Faulty repair is what started this problem. Someone rear ended me on the tollway in December and cause my back wheels to become bent, shocks broke, control arms bent and rims bent. I chose to have my car repaired here because they worked for my family's farm years ago. I thought it would be an honest pleasant experience.
Hindsight, needless to say, yesterday, I was driving on 183 heading to an interview when all of a sudden I hear a popping noise and feel something rubbing on the mettle. I immediately pull to side of road and call for towing assistance. This is the same wheel that was hit very hard in the rear ending accident in December (4 mos. ago since repaired). I didn't want to take any chances. The tow truck took the car to the Ford Collision Center so I could get a 2nd opinion of the safety and quality of repair on my car. They immediately pointed out that the rim that was bent, had little hairline cracks close to the base where the wheel is screwed in to the tire rod or holder. Rust is just covered, it is black on the inside.
This mettle is aluminum which is lighter than my other three alloy better quality wheels. It is obvious it was a freak accident, no negligence on my part, no curb marks, no signs of any damage caused by running over something. I could have run over pot holes, but that is everyday where and tear. I put on my spare tire after the Ford dealership says it would be safe to drive it that way home. He did say that if my tires had been aligned and balanced that wheel, that bent would never have rubbed on the suspension. There are no other marks, they tire itself is still aired up with no marks. Frustrated, but trying to make a wrong right, I take it to the body shop in which it was repaired. I talk to Shiloh, long time family friend and owner. He won't listen to my explanation, and keeps repeating it's my fault I ran over something and caused this. He is not responsible, and he doesn't give warranties of his work 3-4 mos later. I show him the inside of the wheel and ask him why it is completely rusted, he says I am wrong that is brake dust.
The wheel is so rusted it has corroded into black tar in some places. I had no idea he had bought salvaged wheels in that bad of condition, and expected me to be safe. I ask him what can be done to make this job right, and he said I can buy another wheel and with installation it would cost approx $200.00. Well, that is when I had it. I paid him $129 for each wheel to be repaired or replaced. I never approved used wheels, nor did he advise me of what type of part he was getting. I would have said no. Secondly, I had to return the car twice to remind him to take my car to get aligned at a service shop. All of the tread on all 4 tires (all new tires less than 20k miles) have zero tread on the inside but lots of treat on the outside. My front wheels are getting grooves from obviously not be aligned properly with all the wheels. The Ford collision expert confirmed no alignment had been made on my car and the tires where definitely off balance. The cheap used wheel that he purchased is also different from the other 3 rims as far as weight. Not sure if that is a factor or important.
Basically, Shiloh told me I hit something and I would have to pay out of pocket for another wheel, alignment and balance. I asked him why didn't you give me a written work order and list where you bought these parts. Good parts usually come with a warranty. He left me in the dark, he lied, and he received 100% of the insurance money. Progressive has certain standards of quality of materials that are factored into the estimate. My wheel repair was $129*2 each wheel, (bought used 30-40 bucks) 4 wheel alignment $89.95+, new tire $103.45 (used tire est $22.00) no new tire was replaced, turns out it was used. That let's me know I at least overpaid approx $427.00. I just want my car fixed, his shop to be looked at for shady, lying tactics and business practice. I tried to reason with him, and it didn't work. I am stuck with an unsafe vehicle in which the original wreck wasn't at fault. I am a single mother, and am gonna have to use pocket book to get my car in safe driving shape again. Please help. I wish I had a final work order. Shiloh told me his secretaries can't read and write very well so an invoice is not possible. Isn't that illegal? I am a paying customer, I should have a choice in what products I get, especially when the ones he chooses are based on bottom dollar for him, not my safety. Please help
