Nancy of New Market MD (07/21/06) My Chrysler Pacifica 2006 model has stalled twice, completely shutting down. The vehicle had to be put in park and restarted. Both incidents happened as we were pulling into parking spaces. The first time there was another vehicle behind me who honked at me because of my sudden stop. The second time no one was behind us. Scary.

James of Ellicott City, MD February 19, 2005
James of Ellicott City MD (02/19/05) The Pacifica stalled twice while driving it. After these stalls, we received a notification of a national recall on Pacificas for this issue. We took it in and that problem was apparently fixed. Another safety issue arose when all the electronics in the car stopped working, denying my pregnant wife the ability to safely drive the vehicle. This problem happened to correlate to another national recall, of which we were never notified.
We were told by the service department that the electronic part was not available and backordered. However, when they tried to provide a rental car for our use, our two car seats could not be safely installed in any of the available rental cars. Apparently by miracle, the electronic part needed appeared at the dealership. After a three hour wait, the Pacifica’s electronic problems were apparently fixed.
Most recently, on Friday, February 11, our Pacifica would not start. I came home from work to deal with the situation. My wife had been trying to start it for several hours. It finally started, accompanied by a big ball of smoke from the exhaust area. We took it back to the dealership to have this problem diagnosed. Unhappy with recurring problems and poor service, we asked to speak to the Service Director, Stan Suggs. We told him we no longer trusted the safety of our car and wanted out of it. He promised his service department would perform an end-to-end checkup and evaluate it not starting.
Keith, our service representative, explained that they could not recreate the problem of the Pacifica not starting and that the end-to-end checkup, which consisted solely of hooking it up to a computer and looking for error codes, was satisfactory. Not being able to recreate the problem and fix it made us more nervous than if the problem was found and fixed. After a non-stop series of problems, often dangerous ones, and very poor service received, I no longer trust the Pacifica as a safe and dependable car for my family.
I am a U.S. Naval Officer. I am often out of town for weeks at a time for operational or training purposes. Additionally, there is always the possibility I can be deployed on short notice for six months or more to support the Global War on Terrorism. I originally bought the Pacifica to be a safe and dependable family car for my wife and two young daughters. It no longer meets those criteria.
