Consumer Complaints & Reviews

From sales to service, I would never go back. You think you're a great negotiator? They will wear you down & keep your for hours & they are sly & shady. They will not give you a decent deal for your trade-in & they are too aggressive. You will be getting phone calls several times a week. Even when you tell them to take you off their list, just a couple of months after leasing my vehicle, they were calling me to see if I'm in the market for another car! Seriously? Then they go back on their word.

The management quoted me a price for a remote car stater which was too high. I did talk them down to $299; then they gave me the person's name to call & ext when I was ready. When I called, they had no record of it & now they want to charge over $400! Are you kidding me? They only cost around $135 anywhere else. I cant' stand them & will tell everyone never to go there. This is my 1st Toyota. For 30 yrs, I've been a Chevy fan. I might go back to Chevy just because they aggravated me that much.

In May of 2011 my husband and I went to Toyota Universe to look into a new lease since our 2009 Camry lease was ending in the end of July. We had gotten our 2009 Camry from Toyota Universe, so we thought to go back to them for our new lease. I first spoke to a salesman and we had discussed a price for the new lease with no money down except for the first month's payment. When my husband and I came together we expected to get the deal I had discussed with the salesman. He wasn't working that night and his desk was locked, so we first waited almost an hour and then a different salesman came and acted as if he couldn't give us that deal and was starting negotiations from scratch.

They didn't tell us before we had waited that we would be starting from square one since that first salesman was not there. We didn't have the time to wait there and we felt mislead. When my husband got upset at them they threw us out of the dealership. They asked us to leave and said they didn't want our business! What kind of service is that? Who treats their customers like that? Isn't it true that the customer is always right? We were interested in leasing from them until that experience. We will never lease or buy from them again!

They charged too much for diagnosis, labor and parts. Air fuel sensor was replaced and the charged me $560.

I recently made a complaint on April 29,2011 and this is a follow-up. I have had my Rav 4 now for almost 30 days. I continued to call the dealership to inquire about my registration. I have had a signed contract since 4/21/2011 and I am now being asked to come in and sign another contract because when I was given the vehicle, it was a binding deal. I can't imagine what this new contract will even say. There are (3) elements that constitute a binding contract.

They are offer, consideration, and acceptance. The moment the dealer signed the agreement, they bound the contract. They have already paid the previous bank for my vehicle which I traded in so I no longer have a contract with the former bank. Do they have a right to continuously do this to the public? This is an outrage. Each dealer has a DMV on their site and it does not take 30 days to get your new registration. What are my rights? And 30 days later, I am being told that another contract needs to be signed. Please advise on my rights.

I responded to the Toyota website, looking for a car. Several dealers in my area also responded, as well as this one which is way outside my area! I told a couple of their people who called my office phone (and I never requested they call me) that I don't live anywhere near them. Over the past several months, their automated dialer has called my office phone repeatedly--annoying calls and voice mail. I tried reaching the general manager, but they kept giving me a different name, so he may not even exist. As it's my office phone, there is no way I can block those annoying calls. Please help!

April 21, I went to the dealership with my 2004 Highlander. I was told I got approved for credit through Toyota Financial Serv. I was not told how much. I owed $12,600.00 on my Highlander. They gave me $12,000.00 on my existing vehicle and carrying the balance of $700.00 onto the car I have now which is a 2008 RAV 4. Both the salesman and the manager told me and my husband that the bank has inventory on all vehicles and I was only approved on 3 specific ones and the one I was given is the 2008 RAV. I contacted the Bank that will be financing me and they confirmed that all they do is approved an amount based on my credit history. I contacted my salesman and informed him I do not appreciate being lied to or mislead and stated this is what my manager told me.

