Huntington Beach Jeep Eagle
Huntington Beach, CA

J.H. of Trabuco Canyon, CA, writes:

They refuse to honor the extended warrantee that I purchased with my 1994 Dodge Intrepid and paid $1362 for. They will not fix the transmission under the extended warrantee. They claim because I serviced the vehicle myself at scheduled intervals it does not constitute "proper maintainence"

I bought the vehicle used with 23,445 miles 9/29/96 with the extended warrantee. At approximately 68,000 miles I took the vehicle to the dealership complaining of what I knew was transmission problems. After having my vehicle for two days they assured me there was no trouble with the transmission. Now at approximately 77,000 miles, the transmission will not shift out of 1st gear and there is no reverse.

I had to pay $100 to have my vehicle towed in to Huntington Beach Jeep Eagle because we live within 40 miles of selling dealership (about 38.5 miles) K. S. advised me it was only 21.8 miles "as the crow flies". Last time I checked, not too many crows drive tow trucks.

The vehicle was towed to them March 24. Mr. S. didn't contact me until late Friday afternoon March 26, requesting proof of maintaining vehicle at scheduled intervals. I faxed him copies of my records including date, mileage and services performed by myself.

The next time I heard from him was late Tuesday afternoon March 30, he left a message with my daughter. When I called him back the next day he then informed me that the transmission repairs would not be covered under the extended warrantee. I told tim I didn't agree with his decision and wanted to persue this matter further with his boss. Of course he was not in!

I contacted the Chrysler Corporation and they passed the buck saying it was the extended warranty company's responsibility for the repairs. They did not seem the least surprised or concerned that a vehicle's transmission that they manufacture has failed at 77,000 miles.

We are a single income family. The $100 towing and $2700 for transmission is ridiculous. This should be covered under the extended warranty for the $50 deductable. Having to argue with the dealership has stressed me out very much. Plus being without my vehicle for two weeks now has been a great strain on our family. I definately have a sour taste with Huntington Beach Jeep Eagle and Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth Corp. I'm definately not going to purchase a Chrysler Product again if this is the kind of customer service they offer! Especially after having purchased two vehicles from Huntington Beach Jeep Eagle!
