complaint to HP's web-site 6-21-2004, and was told that Error 108 means the camera cannot be fixed and is useless. They were willing to "upgrade" my camera for a new one for X amount of dollars, depending on the camera I chose. I e-mailed back that since my camera can't be fixed and was obviously defective, I would like HP to replace it. I was told a supervisor would be calling me in 3 days to discuss this issue and no one ever called. I e-mailed HP Total Care asking why, and they assured me someone would call.

It's been 8 days more, and I'm not willing to put this off any longer. They never responded to my faxes, so I can only assume they are putting me off once again.

Purchased a photo printer and digital camera, filed all necessary paperwork for the promised $75.00 rebate, received notification that items were missing from thier rebate processor and rebate was denied. I file approximately 20-30 rebate items per year for computer and software-related items, I know that attention to detail and to follow directions explicitly is necessary. This is the first time I was ever denied a rebate. I do not recommend nor encourage any one that I consult with to purchase any HP Product nor will I ever again.

I bought an all-in-one printer-scanner 1300-series which the sales clerk told me there was a rebate on them. I sent in all the Papers and upc codes they wanted. I paid $148.88. I received a note from HP saying they could not give me my rebate. I called HP and they said that I was not entitled to the refund cause I had to pay $149.00 for it. I am a senior citizin living on a very tight budget. I certainly could afford to pay 12 cents more to get my rebate. The sales clerk told me when I was looking at other printers that I would save money in the long run because of the rebate.

I also bought an HP camera that day for $147.62 and an HP camera dock for $77.87, and they want to beat me out of my rebate over being 12 cents short? I have always bought HP pouducts and encouraged my family and friends to do so but believe me I will let them know to read the rebates VERY CLOSELY. I will not be buying any other Hewlett-Packard Products again.