The problem I have is I was looking a new car. They told me I can't go into a new car since the bank only approved me for three (3) specific cars. I think this is deception to play around with individual's line of credit. By the time this vehicle is paid off, it will be $37,990.00. Can they do this to me? It should have been my right to select a car suitable for me needs based on what the bank approved me for they never gave me this option. I had to do this research after the fact. As of today 4/29/2011, they still have not paid my note off to my prior bank for my 2004 Highlander and that vehicle is no where on their lot . My loan amount I was approved for was in the amount of $22,065.56. They told me I could only get into the 2008 RAV 4 which was $18,890.00. Please advise me of my rights in this situation.

We leased a Rav 4 in 2006 because our jeep had malfunctions. Mr ******** said it wasn't safe to drive it and a Rav would be better, but would be high because we would have to pay two vehicles. So he suggested leasing. I said leasing is not a good option due to the mileage back and forth to work, but he assured me it would be no big deal and won't count towards us when we return the lease. At the end of our lease we wanted to buy out the car and was told we couldn't unless we paid 5000.00. or return the lease and pay 6000.00 for over mileage. I ended up buying a used Rav 4, with blown out speakers that they said they would replace. It's been a month now and speakers are still not replaced. We got a bill for over 6000.00 for mileage. Shame on these people for cheating on hard working people who trust and believe in them! I'm still waiting for my speakers and will not buy or have my friends buy from there ever again.

Multiple calls looking for someone that does not live at this phone number. I have asked multiple times to have my number removed from their system and yet I continue to get 2-3 calls a week.

On June 30, 2010, we went into Toyota Universe on 1485 RT 46 in Little Falls, NJ looking to lease a new car. We were assisted by a new sales person by the name of Peter **. We test drove a new vehicle of our interest, spoke about terms with him as well as his manager, Max **. Max reviewed all information as well as credit report with us. Moments later, Max came back and advised us that we were approved for a lease with $** a month for 36 months and $600 down, which included the first month payment of vehicle. We then proceeded with a loan officer by the name of Shaun ** and finalized all paperwork needed. We added insurance on the vehicle, and they all urged us to take the car home that night.

On July 7, 2010, we received a call from the loan officer, Shaun, stating that bank saw a bankruptcy filing on my credit report so I educated Shaun that my mother with the same name has filed bankruptcy, not I. The next day, Peter ** called, requesting a letter confirmation that bankruptcy is under my mother's name, not mine, from the attorney. Once I got the documents, I sent a fax confirming the bankruptcy information. That same day, I received a call from Peter stating that they received fax and that the bankruptcy issue with the bank was resolved. But that car needed to be returned because the dealership overlooked the price of the car and the car was undersold to us. I advised Peter to give a call within an hour so I can communicate with Ruben and get more understanding of situation.

No later than 15 minutes, Mr. Shaun **, the loan officer who worked out our contract, called me and demanded that the car to be returned. He specifically stated that the car was undersold for $3,000 and that the owner wasn't going to take the loss. When I tried to explain my defense, Shaun interrupted and basically blackmailed me so they won't proceed with the approval until we agree to another vehicle that doesn't include the additional items our vehicle has (rims and DVD player).

He attempted to persuade us in lower payments with another same model vehicle. He wouldn't allow me to speak in our defense. He continued to say that we tried to get over on a salesperson because he was new, when we, as customers and first time buyers, do not have the knowledge of car's pricing. Then, he called us thieves stating that he will be cancelling the temporary plates on the car and would report the car as stolen.

Within a few days, we reviewed our contract and paperwork, as well as consulted advice from colleagues and lawyer that is willing to represent our case. On July 13, 2010, Ruben received calls from Shaun with threats and demands of car being returned. Shaun stated that the bank loan was approved but he wouldn't get it approved because we didn't comply with his demands. Ruben requested written letters to be sent to us, as well as harassment calls suppressed. Shaun stated that he wasn't sending anything in writing, he was giving us a verbal request and that he was going to get the car repossessed. He also made statements like, "Bring me back my car, you are acting ludicrous!"

