3.0 Toyota Engine

Consumer Complaints & Reviews

Oil was blowing blue smoke out the exhaust on a 2001 Highlander with the 3.0 v-6 motor. It has excessive oil consumption. Vale seals and guides determined to be bad. Also, oil sludge in valve covers all at 55,000 miles. We don't put on many miles. I have never heard of these things going bad at that mileage before in any Toyota. I paid $1,155 to have this repaired. I don't think this should have happened. I have the oil gel glove box and notice from the oil gel problem.

Have a 1995 Toyota 4 Runner 4WD with 125,000 miles on it. Engine blew on it and had it replaced with a remanufactured 3.0 V6. Supposedly the engine had approximate 75,000 miles on it and was from a wrecked vehicle. The vehicle did not have more than 1,000 miles on it and blew a rod. Looking at repairs of $4000 or replacing the engine. I just read the consumer affairs site and did not this was going on in other parts of the country. I just thought the engine went out and had heard good things about Toyota trucks.

The engine and transmission in my new 07 Camry is a disaster.I can not understand how Toyota Engineers would think this NEW combo is acceptable. The transmission shifts when you do not request it to,it loses power around turns and then agressively downshifts and lurches forward to maintain speed. It is a danger when you are not asking the car to perform these high RPM shifts.I am not an agressive driver, yet this car wants to perform like I am.I have been driving for the past 40yrs and this is my fifth Toyota and probably my last if this problem is not corrected. With $3.00 a gallon gas I drive to conserve not use more. This Camry will not allow this.I had it in to the dealer twice, and both times it was tested the service person told me NOTHING WRONG that is the way it is designed,LIVE WITH IT.I even had the area service rep drive the car and she said the same thing OH WELL LIVE WITH IT!This is unacceptable. This car can barely get up a slight hill without mashing the pedal to the FLOOR and then goes into race mode to catch up.I have had it.

My son drives my car Toyota Camry 1994, LE 4 cylinder to school every day. He noticed some oil drops on the drive way. He took this car to the above repair shop for inspection of the oil leak and a quote to for repairs. The repair shop inspected the car and advised him to get the oil pan gasket and the valve cover gasket replaced. Quote for labour and parts was $203.00 plus tax.

On 01/17/07 my son dropped the car at this repair shop for the repllacement of the same. A day later the repair shop told him that the following parts need to replaced:- Oil pan gasket valve cover gasket Cam seal Crank seal Oil pump seal Oil pump o ring Timing belt with two other parts . Revised estimated Quote for the job with parts and labor was $285.00 plus tax. On 1/19/07 my son picked up the car after repairs. He paid a total of $506.40 tax inclusive. My son drove the car and heard some funny (engine rattling) noise.

He also noticed the car did not have the gut (power) it had before the repairs. The following morning he also noticed some oil drips on the drive way. My son and hos nephew took the car back to the repair shop on 1/25/07. He told the shop about the broblems ( oil leak, no power and the engine rattling noise). On 01/29/07, after dropping my son to school I went to the repair shop to check on my car. The manager told me that he did not wittnes any oil leak on the ground so he would run the engine and see if there was any leak then.

After this discussion I came back home. I left for wrk at 1200 hrs. I called my second son to go back and check on the progress on this car. My son went to the repair shop at approx. 1600 hrs. He was told that we need to replace the engine because there was more oil leaks from other areas and probably the crank bearings were damaged.

On 01/30/07 I went to the shop and was told the same. The shop would replace the engin with a second hand engine at estimated cost of $1200.00 plus tax. My concern is that when I took my car to the shop there was only one problem, oil leaks. After repairs with so many replacement parts , despite leaks from other areas the engine is now making the rattling noise with less gut (power). I now have to pay $1200.00 to get the engine replace. I hereby seek your openion and the action and solution to this problem.
