1999 Mercury Sable

George of Sparta, NJ, thinks his new Sable is a death trap.

We just returned from a trip to Florida in our 1999 Mercury Sable and we areextremely disappointed in the handling as far as traction is concerned. It is equipped with GENERAL P205/65R15 blackwalls which came on the vehicle. Several times on completely dry roads the tires spun and caused us to narrowly avoid incidents. If there is even the slightest moisture on the road surface the front drive wheels spin and are completely tractionless.

I am wondering if I have any recourse other than filing suit against GENERAL Tire and Ford's Mercury Division after the almost certain accident that these tires on this car will cause. I would appreciate input from other owners as I feel certain that this could be grounds for a class action suit. It would be much cheaper for Ford and General Tire to make changes now rather than wait for many almost certain incidents.

Well, filing suit now won't do much good, since there have to be damages before a suit is filed and there haven't been any yet, at least not that George knows of.

Little, light, front-wheel drive cars do tend to spin their wheels, especially if they're over-powered, as so many cars are these days. If George thinks his car is exceptionally unstable, he should file a complaint with NHTSA. They're the people who handle safety recalls of cars and trucks.