In conclusion, we want to file a legal complaint against Toyota Inc, Toyota Universe, and also Shaun **. We have our contract and paperwork signed. We have copies of bankruptcy information, copies of my credit report not showing bankruptcy listed, phone bill with time and dates that we have been called from the dealership. Toyota has discriminated, blackmailed, and disrespected us as humans and we are willing to take all additional steps to have this matter escalated to the highest point possible.

These guys sold me a car which was dripping gasoline onto the motor. I only found out when I took it to a mechanic to find out about the weird smell and have the AC recharged. When I tried to call them, they told me that since I didn't fix this emergency condition with them and the car was "as-is", they wouldn't compensate me in any way. The mechanic told me that my wife and I could have died; apparently, the only reason I discovered the problem was because it was hot outside.

Don't buy anything from these guys, it could be the last thing you ever do!

There were 5 separate incidents within a month's time at Toyota Universe. A dome light in the interior of my 2010 Prius is hanging down. I was told to bring it in for them to take a look.

1) First, I came in and the mechanic there suggested to push the light back into place and that should do it. Logically, I waited 15 minutes for it to fall back down since anyone could have done that before coming in to seek further help. Once it fell down again, he had no idea what to do and told me to come back tomorrow to talk to a Prius specialist, since "this car is different than regular cars and he didn't want to get electrocuted if he did anything."

2) I came in and spoke to Ron, a manager I believe, who looked at the problem and said that the person who looked at my car yesterday was "an idiot" who should have just realized it is a cosmetic problem. After hearing him complain about the same worker, he took my car in to the mechanics as it just needed some glue to fix. After waiting 30 minutes, he said it was still falling off and they needed stronger glue, which would take 6 hours to dry. He told me to come back Tuesday to drop it off.

3) I came back on Tuesday and dropped off the car with Ron. I got a call back later in the day from him saying something else is wrong. They needed to order a specific part to fix the car, some type of clip for the light. He said to come back next Monday when the part comes in. Another wasted trip, more wasted time dealing with them.

4) Before I came back on Monday, I made several calls to Toyota Universe to ensure the part is in stock and I am not just driving there for nothing again. For the next 3 days I am bounced around to different people as nobody knows what I am talking about. My file wasn't even in their database. I was promised call backs from 2 separate people and never got called back. Ron was out for the week and apparently ordered nothing. After complaining to them over and over again, I am finally forced to go back in again for them to take a look at it. A different manager, Mike I believe, looked at the problem and looked up my info. "They did absolutely nothing" were his words when he looked up my case. Nothing was done the previous 3 times I came in. After waiting close to 3 hours to fix a simple light problem, it was finally done and I left.

5) A week later, I notice my car had reached 3000 miles. The sticker on my car says to bring it in when I reach 3000 miles for an oil change. I called to make an appointment, and the man on the phone says typically it is 5000 for an oil change, but since the sticker says 3000 bring it in now. I showed up and the older gentleman said it was too early, and to come back when its 5000. I showed him the sticker and he says it's supposed to be 5000. The wait was 2 hours if I wanted to do it now. I complained about the man I talked to on the phone, telling me to bring it in now, and he just keeps telling me to wait. I finally left; fed up with this entire place. Not once did anyone there ever apologize for wasting my time.

It is 10.3 miles from my house to Toyota Universe. With these 5 incidents, removing the one instance they actually helped me, driving back and forth I wasted about 85 miles. I would like that deducted from the miles on the lease when I return the car. Please contact me to discuss actions I should take.

In 2005, I purchased a new Toyota Sienna AWD mini van at the dealership. At 30K miles, the transmission went on the van. Toyota Universe fixed the problem. Four months later, having only a routine oil change, the front differential leaked oil causing it to seize and damage the transmission. Toyota Universe service manager Joe said it was my problem that the differential leaked, not his. And the dealership would not fix the problem. The Sienna which now has 40K miles had the following issues: 3 sets of brakes, 2 sets of roaters, and 3 sets of tires (including those run-flat tires, which on the third set I had to put regular 17-inch tires). I would not recommend Toyota Universe for anything. They will give you nothing but grief.

