Consumer Complaints & Reviews

We placed a request on 3/4/12 for our car to be transported from Columbia, South Carolina. We paid $145.00 deposit and $50.00 additional to avoid storage fees. As of yet, 05/20/2012, we have not gotten the vehicle. We were in contact with several agents for this company. We were told our car had been picked up, only to find out the driver left the car because there were storage fees of $750.00.

We tried contacting the agents; Jennifer **, Danielle ** and Tim (no last name) and no one has responded. I traveled to Columbia on May 10, 2012 to pay fees and remove the car to another location. The fees added up to $1,600.00. I was able to negotiate them to $1,200.00. My total cost has been about $1,819.60. I am seeking reimbursement for all additional charges. This company is not good at all. After this experience, I don't know what to do when looking for auto transporters.

I just got to say this company is the worst ever. I live in Seattle and had a Toyota pickup in Richmond, VA. Schedule was set up on 2/17/2012. I was quoted $1275. I had a horrible time reaching a live person and always just voice mail or email. The truck wasn't picked up until 3/14/2012 (almost a month late already) by the diesel auto transport. Finally, it arrived at my home in Seattle on 3/30/2012 and the cost was not $1,275 as the contract stated; actual total was $1575. If you need further proof, I'll be glad to share it all with you. Please never use this service ever. Here is my personal email if you need proof: **. What a horrible service and dishonest company.

I purchased a motorcycle from Louisiana and spoke with Eric from Stateway about the shipping. They had a great price and assured me that day (Thursday) that the bike would be picked up in a closed carrier no later than Sunday night. After paying the $195 deposit, the invoice read that it was to be moved in an open container within 1-7 days. It has been well over a week and the bike is still sitting with no projected date of pickup. I called my bank and emailed their company in order to get a full refund informing them that I would be calling my bank, my lawyer, and the BBB, and magically Eric called me instantly, literally within 2 minutes of my email. Do not use this company or allow them to scam you.

Is this a real company? I got a quote from this company to ship my car and I placed the job. They took a deposit of $175 and they never even made an attempt to contact the guy where the car is getting picked up. I have made several phone calls and spent a lot of my own time writing emails to each "employee" that works there and haven't heard back from a single person. The quote was given to me over two weeks ago. All I want is my initial deposit refunded so I can find a better company that actually prides themselves with customer service. Thank you.

They had more than 8 days to ship my car. They never picked it up. I called them every day and no one ever answers or emails back. I called Bank of America to get my 185 dollars back. Do not do any deals with this company.

They took the order, charged my card, and never delivered.

I booked my 2 cars with this company on December 9th to be shipped the week of December 26th. Called and spoke to someone every day when I heard no word on the pick-up of these cars beginning January 2nd. I waited patiently until January 13th and then cancelled their service. Not only did they not get the job done but they double charged my c/c for the deposits and I still haven't gotten the deposits back yet. It's February 16th! Do not book with this company!

This company was quick to take payment to take a car from Boston to San Diego but it was not quick to take the car. Call followed call. No response. I left for San Diego. Car still in Boston. These folks are a fraud. Stay away from them.

Complaint number 1: It has been 9 business days since my ready by date and still there is no information on when the car will be picked up. My vehicle ready by date was January 4th. It is now January 13th. They still have no information regarding when my car will be picked up.

Complaint number 2: You can never directly reach the customer service people. You always get an answering machine. They are not prompt in returning your call either.

Complaint 3: They claim to have "no hidden fees", other than the "upgrade" fee of 300 or something dollars to get it picked up within 3 business days.

Complaint 4: They only tell you what you want to hear and not what they can produce. They claim to have their own cars, which at first assured me that they would be able to get their drivers to pick up my car on time, but now they come back with statements saying that they had "no control" over the drivers.

Complaint 5: They are not upfront about anything. For instance, when I contacted them a month and a half before asking whether it would be alright to ship around the New Year and whether it would cause delays, they assured me that it would be fine. Now, they claim that the holidays are the reason they are so late with their pick up.

I would not recommend this carrier group to anyone. Do yourself a favor and pay the 100 dollars more for a better carrier. I have no idea how Stateway got 5 stars on transport reviews, but I will say that they don't deserve it in the least.

I had my car shipped from Virginia to California. I was "promised" by Eric of Stateway that my car would be dropped off on the 28th of November, after they picked up the car late for no reason. The 28th came, and passed -- no calls. I attempted to call them, but got no response. I called on the 1st, 3rd, 4th, 7th of December, and there was still no response or word on the car. I am still paying for rental car, and trying to speak with anyone.

