Not only that, the Durango tends to go through ball joints like a dog through a pound of hamburger. This is not only expensive but can -- and does -- cause serious accidents, as many of our readers will tell you. The feds have finally put the arm on DaimlerChrysler to do a recall but there's some debate over whether the recall covers all of the affected models. Dan of Goodrich, MI June 12, 2009 Hood came open on my 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 pick-up truck while driving bending and denting the hood. Will need a new hood (aprx w/ paint / install) 900. sheldon of fountain valley, CA May 26, 2009 my dash board is cracked and falling apart in my 2004 dodge truck.i was told it wasnt covered under warranty. this is a real problem, i checked in line there are thousands of people having this problem and feel that it shoud be a recall. insides of the dash and some critical components are exposed to sun light. i am not sure what type of damage is going to happen over time. possibly wire degradation and fire. Dominick of Jersey Shore, PA May 21, 2009 We were in an accident today, the entire wheel fell off of our 2006 Dodge Dakota truck. We were unable to steer the vehicle, causing us to hit another vehicle. We have taken numerous photos of the damage done to our truck and the tire that fell off the truck causing the accident. Loss of the truck , severe emotional stress, and physical pain, other driver hurt in accident. Darling of Taylor, MI May 21, 2009 I took my 2004 Dodge Durango in because the check engine light came on. I noticed that when I put the truck into gear that it had a slight delay in shifting. So I took it in first to Auto Zone because other than that it ran fine. Auto Zone has free diagnosis so they ran test and said it was the transaxle (transcode) and that I should have it checked at the dealership because my truck is still under warranty. So that's exactly what I did. When Dodge diagnosed the problem they said that it was the Valve Body and they had to order part which was on back order from Mexico. My warranty allows me to have a rental for up to five days. I went to Enterprise to pick up my rental and this was on March 26, 2009. One week later I called the dearlership to check on my truck and they informed me that they were still waiting on the part to come from Mexico. [Dealer] had my truck until Friday, May 15, 2009 because it is one of the dealerships scheduled to close. They drove my truck down to Chrysler Jeep at Telegraph Road. They called me and told me to come in and fill out paperwork so that they can provide rental coverage because Enterprise could no longer bill [dealer]. So the following Monday I went to Snethkamp and filled out paperwork and they informed me that they were going to check out my truck to see what the problem was cause Bruce Campbell deleted all the codes out of the computer and didn't send any paperwork over with my truck. Later that day they called me and said they didn't know what the problem was because the truck was running fine and the check engine light was not on. Snethkamp agreed to keep the truck an extra day to see if they could find a problem with the truck. Today May 20, 2009 I picked my truck up and turned the rental in. It was true the engine light was off. I don't know what was going on but I feel like I was raped without knowing who raped me. They kept my truck for almost 2 months and billed Chrysler 1350 for the cost of my rental. I am mad because if there is not a problem with my truck why did one dealership diagnose it and order a part? If it is a problem there is no telling when I will find out and have to go through the same thing again. Or was somebody doing a scam? paloma of san jose , CA May 13, 2009 I have a 00 dodge durango. i have given it regular maintanance with the mopar brands all the time. I have kept my receipts of everything i've done on it to prove i have maintain it properly. Just on april 2009. while driving along the freeway the oil meter went all the way to the lowest level 0 and the check gages light came on. by the time y could pull over the steering wheel locked on me and the engine went out as well, i got my family of the car since the spot i pull out to was the side of the freeway exit, i check the oil, water, everything was o.k. then i realize the water hose broke and all the antifreeze leaked out. My life , my family who were in the car with me were as well as the other drivers on the road were in danger. This could've cuase a major accident due the wheel locking on me and the engine going out. John of Wallington, NJ May 3, 2009 I bought a 1996 Dodge Ram brand new and a couple of years after purchasing, the paint started flaking off. To this day, almost my entire roof's paint is gone and starting to rust and the sides and back look more like green paint with white polka dots. I even sanded, primed and repainted the hood, but now it's starting to flake off again. At first I felt I was alone in my complaint until I read the other owner's complaint with truck from around the same year as mine. I really don't feel it's fair for a company to use shoddy practices and/or paint in their products and not take responsibility for them. No wonder they're in bankruptcy. william of alpena, MI May 1, 2009 I have a 1997 dodge ram 2500 pickup truck and the paint is peeling off the hood and rear side panels. I know the dealer is not going to do anything about it so I am going to the internet to see if other people are having the same problem. I found your site so I though I would check with you to see if there are others with the same problem as mine. If there is something else I need to do please let me know. I have not had to do this before. Casandra of Belmont, NC April 26, 2009 I purchased a used 2002 Durango in August of last year. Two weeks after the purchase the Emission system had to be check due to the check engine light coming on and staying on. I got that fixed after 3 attempts. Then a month ago March 2009 I almost had an accident due to the ball bearing breaking off? the axle on the driver's side unexpectedly. I could have been in a very serious accident had I not stopped at a locate repair shop to have the wheel looked at. I was told the calipher was loose and essentially after removing the wheel was told the ball bearing was gone and the axle was just laying inside the wheel. I got this repaired. Now my electrical system is blowing fuses, first the turn signal, next the brake lights, now the air flow adjusters in the heating and cooling system. I have owned many vehicles, but none with as many problems as the Durango. I have missed days from work due to the Durango being in the repair shop. I have also had to pay for repairs that according to the repairman should not have happened based on the wear and tear of the vehicle. Now I have to find a mechanic to look at the electrical system before it completely shuts down. George of Boulder City, NV April 24, 2009 The engine light keeps coming on it is a 2008. I have had it back to the Dodge Dealer 3 times. D of South Jordan, UT April 18, 2009 Report Your Experience
