Brian of Dallas (9/5/03):
I have a 2002 Jaguar X-Type. At 10,000 miles the dealership replaced the brakes and rotors under warranty stating that they were warped. I just took the vehicle in for its 20,000 mile service and again the vehicle was vibrating when I applied the brakes. They checked out the brakes and said that the brakes and rotors needed to be replaced. They stated that driving in stop and go traffic will do this.

I have owned a Mazda, Chevy, Oldsmobile, BMW, and a Mercedes. All of these vehicles were driven at least 60,000 miles in the same driving conditions as this Jaguar, and not once did I ever replace the rotors. By the way I do not drive in stop and go traffic. If this had been a one time thing I might be a little more understanding, but after researching the internet and talking to other Jaguar X-type owners a lot of them have had the brakes and rotors replaced at around 10,000 and again at 20,000 miles and all of them were told the same reason of its their driving habits.

I understand that European cars use softer pads and thinner rotors, but I can't believe they won't last longer than 10,000 miles. I filed a complaint with Jaguar customer relations center asking them to fix the problem again under warranty and they refused saying the warranty was only for 1 year or 12,000 miles on the brakes. It appears to me that maybe Jaguar has a brake problem and needs to look into this instead of just blaming the owner for the poor quality of their product.

Ken of San Francisco (9/4/03):
I own a '99 Jaguar XK8 with 16K miles and purchased it new. Since the day I've owned it the brakes have squeaked. The dealer told me to wait til it had more miles on it and see if it went away. Then for the 10K miles service I mentioned the squeak again and the dealer inspected them and said this may be inherent in the car as it is a heavy car.

Now at 16K miles the dealer suggest deglazing the brakes for $220. However, Jaguar Customer Relations says the repair will not last and that this could be inherent with the car. However, Jaguar refuses to accept any responsiblity or offer any assistance.

Jeanne of Delray Beach FL (1/8/03):
I leased a 2000 S-Type in Feb 2000. From the first time I took my Jag to a dealership for service I was shocked by the poor service. Two and a half years later the car stalled out while driving ... very scary. 5 days in the shop and they sold me new brakes and rotors after 30,000 miles -- $1000. 10 days later the car stalled out while driving on the freeway. Roadside service was awful Car towed for the second time ... another 6 days in the shop. No one apologized or offered any Good Will.

I filed several complaints with the dealership and corporation...little response. The worst service in the industry! Lexus blows Jaguar away when it comes to quality and service.