On 10/18/2011, Stateway Auto Transport owner Oniell dispatched 360 Auto transporter Chad to transport 09 Nissan Altima from Minden Louisiana to Chino, CA. Upon arriving in Chino on 10-22-2011, ahead of schedule on 10-25-2011, 360 auto Chad ** bent and knocked a hole in the top roof. Chad, knowing he damage the car, offer my sister (she doesn't know) $200 and a number Chad suggested to get someone to repair it. The person (Chad ** of 360 Auto) sent out from Craigslist came out to the home and tried, but didn't get the bent hole out of the roof.

Mr. Oniell of Stateway Auto Transport gave me the insurance name of 360 Auto's Chad **. I contacted the insurance company and they told me that Mr. Oniell gave me that information knowing that I couldn't use it because the bids I had for repairs didn't add up to his deductible. Oniell of Stateway Auto Transport and Chad ** of 360 Auto Transport refuse to talk about repairing my car. He said he sent this guy out and paid for it. It is our fault that we did not force the guy he sent out to repair the dent. My car roof top remains bent and damage. Oniell or Chad claims it's not their fault. They are not interested on how or when the car gets repaired. The DMV should shut them down.

Crooks and liars are the best description. The shipment was never on schedule and they were impossible to contact. Do not do business with Stateway Auto. Run away!

Stateway has yet to perform the transport of my truck within 7 days as discussed. Driver has not been assigned as discussed.

Order process was easily done and deposit taken on approx 8 July 2011, $165 of $895 was paid for order #40548.

They stated there were no hidden fees, however, Stateway said the the driver wants an additional $25 to write up a vehicle condition report.

No contact or status to date on when this will happen. There appears to be a failure to perform this contract.

Bait and switch. I received firm price quote online. When Stateway called to book (the next day), they told price which is more than 30% higher! No, there were no changes made to order quote was based on. One would expect a price to change if quote details changed. Again, the quote did not change in any way. Because of this business tactic use, I would not recommend anyone use Stateway Auto Transport. Time wasted. Negative perception of the transport industry (first impression is lasting impression). Transport delayed. I used another transporter.

Stateway provided a fast response for quote to transport my car from Virginia to California. The price was okay and the advertisement associated with their business prompted me to select Stateway. However, I was unable to get a response from anyone either by email or phone. David ** was my contact and I've never heard from him. I have since signed to use Magic Carpet and their response has been just the opposite, completely professional. Do not consider Stateway!

I contracted to have my car transported from California to Minnesota. The car was to be picked up on April 20, 2011. I paid the deposit and agreed to the contract terms. It is now May 8 and the car is still in California. One driver called on April 29 and said that he would not get the car because it was too far out of his way. The car was rescheduled for pick up on May 5. This driver called and rescheduled for May 6 and then on May 6, called and made many excuses on why he could not or would not pick up the car. I have called Stateway multiple times, sent emails and called the representative on her cell phone. I have left messages but have not received any return calls.

We have been without our car for over 2 weeks. I should have cancelled the contract after they missed the scheduled pick up date and made other arrangements.

My issue with Stateway was resolved. Apparently, the refund was issued prior to me writing this negative review and complaint. I feel compelled to remove it since Stateway was not at fault for this. The money was returned after cancellation as stated in the contract.

My daughter decided to move back from California, so I started looking for transport companies for her car. All prices seemed to be around the same but Stateway stated "no hidden cost" and that they had vehicle tracking. I received a call that my daughter was going to be picked up on Saturday afternoon. The driver never showed up until Sunday morning and was very rude to my daughter. I was originally told by Stateway Auto Transport that my daughter is able to put 150 pounds in her trunk. When the driver got there, he told my daughter that she has to pay an extra $100.00 for the stuff in her trunk. I contacted Stateway Auto and I was told to just pay the $750.00 and I could pay in a cashier check. Well, the driver was very adamant that I pay cash only and must be $850.00. Well, I left several messages and emails regarding this and have yet to hear back from anyone.

This past Saturday, I received a call that her car was being delivered at 7PM on Sunday. I had plans for Sunday evening so I had someone on standby to meet the driver. 7PM came on Sunday and still heard nothing. Finally, I called and was told he would be at my house until 11AM on Monday. We rushed home to meet the driver and heard nothing from him or the company. I left several messages and finally at 2:00PM, the driver called and stated he was in CT. So finally at 4:00PM, my daughter's car was delivered and had to pay the $850.00 in cash. I have left several emails and phone message, but have yet to hear back from anyone at Stateway Auto Transport.

My spouse is on active duty military and we received orders to move from NC to CA. I contacted Stateway Auto at the end of October 2010 for a quote to ship my car on December 17, 2010. The quote process was quick and efficient. After a few days, and more decisions that were made in order to make our move successful, we decided to ship my husband's truck instead of my car. I called my quote representative, David, and was unable to reach him by telephone, so I left a message. After a few hours, I called back and spoke to a completely different person who re-ran the quote, assured me that shipping over the holidays was done all the time, and took a $165 deposit on my credit card.

