Daniel of Oak Ridge, TN, writes:
We met with salesperson to agree on a price for a 2001 Honda Accord. We would not give out any credit information until we reached an agreement upon price. When we did agree on a price with the salesperson, we gave out our credit information and began filling out all the paperwork including SIGNING A CONTRACT. We signed the contract and gave out our credit information and filled out all papers INCLUDING transferring the tag from our trade-in to the new vehicle.

All of a sudden our salesman was called to the Finance Manager's office and came back and told us we had to speak with him. He informed us they "could not sell the car for that price" BUT he could lease us a car for a price we could afford. This was a trick by their finance manager to get the credit information and see if we would qualify for a lease. They had no intention of selling the car for that price, just to get a look at our credit information and try to get us to lease a vehicle.

We will not trade with this dealership or allow anyone we know to trade with this dealership. They tricked us into believing we had a signed contract for the car and then got to look at our credit information to see if they could talk us into leasing a vehicle.

Daniel should get a medal. It's very hard to withstand the tricks dealers play. He stuck to his guns and saved himself from being stuck in a lease. Auto leases are nearly always a bad deal for the consumer and should be avoided at all costs.