I bought a certified used car form Toyota Universe this winter 2009. Five months later, when I first turned on the AC, it started leaking inside the car. Even though I had purchased the extended platinum warranty, this was not covered because they claim its part of regular maintenance. This is ridiculous since I've only had the car long enough to have a single routine maintenance done. It seems to me that this is something that should have been taken care of initially as a certified car. Also, the car was given to me without floor mats and I was promised a check to cover for that which I'm still waiting for, even though I've called them about this numerous times.

This dealer is crap and obviously could care less about keeping and servicing their customers. Stay as far away as you can even if they promise you a great deal. They're not the kind to be trusted or worthy of your time and money.

I went to the dealership to lease a new 2010 Corolla. After having the car for a day, I experienced some problems with the steering, brakes, and turning the car. I went to service the next day and they found an alignment problem. Not even driving the car for 2 days after taking it to service, I still had a problem with the brakes and turning the car.

I ended up going to service about 4 times and missing work. After all of that, they finally told me that there was nothing wrong with the car and it was just how I drove the car. I know for a fact that there is something wrong with the car after test driving the car with one of there mechanics.

I finally spoke to the Accountant manager who was trying to help me in any way but then was overruled by the sales manager who was very rude. I agreed to drive another of their Corolla's and found an identical problem, which is steering the car. The sales manager then demanded that we pay $7,000 to get out of the lease and I could choose another car.

I ask why so much and his reason was that I did not like the car and there were no problems with it to begin with. I then told him that I was almost involved in 2 possible accidents and if I didn't like the car, I would not have chose it in the first place. Again, he aggressively demanded that I would have to pay and kept changing my words to "I did not like the car" and forcefully make me try to believe that was the case. He then left the table and gave me his card.

With all of that occurring, he created a whole scene and made me feel uncomfortable and assaulted verbally. I am thinking of suing them for asking me for money to fix a problem with a new 2010 Corolla. I'm trying to find a phone number to contact the sales manager's boss for his unprofessional and rude behavior in conducting business.

I took my 2005 Toyota Sienna to the above dealer and was told by the technician that they have to change my transmission at zero cost to me because it's under warranty. At that time, my mileage was 57,178. He told me that I would need to the 60,000 mi maintenance which would include rotating the tires that was purchased from the dealer. When I picked up the car on Tuesday, the front driver side tire was low in air. I went inside to request a manager. The manager on that day was Paul, who took the car to get checked by another tech. They both then came back to me and said nothing was wrong with the car and it was safe to drive.

Wednesday morning of the same week, I started my van and I had two lights on, one was check engine and the other was VSC and the car pulled to the left side. I then took it back to the dealer and the tech and Raul came back to me and said that the tire is hazardous and should not be driven as per the tech. Raul said that he took down the info and said that he needed to do a claim and that he will contact me. And up until today, I am still driving with a hazardous tire with two little children under warranty. Now, what should I do? I have all of my paper work and all of my receipts.

I went to the toyota dealer after seeing a 2003 chevy trailblazer that they have advertised for $7880. Its advertised on their website, on ebay and on autotrader. All 3 of those websites show several pictures of the vehicle. I also talked to a Robert and Andy over the phone on several occasions to make an appointment to see the vehicle which I finally did approximately 7 to 10 days ago.

When I had arrived at the dealer they signed me into the computer system and then proceded to take me to the rear of the building where the suv was parked. A salesman by the name of Omar (i believe) said the car was in excellent shape however it had been hit in the rear and thats is why it was advertised for $7880. I told him that i talked to 2 sales people and saw it on sevarl websites and no one or no where was it stated that the vehicle had rear damage.

