DaimlerChrysler recently recalled certain Dodge Ram trucks because a wiring defect in the steering column could start a fire. Guess what? The recall came too late for Tanya of Sylacauga, AL, and it certainly doesn't sound like the dealer did much to help. Tanya writes:

Our truck ignition caught on fire and caused our truck to stop running. It also stoped our power windows, air, melted our cover on the steering column and burned our starter up. We carried it to the local dealer to have it repaired and they said the ignition switch and steering column wiring had been recalled two weeks before.

So we left it to be repaired one week ago and today I called they said it was ready so I went to get it. To my suprise it would not crank, the windows won't work, the air won't work and the cover on the steering column is still melted. Mike at Rally Motors said he was not going to fix it and if I left it it would be daily storage on our truck.

Tanya should report this to DaimlerChrysler customer service. It will be interesting to see if DaimlerChrysler cares enough to respond in any meaningful fashion.
