M.D. writes about her 1991 Chevy Beretta:

I needed to find a car to get me through the winter months. In working with the the Sales People at Gleason I was aware that the car would need minor work. Lou (I'd guess his primary role is Chief or Head of Service) shared with me that it may require a tune up and plugs at the very least, and went on stressing how great a car it was.

I decided to purchase the car on 1/8/99 for $2,799.88 as-is out the door. In driving my car home that evening I experienced a fear unimagineable, aside from the terrible weather and driving in it alone, the car itself barely made it to my destination. It stalled continuously.

The Service Representative assured me that inside a few hundred bucks everything wrong with the car could be repaired and went on to put me in touch with the mechanic that does work on used vehicles, to get a good deal.

Again before I could schedule any service for the car it was dying. I was to afraid to drive, many saftey features were not working and I decided to not to follow through with buying the car and avoid any long term headaches and additional costs.

Inside twenty-four hours later I contacted my Sales Representative to share with him that I wanted to return the car, ultimately I decided to not purchase at all. He shared with me my 'options, which did not include deciding to not purchase at all.

What are my rights as a consumer? Although I wrote a check and stopped payment on it, he's telling me they can take me to court and sue me, and my concern is again what rights do I have? Had my check been returned and I decided to keep the car, I would be charged with fraud, or they would have requested I return the car. Had I financed a car and didn't meet all the requirements originally agreed on they (the dealers) could call for a return on the car.

This situation has caused a great amount of stress which has resulted in a excruciating migraine, uncontroable nervousness and overall I'm a wreck. I was not safe, comfortable, and in tears. I'm literally afraid to drive the car period, my boyfriend is driving it back to the dealership for this reason.
