On July 18, 2009 I left Baltimore, MD in route to Indiana to pursue a career in truck driving with CR Englan Trucking company. Upon entering the shcool I had already obtained my CDL at American Trucking School. On the week of August 3, 2009 the administrators of CR England had myself as well as other students in a meeting to discuss our position with the company. Greg which was the instructor informed everyone that they would have to take a refresher course before they were to be hired and the course would cost $1400 to enter. At this time he also explained that if we did not get hired we would not have to repay the money.
During the hiring process we were under the impression by Greg that if we were terminated or fired we would not have to pay the monies back, but if we quit we would have to pay the monies back. I was supposed to be in the training program for 90 days. I was hired August 3, 2009 and terminated August 12, 2009. I signed the loan paperwork on August 3, 2009 thinking that I would have a permanent position with the company. I would also have 30 days in the 1st phase for training.
After being on the road for 6 days I was given a Safety Evaluation which was not supposed to be given until at the end of the 1st 30 days or 1st phase in order to move up to the next phase which was the end of 60 days. The driver test was performed in Dallas, TX. After the evaluation test I was told to call Monica Hood (Trainer Coordinator). At that time she informed me that that I was terminated because I failed the safety evaluation after being on the truck for six days and still in training driving over 3000 miles.
I did not hear from CR England or their affilitates until September 30, 2009 by certified mail that I had to start making payments of $195 on the 5th of each month to Eagle Atlantic Financial Services.
I called and spoke to Nicole at the bank to request a freeze on the account and she said "no". She state that they only gave out papers for us to sign whether we stayed with the company 1 hr or 1 day, we still had to pay. I do not recall seeing those papers as we did not receive any copies from the company nor were we given ample time to read over the documents.
Upon signing the papers they instructed us that if we did not sign the paperwork immediately or within the time alloted we would not be hired. So therefore, we rushed to sign the paperwork so that we could have a job. By this happening it is causing me not to get a job using my license and credentials that I already have in trucking because I did not receive ample training from the company. My record or credit would also be damaged.
