K of Bucyrus, OH September 25, 2008

Bought a used car that had a clean carfax report, actually was swayed to buy the car by that fact as had been ripped off previously. Husband noted headlights were off, one of the screws didn't line up. Couple of months later, had a tune up, the mechanic proceeded to inform us that the car had been in a major front end collision as had extensive repaired/welded areas.

Went back to dealership who informed us that if it is not reported to carfax, then it will not show up. How can Carfax make the claims they do when reporting is voluntary and they have no idea? In my opinion, this is consumer fraud.

I bought a car that I thought was intact and sound based on the report, but had actually been in a collision. I would not have bought this car had I known.

I'm trying to sell my 2003 Chrysler Town & Country LX. I know that it's never been in an accident. I entered the VIN on Carfax and came up with 10 incidents! I KNOW it's never been in a wreck. Next, I tried my 2006 Prius. 5 incidents. Both times Carfax wanted money to reveal the incidents. Don't waste your money!

James of Fayetteville, NC September 18, 2008

James of Fayetteville NC (09/18/08)
Bought my New Car a 2004 Nissan 350Z from Myrtle Beach Grand Strand Nissan in South Carolina in 2004 with 260 miles -- in August 2008 my car had only 33,000 miles in excellent condition and I wanted to Trade at Crown Ford in Fayetteville NC -- to my surprise when the dealership ran a CARFAX they told me that they could only give me 8000 for the car since the Car had been in an accident in 2004 one month before I bought it in January 2004 -- the report stated that my car had a collision in Texas with 440 miles & there was Frame Damage to the right rear of the car -- I was floored & depressed. I contacted the Dealer in SC who I bought the car from -- Grand Strand SC Myrtle Beach said their records showed no Claims against the vehicle prior to our purchase & the dealer signed an Affidavit in March 2004 that stated the Mileage was 260 & there had been no collisions/claims on the vehicle. I contacted CARFAX by email & by UPS Overnight to plead my case. Their reply stated that the mileage could not be verified so they removed it -- the 440 miles assigned to a collision were removed due to possible error -- the Frame Damage was removed as that was not accurate -- then they state the Collision Facility was a Home Base facility so they removed Texas & a Third party Insurance Verified that my VIN did incur rear right damage repair but zero frame damage -- CARFAX maintained the Accident occurred -- I asked if they could verify if the claim was paid by Grand Strand Nissan in SC & they responded they do not provide that information -- I have since asked for the cost of the damage & if the claim was paid by somebody from South Carolina -- they have not given any information -- I just want to know if the dealership truly sold me a car using deliberate false information or if CARFAX is in error. I also am retired military & I am shocked that a company like CARFAX would let vague validations pass as truths for the customer & owners. I am truly saddened by the near communistic approach CARFAX has in dealing with our American population.

They had a wrong carfax report on my car which listed it with a not actual mileage title. After I contacted them, they fixed the problem within 1 week.

Don of South Euclid, OH September 15, 2008

Don of South Euclid OH (09/15/08)
I paid 24.99 for service, but before I finished gathering all of the info, the site timed out. So I went back into the site, and was charged 34.99. I don't mind paying for the first charge, but I don't think I should be required to pay the second charge.