I did not hear back from the company at all regarding this order until my husband tried to reach them on Monday, the week of shipping. Meanwhile, I have now moved to CA, my husband has temporary duty in New England, and my parents have agreed to help us, if needed, from VA. He had not heard from them or a driver regarding our scheduled pick up day or time. I began calling and emailing the company, too. I connected with a live person at Stateway Auto by Wednesday of that week. My representative, David, has now told me that there is a problem with the order and that I have been passed to his supervisor, Susie. I spoke with Susie. She spent about 30 minutes on the phone with me explaining the car shipping process and apologizing for having our order slip through the cracks. She is honest with me and tells me that since it is now one week before Christmas, it is very likely that our car will not ship. And given the New Year holiday right around the corner, it is also likely that it will not ship until early January. She recommended, and I agreed, to let our order stay on their books until December 27, 2010 when she would follow up with me about a path forward.

On December 27, 2010, I found it very difficult to reach Susie and when we did finally connect on the phone, there was no new information. My husband and I were starting to get concerned that our car would not be here in time for him to report to his new job, and we needed a car. I called and emailed David and Susie during the next few days and received no response. Given our situation, we decided to go ahead and buy another car. My parents in VA have agreed to car sit for us while we are in CA. So we have now decided not to ship the truck. We needed our second vehicle and that is why we made arrangements to ship it with Stateway Auto. I spoke to David on December 29, 2010 and asked to get our full deposit refunded and the order canceled.

On January 4, 2011, I had no refund or confirmation that our order had been canceled. I called and spoke to David. David said that he needed a supervisor approval to generate the refund and that had not happened yet. On January 5, 2011, I received an email confirmation from David that our refund amount of $145 will be refunded. I emailed him back and asked him why I was not getting my full refund of $165. I never heard back from him.

I started pursuing complaints through the Better Business Bureau about Stateway Auto. Once I found the management contact name and telephone number at Stateway Auto, I contacted that number to fully disclose our situation and the fact that I will be writing a negative review about my entire experience. I spoke with a well-spoken lady, Suzanne **. She and I spent 30 minutes on the phone discussing my entire situation. She recognized that our situation was handled poorly and assured me that the $145 refund amount was a mistake and I would be getting the full $165 refund. She also informed me of how an order is supposed to be handled from quote to completed shipping. Our order did not get processed as outlined by the company procedures.

I do not know where the problem in this organization lies. I can tell you that trying to reach our representative, David, and the supervisor, Susie, by telephone and email was very difficult and frustrating.

As an active duty military family, we depend on companies and people to help us move frequently with as much success as possible. Any move from an apartment across town to moving across the globe is stressful. We make many decisions leading up to, during, and after the move of our household goods, children, pets, and cars. It is very disappointing to have made a decision early in the moving process and have it not work out at all. I am very frustrated that we ended up buying a second car, asking my parents to add a third vehicle to their lives, having my parents drive and maintain our car, and at the poor customer service received by this company. I will not recommend this company to our military co-workers (active and retired) and will not recommend them to family and friends. I canceled the shipping contract due to no/poor customer service and full refund of initial deposit taken on credit card 8 weeks later.

Stateway Auto has one of the worst services I've ever encountered. From their website, I thought they have the best service in the industry but I was totally wrong. A nice man from their office promised everything to me assuming to get my business, but come pick up date, their delivery truck didn't show up at all. Take note I had called them several times in the past 2 weeks leading up to the promised pick up date, and they kept on promising and smooth talking me that everything was on schedule.

We ended up setting a new pick up date, and yet the truck driver (their delivery guy) didn't make it too on that day so my brother ended up driving the car 70-80 miles to meet the truck driver half way! Take note that their quote and our contract/agreement was to pick up my car from my brother's home. To make up for their lousy service, Stateway Auto promised to send me a token credit check ($ 50) that week. While I was very upset with what happened, I thought the gesture was an act of good will. It turned out that I was wrong about that as well. It's been 8 weeks since they promised to send me the check, but until now, I haven't received it. Worst of all, I've called and emailed their office several times to follow up, but no one has extended me the courtesy of a return call or email. I really think that someone should report them to the authorities. I'm a very easy going person and it takes a great deal of bad customer service to really upset me, so that says a lot about Stateway Auto.

