Sure, they look tough. But underneath that brawny exterior, there are lots of delicate little parts. The most disastrous common problem is low oil pressure, leading to engine failure. Although this is happening like clockwork, DaimlerChrysler is refusing to accept responsibility.

Not only that, the Durango tends to go through ball joints like a dog through a pound of hamburger. This is not only expensive but can -- and does -- cause serious accidents, as many of our readers will tell you. The feds have finally put the arm on DaimlerChrysler to do a recall but there's some debate over whether the recall covers all of the affected models.

Bought a 2000 Dodge Durango in September 2008. 4.7 Ltr engine developed sludge. Oil pressure at 0. Had oil pan, oil pick up, sending tubes cleaned and or replaced. December 2008 same sludge problem. Oil pressure at 0. Auto shop cleaned removed oil pan (have to lower front axel to get to the pan), cleaned out sending tube pick up filter, scraped out as much hard baked on sludge as possible. Not quite 3000 miles later, severe sludge, oil pressure at 0.

Motor not getting oil to top, knocking horribly. Current diagnosis: new motor needed, cost of 5000.00 as motors are in scarce supply due to high incidence of similar problems in other vehicles.

2009 Dodge Ram 1500 with ventilated seats. The seat covers in my 2009 Dodge Ram are worn, wrinkled and stretched beyond recovery at 400 total miles. Chrysler is aware of this quality control issue but has yet to do anything to resolve the failing seats. This is happening in vehicles with the bucket seats and center console with the heated, cooled ventilated seat option. Read the pages of complaints on a 2009 Dodge Truck forum.

Immidiate loss in value. Interior looks worn out after one month. It's embarassing to show anyone my brand new truck inside.

Donna of Crawfordville, FL March 25, 2009

My 2002 Dodge truck has numerous electrical problems. The passenger and back windows only work intermittently. The inside door panel on the driver's side is also becoming loose. The air conditioner started only working on high speed. Then it wouldn't work at all unless you giggled the key a certain way. Now it won't work at all. These trucks have been subject to a recall for this issue.

The electrical connector at the bottom of the steering column contains an under-sized terminal for the Hvac blower motor circuit. Per the recall DEALERS WILL INSTALL A WIRING HARNESS OVERLAY TO CORRECT THIS CONDITION. I contacted the dealer where I bought the monstrosity and he was rude and claimed this truck was not subject to that recall. I also called the national number and they refused to repair their defective vehicle. We live in Florida and it is dangerous to have to ride in a vehicle without air conditioning. Our Dodge Caravan also has a defective air conditioner. I rue the day I ever bought a Dodge.

I bought a 2003 Durango used in 2005 with 42,000 miles. At 120,000 miles, the oil pressure dropped, presumably due to oil pump failure, causing the engine to be completely lost. There was no warning. Intermittent oil lite one day to seized engine the next.

Hard to find an engine. It has taken a few weeks to find one. It cost twice as much as the the larger 5.9L. It will be about 3500 in damages and over a month without a vehicle.
