Ted of Toms River NJ (04/04/07) Being a senior on a fixed income, $2,400 was alot to pay but I had no choice. When the work was done, the radio would not work and I was told to put in the code that came with my paperwork when I purchased the car. I could not find it so Ocean Chevy said for $90 they would give me the code. I again called GM and they in turn called Ocean Chevy and got the cost down to $45, WHAT A BARGAIN! This code is on my paperwork at the dealer but they could not just give it to me, they had to make some money for it. To make matters worse, I received a letter back in November stating that there was a problem with the gas caps and if the engine light came on, they would repair it at no charge. Well, guess what, the light came on and my mechanic looked at it and said he wasn't sure where the problem was, but somewhere around the gas cap. Went back to Ocean Chevy, showed him the letter, the engine light, and what the mechanic said. Right off the bat, Ocean Chevy said it would be $95 to find out what was wrong and if it was the gas cap, they would give me a new one for free, but I still would have to pay the $95 to find out. This Aveo has caused me more problems and cost me more money than an expensive car. GM really does not stand behind their products and could not care less that a senior, who purchased a new car in good faith, get ripped off everytime he turns around. If anything else goes wrong with this car, I cannot afford to get it fixed. Ocean Chevy are money hungry sneaky people who prey on seniors. I really want to take this further and publisize what they do to this mostly senior community. David of Trenton NJ (03/19/07) After they explained the Smart Buy and said that was the way to go, we assumed that this was what we doing. The way they explained it was that it was a Smart Buy. I was totally confused and told them so. They said the difference was that with a Smart Buy, the vehicle would be registered in my husbands name and that we could sell the vehicle anytime we wanted to. When we went back to pick up the plates, the registration was not in my husbands name, but vault. We told them that this was wrong and that is when we found out that this was a lease. At that eime, they changed their story again and said the difference between a Smart Buy and a lease was the interest rate. We traded in a 2003 Nissan Maxima GLE. In the beginning, I said that we didn't want to do anything that, since I wanted to see if my son-in-law would hold it for a week and sell it to him for the price they gave us. We agreed to do, again putting our trust in them, and they didn't hold it for the week. That is still not the end. The vehicle didn't have and MSRP window sticker. They told us there's no way that they can get one, but when I called General Motors, they said that Ocean Chevrolet would be calling us and getting us a window sticker. They never called and we still don't have the sticker or at least a copy of it. Since we don't have the MSRP sticker, we don't know if the price on the contract is really the price of the vehicle. The manual was not in the vehicle either. They said that the salesman would go over the features of the vehicle, but when it came time to do that, he wasn't around to do that. They did get us anew manual. The salesman we dealt with told us that he worked from 9am-9pm six days a week. When I called, they said that he was off on Wednesdays and when we went down on Thrusday, we were told he didn't come in until 1pm on Thursdays. It seems to us, that they don't know the truth from a lie. At the end of this lease, we will have nothing. We were told that the trade-in price from our original vehicle would follow and since we were under the impression that we were buying this vehicle, it made sense. It is now the 19th of March and we still haven't received the window sticker. My husband spoke to the general manager last week and he said he would have sent right away. When my husband spoke to the general manager last week, he told him to bring the survey down and they would go over it with us. I can't believe that they would think for one minute that we would give them a good survey. This must be very important to them, since we were told that three times. They said they would give us a $50. gift certificate and one of the salesmen said he would have some surprise gifts when we came down. I called the general manager today and he told me the same thing that he told my husband last week. Apparently, he didn't even follow up to make sure this was done last week. I'm inclined to believe that no one that works at Ocean Chevrolet know the difference between the truth and a lie. Our next step is to seek legal action. Of course, we will never again do business with Ocean Chevrolet & Jeep in Toms River, NJ and will never recommend them to anyone. In our opinion, OCEAN CHEVROLET & JEEP IS A VERY HIGH PRESSURED DEALERSHIP. Again, I understand that most of this is our fault for HAVING TRUST in what they told us. We have bought many new cars and have leased 3, but have never dealt with any dealership SO UNETHICAL in our life. Chris of Toms River NJ (02/08/07) I have been stuck in my car for almost a year waiting for the lawyers. Ocean Chevy refuses to deal with the issue. Bryan of Toms River NJ (07/31/05) the next oil change they told me I had a serious problem with the back brakes(the rotors were rotton)They then told me because the truck was now out of warranty they would not fix them,(by about 15 days)I fought with ocean chevy and gm in detroit that ocean chevy should have replaced all the brakes when they saw the fronts rotting out but they said that it wasnt thier problem,I had to get the brakes done at my cost as Ocean Chevy and gm had cared enough to fix the piece of crap they sold me. Not to mention that when I paid this vehice off the title stated that this 1999 s-10 crew cab pickup was only an extended can truck therefore providing me with a false document. Rebecca of Toms River NJ (09/14/04) Then one year later things started going wrong with our jeep they have all kinds of excuses we ended up having a rental car for two weeks for one day of work they said it was all the gears in front end to having only a u joint that needed to be replaced, not only do they falseify information they, are shady as well. Pat of Toms River (6/18/02):
We heard a commercial on the radio from you guys saying you would take and pay off all leases in full. So out of COMPLETE TRUST, we came in on a Saturday to see what you could do for us. We were led into leasing a Jeep. So many of your guys came after us, we felt swamped. To make a long story short, we wound up trading in our 1991 Jeep we had, the Monte and the first month payment of over $500. The worst part was we did the first thing a sucker does before he becomes a fool - WE SIGNED WITH OUT READING! We could have lived with the new payment being $200.00 more a month then the Monte, the insurance going up a year, the loss of our 1991 trade-in Jeep, but to add insult to injury, we received a bill from GMAC for over $3,000.00! We cannot afford this. We will lose our Jeep, and good credit Robert of Tom's River writes:
Now I will jump ahead to today. The car currently has 60,000 or so on it. The head gasket is blown again and as a result of the head gasket leaking directly into it, one of the ignition coils that has blown also. I returned to Ocean Chevy and they told me that they could not help me since the 12,000 mile warranty on the head gasket (which I never even knew about) was over they could not help me. I went home and called General Motors and applied for their Good will service and was denied due to mileage. I believe that I am being taken for a ride. First of all the car was not built correctly in the factory or the heaad gasket would not have blown after 34,000 miles. Secondly they obviously did not fix the car correctly or the head gasket would not have blown at 60,000 miles causing other problems that will cost me even more money. Because of this, I have not been able to have or get a job since I have not had the money to fix the car. The repair will cost around $1,200 to take care of everything. It has now been about two months that this has been going on and I have never been out of work for this long in my life. I have slipped into a slight depression to where i just do not want to go out and to anything anymore. I never realized how hard it is being out of work. Hopefully things will begin to turn around soon so I can get back on my feet. Report Your Experience
