I purchased a used 1999 Dodge Intrepid 6 months ago and have found it to be the BIGGEST headache I have EVER owned. I have had it into the dealership 5 times (4 for the same problem). Regularly, I drive the car to a destination and when I want to leave the car won't start. I have been told by the service department that this is a "KNOWN" problem with the engine (2.7) and there is NO FIX. I ask you, what good is a car that will only get you ONE WAY!

I am so tired of being towed. If this is indeed a known manufactur issue it needs to be addressed. I have been stranded for hours, missed appointments and generally been put out having to debate on a regular basis if I should risk going places because my car may or may not start.

Bernard of Hephzibah, GA, writes:
I own a 1994 Dodge Intrepid. My wife and I purchased this vehicle in 1996 as a used car with 45,000 miles on the odometer. After much debate, we decided to purchase the vehicle as we had heard some good things about the Chrysler products at that time.

Almost instantly, we started to have problems with the transmission and the cruise control not functioning properly. At the same time the steering mechanism has been pulling to one side even on roads that are not crowned. I have discussed this problem with the local Dodge dealer, the dealer has reassured me that there is nothing wrong with this vehicle's steering system.

After many different conversations with other repair persons they have all revealed to me that the problems that I have complained about are very commonplacee with these vehicle and that repairs are going to be very expensive as all of the parts and components are manufactured and distributed by the manufacturer under the name MOPAR.

I have requested information regarding recalls and have come across information that leads me to believe that there has been isolated recalls on this particular make and model of this vehicle. After contacting the Michigan office of Daimler -Chrysler, I was informed that there have been no records of complaints forwarded to their headquarters and that there have been no recalls for this particular make and model.

So I am asking that this information be posted and shared with anyone that you deem necessary as I am stuck with a sub-standard product which the manufacturer refuses to stand behind.
