In 1997 I bought a 1996 Mazda m-x6 LS During the summer of 1998 I began to notice small scratch-like appearances on the hood. It was in warranty at the time but I was unaware of the causes thinking it to be a cat that I had at the time. I got rid of the cat at the end of the summer months. At the beginning of this summer I took the car to a body shop to get an estimate of repair. Tthat's when I was informed that it was not cat scratches but that the paint was cracking due to the thickness of the paint. I contacted Mazda and they directed me to take it to a local dealer which directed me to take it to a body shop of their choice. I did and was told to come in his office while he contacted the dealership to explain it was factory paint and it was too thick causing the cracking. They offered to pay 50% of costs since it was no longer under warranty. I felt this was unfair due to the problem being caused from their mistake why should I pay for it? I wrote a letter to the chairman and got a response of, "I'm sorry, we will stand by only offering 50%." The cost of the repairs at their choice of body shop will be around $600, a small price for them to pay but a unfair price for me. Report Your Experience
