Saturn Aura

Consumer Complaints & Reviews

I was told that the steering on my wife's 2008 Saturn Aura could not be fixed. The steering has been reset (2) two times in the last 20000 miles and they said that I would have to keep having it reset because there is no part to be changed to correct the problem. Personally I think someone is nuts. With my experience on vehicles it is my opinion that electronic steering has parts that will go bad and need to be changed. I would appreciate something being done to correct the problem other than a person telling me that I have to spend $65.00 every 20000 miles to have the steering reset. This is not acceptable and I will not tolerate it. To start with the vehicle is still under the extended warranty and I should have to pay nothing to have a problem fixed that was under warranty the first time I brought the car in.

I have a 2008 Saturn Aura. The car is ok except I have one tire that seems to have a slow leak. It slowly looses pressure. It has been ongoing since I got the car. I have stopped numerous times to fill the tire with air and have had it to the dealership several times and they keep telling me there is nothing wrong with it. It's not my imagination that the pressure drops to 22lbs. Is seems to happen about 2 lbs at a time. I think it's the electronic tire part that is causing the leak. I can't be the first and they must have some idea what it is but they refuse to fix it.

I cannot wait till this lease is up - cause I'm turning the car in and going back to Toyota. Against my better judgement I bought a GM because my father is a GM retiree. Never again! I've had this car in more in the last year than I had my Toyota in for service, in 4 years. This is a simple problem, easily handled. Either change the valve or put a new tire on. Happy Customer....but no they have driven me away for good.

I was in a collision with my 2007 Saturn Aura. I rear ended someone on the freeway going about 40 miles per hour. My air bags never deployed. I broke my nose on the steering wheel as a result. Also upon impact my car burst into fire. I was able to get out of the car and get to the side of road but stood there helplessly watching my car burn until a fire truck arrived.

Here is the kicker... I was the only injured person. The person I hit was able to drive his car home. My car is now a total loss. When the fireman showed up he said that an impact like that should NEVER have caught fire and he was shocked the airbags did not deploy. I am not sure what to do next... I thought my car was supposed to be 5 star safety rated?

I am now anxious when I have to drive... I have to go buy a new car and I am not sure yet if my car insurance will give me enough money to pay off what I owe on the Saturn. If the car had not burnt, it could have been repaired. This is so scary to me because what if I had been knocked unconcious since there was no airbag?

My husband and I decided to purchase a new 2007 Saturn Aura, 300miles. We opted for a new car with warranty as our previous car was having transmission troubles which were out of our budget. Thinking nothing would really go wrong but the warranty allowed us the security if something were to go wrong.

About 8 months after having the car I noticed the car would not shift easily into reverse. I took the car to Saturn they could not duplicate my concerns. The problem continued and I was told over the phone by service dept the car had to be allowed proper time to warm up (in June in the South). They further stated this could take up to 20 mins (lest we forget the cost of gas on an idling car).

One morning my car would not back out of the driveway, I contacted Saturn service dept. They told me that I could have the car towed to them but they would only reimburse if they could validate my claim. I opted not to have my car towed. After a couple of other wasted trips to the dealership I was irate.

Finally after multiple attempts to schedule appts with Saturn that would include leaving the car overnite, they would only permit a rental if they had to keep the car for an extended period although I explained my husband & I both work and the dealership was nearly 2hrs away.

Finally my husband took time off to take the car to the dealership, explained what was going on and demanded a rental. The service dept was going to call ASAP to update us. Well we ended up calling to find out they FINALLY observed the problem but did not know what was causing it. Saturn HQ was contacted for a 'plan of action'. On our follow up call for a status we were notified that something may be wrong with the transmission but they did not know what. Guess they don't know what's wrong with their cars either. I'm still waiting for answers.

We purchased a 2008 Saturn Aura in February of this year. The first couple of months were fine. Then the brakes began to squell all the time. Took the car in several times and was told since the car was new, the brakes needed to seed in. After a month, I could take it no more and took the car in. They found glaze on the rotors and resurfaced them. It was alright for about a month, then the problem started again. I called Saturn headquarters and explained the problem before I took the car in. They said they would follow up.

When i took the car in with just five thousand miles on it, I was told that being I live in the Pacific Northwest, the weather is different here, and my car was just one in a thousand that this problem would happen with. I was told there was nothing they could do about it and that when I get in the car to pump the brakes a few times. I asked if I would have to do this for the whole time I own this car and was told yes. That there was nothing they could do because it was not a manufactoring problem.

I know people who have bought the same car and they are not having this problem. I will probably have this car for a few years and this is what I have to do for now. I was also told by the company that there was nothing they could do either. I feel a big let down by Saturn. This was my first new car and its still under warranty and will not do anything to help remedy the problem.

I feel that i was sold a lemon and they could care less. At this time with the economy the way it is, I do not like just throwing money away. I feel that Saturn is out just to make a profit. I'm telling everyone I know that is even considering buying a Saturn DON't. Yes the car is nice to look at, but when there is a problem, you are on your own.

I purchased a brand new 2007 Saturn Aura Hybrid last August. Last Friday (8/1/08) I went to my local engine servicing shop because I heard some pings and wanted an oil change they said to take the car back to saturn as the A/c compressor or belt might be going and should be under warranty. They also stated that they recently had a consumer in with a HHR which has the same engine as the Aura and he too was past the warranty and had to pay the $1000 bucks to fix his car .

I called Saturn of Lowell but their phone lines were down but took the car in for service (today) Monday. The car is past the 36,000 mile bumper to bumper. However was just in the shop three weeks go for a recall on the hybrid battery. I was told by saturn of Lowell that the tension cord snapped and caused damage to the CV joint causing $1000 worth of damage.

I called the saturn customer assistance last Friday to log a compliant as I really felt Saturn should be able to stand behind their products that are not even a year old and to see if there was another recall. Basically I was told I would have to pay for everything and there was nothing they could do because it was past the warranty and I hadnt serviced at their costly service centers.

This is my second GM product (SAAB)in the past few years to have reliability problems immediately except their warranty was better knowing they had poor reliability. I would really like to warn consumers of the poor reliability and costly fixes on GM's poorly designed and manufactured products. Please help me in getting that message out so others don't encounter the frustration I have had.

Shortly after purchase in January 2007, I noticed a gap bewteen the uni-body and the lower body molding that runs under the doors (both sides). the gap appears about in-line the front/rear door, verticle support beam and varies in width from as little as 1/8 to about 3/8' and clearly exposes on the white retention clips which holds the molding to the body.

When I first brought this to the attention of the dealership, they thought it might be a broken retention clip, but upon closer examination they determined the clip had broken lose from the molding, not the uni-body so they order new moldings. The moldings arrive primed only, so the car and moldings had to go to a body shop for paint match. After a week of trying to get a proper fit of the molding to the uni-body, the body shop came back and reported the the uni-body is indented at the widest point of the gap and if you run your finger along the uni-body you can feel the indentation.

Saturn said there was nothing more they could do with it so I filed a complaint with Saturn Customer Assistance. their representative came back and acknowledged a problem with the Aura and offered four free oil changes as compensation for bringing it to their attention. I replied that this wasn't good enough, I wanted my car fixed and fixed right or reimbursed for the cost of doing it myself. Saturn refused to do anything more because it wasn't a safety or comfort issue. This is Saturn's 2007 Car of the Year and they won't stand behind their quality or workmanship.
