Midas - Incidental Damage

Consumer Complaints & Reviews

Experience with Midas: Very bad service and irresponsible behavior.

On 8/25/2011 at 9.30 AM, I went to Midas Auto Service PA 19406 for oil change and brake checking. It took around 30-35 minutes and they gave me the courtesy inspection paper. The technician noted 3 things to be taken care of in car like transmission flush, needs front brakes and needs new lugs. Later on, I noticed that the technician forgot to sign on the paper. A day after, the car started tapping and stopped on the road while my husband was driving the car. The car smelled burning with white smoke. Somehow, he managed to pull the car. He opened the car and was surprised because the oil filter cap was opened and sitting down, oil spills all around engine.

He waited there for 2 hours to tow the car back home as Midas was closed at that time. On Monday (08/29/2011), I talked to the manager. He was rude and did not even apologize. He offered me towing service to bring the car to Midas. I refused to trust them and decided to go there with the car to know the damage and problem with the car because of their mistake. On Tuesday (08/30/2011), I went there at 9.15 AM. Being told that the manager was off today, but the assistant manager Brian will take care of the situation.

I waited there for 1 hour in front of the car to see what's going on now and what they were examining. I sense some serious internal damage to the car, as everybody was looking tense. After 1 hour, the manager told me that the oil filter blew off. When I asked the reason, he replied he doesn't know. The assistant manager arranged a rental car. He told me that he will take care of the car, the situation and will call me in the next morning. On the next day, I waited for a call but nobody called me. So I called in the afternoon. The manager told me that the car engine failed. He said that Midas will repair the car and bare all expenses for the same damage.

We took my car in for an estimate on repairs of the catalytic converter. Jim (the supposed asst. mgr.) told my husband and me the cost of the repairs, but since the "manager" was out that day and if we had the repairs done that day, that the cost would be less. We decided to look at used cars (since the car was older) and told Jim that we would be back to let him know if we were going to get it repaired.

When my husband went to open the passenger door for me at the car dealership, he saw a large dent and scratch on the passenger side of the car. We looked at cars and then went directly back to Midas. Jim and another person told us that they did not cause the damage and that we needed to "prove it". The only proof we had, which was our word against theirs, was the dent and scratch was not there when we drove into Midas. I called Midas several times and the supposed manager is never in. I tried to get on their website to make a complaint and it is not available. I can't believe that a place of business can treat you like this.
