In November I purchased a car from "Robert."   About a month later I took it back to him telling him that when I accelerate it doesn't change back into gear when accelerating. At this point he told me to come back if and when it happens again.

I did so a month later in January. This time he told me that I would have to get it fixed on my own. He also told me that it was "a slip cable" a plastic band so to speak that was causing this problem. Since November the car has been leaking fluid from the left side in the front. When I informed Robert of this he "blew" me off. This problem is ongoing and has been happening since the purchase of the car.

On Monday April 12, 1999 I was stopped at a light and I went to accelerate and the car wouldn't go. I had to put the car in reverse and then back into drive for it to move forward. At my lunch hour I took it to a mechanic who told me that the transmission was gone. He also informed me that the car was sold to me this way. He also opened the transmission up and showed me that there was a plastic "belt" that was completely worn. (the one that Robert informed me of without even opening the transmission up).

I am a single mother of a two year old daughter who is also attending college full time. Because of this I have to depend on other people to get to where I have to go. To fix the car it is going to cost $800 alone for the parts. That is not including labor. Now the only thing left for me to do is buy another vehicle from a respectable dealer.

Without seeing your sale documents, we don't know whether there was any kind of warranty with the car.  If you bought it "aas is," then Robert is under no obligation to you.  It's very important to get some kind of warranty with used cars.  As you can see from the sad tales in this section, the warranties are often not honored but they're slightly better than nothing.