I also told them that all the websites had several pictures of the vehicle and none of them showed the damage. they were actually pictures of the vehicle before the accident had occured. I told them that it was false advertising and he replied no its not because the pictures were taken before so it was not mis leading. I asked how much for the vehicle if they fixed it and they said they wanted $2100 more for it. As of tonight the vehice is still on their website and probably still Ebay and autotrader with a price tag of $7880 and with all pictures of the vehicle but none of them show damage. How many people have to come in and waste their time to find out that the vehicle is damaged.

P S Im a sheriffs officer with the Passaic County Sheriffs Department and I believe that if thats not false advertising I done know what is.

I bought a used truck from Toyota Universe with a inspection guarantee. I took the truck to a privite NJ inspection station on 12/3/2007 and it failed for the front end. I called Toyota Universe to inform them of the outcome of the inspection and spoke with the used car floor manager "Orlando Perez" Mr. Perez told me the guarantee was only for state run inspection stations.

I asked him were that was in the contract and he said he would get back to me. Longer story made shorter, I have called numerous times since December and no matter who I ask for, floor manager "Orlando", used auto manager "Paul Stump" or even the sevice manager "Bob", after the receptionist asks me my name and what I want No Body is avilable and Im told they will call me back. I never get a call back. One time the receptionist didnt ask me my name or what I wanted and I did get thru to Orlando, he talked to me for about a minute and then asked 'who is this" I told him then he said he was in the middle of a "deal" and he would call me back later, he never called back.

Since my inspection I have take the truck to a front end specialist and was told it needed drivers and passenger side upper and lower ball joints. Esimated cost $900.00

The truck has a bad inspection sticker on it and needs to be repaired and reinspected within 45 days of the original inspection.

i have purchased a rav 4 in september 2006 but since im just new in the united states my aunt did co-sign for us.we financed the car for 32,000.we ask the sales manager when can we take off our aunt from being our co-signee. he told us that it will take 6months and its the only way we can built our credit. from that reason, we took off our co-signee. after that, he re-financed again the car as a second hand vehicle to us (as-is, where-is) to a higher amount ($32th to $38th). Plus a higher interest rate (8.15% to 9.59%).

and the 6months we paid off was gone. it was not carried on to the new account or anything.they even charged us again the sales tax, doc.stamps, financing fee, credit inquiry fee etc.in short all the process was paid all over again.which we didnt change ownership, just take off the co-signee. with these complaints from toyota, can we file or get something out of this?its so obvious we are fooled, robbed or being frauded by these people.

I was in the market to purchase a Toyta 4 runner 2006 suv.So I e-mailed Toyota.com and they responded by hav'ing this particular car dealer contact me so a Patrick Wilde who claim to be a manager in the internet depatment called me he sent me a paper Guaranteeing me 115%nada book value of my car and they had a few 2006 sr5 Toyota 4 runner for $26455. Mr Patrick Wilde told me there is more than 1 available at that price. He also told me when I come down I will deal with him since he is the manager and that is a special internet price only.

I have a 2002 4runner limited which "nada" values this suv with 62000 miles for $18375 average trade-in and $21400 for retail when I got there they wanted to give me $11000 for my trade and there was no more 2006 4runner at that price furthermore I never dealt with Patrick Wilde but was giving a sales rep (Odan) and when I was leaving they almost did not want to give me back my credit card and Mr Odan was rude to me.I spent 3 and 1/2 hours of torture at this dealer.

I have purchased a 2007 Camry LE, 2.4L engine.
I also purchased,at the time of sale, An XM radio option.
I had to bring the car back for them to install it.
after the "XM Radio" kit was installed I could not retrieve

my XM radio ID off the radio.

I brought the car back for them to check it out. I was told that my radio was not XM compatible and I needed another face plate for the radio. After going back and forth with the dealer and service dept. They told me They cannot install the upgraded radio, which I believe is the JBL type radio offered by Toyota.
They are suggesting an after market brand radio to accept the XM signal.(even though I paid for the XM radio option)

I would like to know if this is true about not being able to install the proper toyota offered radio for XM radio?
