Benson Cadillac

Marshall of Greenville, SC October 10, 2009

My 2001 Deville was loosing oil so I brought it in were I bought it at Benson Cadillac. I wanted it checked out before I went over 100,000 miles because I had a bumper to bumper warranty. They told me all North Star motors do that and they could not do anything about it.

I ran into a mechanic that had over 10 years with Cadillac and he checked my car out and said, no way can it use that much oil and that it was internal. He said the dealers will do that a lot especially if they don't have a mechanic to fix it; it's a very big expensive job. I bought a Cadillac because I was hoping to get good customer service, what a joke. What can I do now? My North Star motor leaks about one quart of oil per week, I drive 30 miles to work each day, one way.

Joseph of Matthews, NC March 19, 2007

On October 31, 2006 I purchased a pre owned 2003 Nissan 350z from Benson Cadillac Nissan. The car had just under 20,000 miles on it. I was told a number of times, read on the internet, and it was stated on some papers that the car went through an extensive 160 point inspection. As you will read from the problems I have recently had, it is obvious that the car did not actual go through the 160 point inspection. I was just told that it did.

A few weeks ago I noticed that I had a little oil leak. When I realized that it was coming from my newly purchased car, I decided to take it to East Charlotte Nissan to get serviced. When I bought the car I paid an extra $1,600 to have the car certified so that if I ever did experience any problems I could take it to any Nissan dealership. When the service manager at East Charlotte brought me back to look at my car to show me what was wrong before the did any work I was assuming that it was just going to be the oil leak. But was I in for a surprise. The service manager had a whole list of things that were wrong.

First, the front brake pads were worn down almost as far as they could go. I was told they were over 75% worn. A former Nissan service manager told me that if the brake pads were over 52% worn at the time of the inspection then they must be replaced. It is obvious that Benson Cadillac Nissan either failed to address this situation during the 160 point inspection or they just did not do the inspection like they have stated. I was told by a number of people that there is no way possible I could have worn my brakes down that much in less than three months of driving.

Next, I was shown the front drive belts. They were cracked and worn badly. Again I was told that there was no possible way that the belts should be worn that badly after less than three months of driving. Once again Benson either failed to fix the problem or lied about checking it. If it really did go through the 160 point inspection the problem should have been noticed and fixed.

After that I was shown the right rear tire. It was bald down almost as far as it could go on the inside part of the tire where I could not see it. Before I purchased the car we noticed that the two front tires where worn down and needed to be replaced. If I had known the right rear tire was the same I would have requested that to be replaced also. But since it was where I could not see I trusted Benson and their 160 point inspection. Again I was told that the tire should and would not get like this in less than three months of driving. Once again Benson failed to fix the problem so they could save a buck and put my life in danger or they just did not check it at all.

Finally I was shown why I had the oil leak. I was told that the oil filter was put on incorrectly by the workers at Benson. They screwed it on too tight which caused it to expand, thus the oil leak.