On October 8, I needed my car shipped within 10 days. I received the car November 1 by GWT Transport. A nice man, I paid him in full the $485 I owed. But here the fraud involved Stateway. They charged my credit card a $165 deposit. So I should have paid $320 right? Wrong. The man would not release the car unless I paid him full amount. I did know before this happened; I complained about the delay and Dave said he would take $55 off price. Well, I called several times and no one returns my call. I'm disputing the charges and reporting this fraud. If they would just credit my card, that would be good. We shall see.

I got my car shipped form Fort Drum, NY to Rancho Cucamonga, CA and they promised me that they're going to pick it up in Fort Drum on the 8th of October 2010. Instead it was picked up the 15th of October. I don't have a car to use every time I have to go to my doctor's appointment for 3 weeks. The stereo antenna on the roof of my car has been cut off "I mean literally" like they used a bolt cutter to cut it. And the truck driver said that he is not responsible for that damage.

The driver was rude. The driver called and said he was waiting at pickup location. I hurried to get there and he arrived one hour later. Monty's Auto Delivery Co told me that the truck would arrive at Ft Lewis on Wednesday or Thursday of the following week. The truck was going to my son that is in the Army and asked if he could work it out so he could meet him after 5 pm off base. The driver said he could not wait for no one he would impound the truck until he could get off the Army base to get it.

One week passed and no word from the driver or Stateway. I called several times and no return calls. Finally, a call back from Stateway on Friday and the driver said it would arrive Saturday or Sunday. Monday came and no truck or call. I called Monday and was told it would arrive Tuesday or Wednesday. The driver called my son at the last minute and said he was waiting for him. My son got a ride to meet him; in the mean while, the driver is threating to impound truck.

He is very rude. I researched reviews and Stateway had the best, I don't know how. I asked if there would be any discount for the delays and was told they could not control what happens on the roadways. I understand that, but don't keep telling us that it would be there the next day when they knew it wouldn't. I also went with this company because they had tracking during the transport. Wrong: it was not working. How convenient.

My vehicle was picked up almost three weeks late and calls were rarely returned. No one is ever available by phone. I think Rebecca is the only person who actually works there. I originally spoke with Anthony and after my car was not picked up as requested, he stated that he was working out routing. I tried to plan and allow myself plenty of time to have the car transported, so I gave Stateway an additional week to pick up the vehicle as a courtesy. It was still not picked up. I had to pay to have my car stored, hoping someday it would get transported.

I finally spoke to Rebecca a week later after leaving many messages that were not returned. She told me that I was on an easy route. Within two days, the vehicle was picked up and transported. It was stated in writing that a refund for my deposit would be made within five business days due to the fact that I had to pay additional storage. I was almost two weeks without a vehicle due to their negligence and I placed a deposit to have my vehicle picked at a certain date and it was well beyond that date that job was actually done. As of today, almost ten days later, the refund has still not been credited and no one will return my call.

Dont count on getting your car back or picked up on time. The driver they used, Nate, was amazing. He kept in communication with me, even when his truck blew a tire and was going to be late. He was my only peace through this entire situation. Just to get my car back, I ended up paying $165 more than I planned for Stateway. They are untrustworthy, undependable crooks and liars! I would strongly advise against using this company.

No insurance coverage for $6,000 worth of damage! My original review was removed after I called David at Stateway to ask for a deposit refund for writing a review. He must have hung up on me after he read my review because it was removed. They are a middleman and their insurance is not covering the damage to my car.

The pickup and delivery was very late. I paid additional $100 to expedite the pickup, which still took an additional week. The delivery was very late. The driver and the customer service person provided almost no support nor communication. The transport company was Lakeshore Motor Carriers, and the driver appeared heavily under the influence of methamphetamine. She picked up the vehicle after 10:00 pm, and dropped my car on its side, completely damaging everything from fender to bumper.

I argued with my husband (business partner) over the phone, screaming profanities at each other. The damage to vehicle has been estimated at over $5,700, and no response from Lakeshore Motor Carriers or their insurance provider (Canal Insurance). I observed other damaged vehicles on the trailer, including a completely destroyed Harley Davidson sport bike laying smashed on its side.

I contracted with them on July 13 to move my vehicle from Wisconsin to Alabama. The quoted price was $485.00 with $165.00 deposit down via credit card, the remaining balance ($320.00) due at delivery in cash. The delivery driver would not release the vehicle until I paid him $370.00. Many attempts to contact Stateway has met with negative results.

I am a student and wanted to ship my car back home for Memorial Day weekend. Every company I spoke with gave me the runaround about how it would take up to two weeks to get my car across country. Then a friend of mine recommended that I call Stateway. When I spoke with Rebecca, she assured me that my car would arrive in 6-8 days and helped me set up the shipment to where it would arrive on Friday on the holiday weekend.

At first, I was expecting this not to happen based on some of the horror stories out there and there were even some companies who were harassing me with annoying emails and non-stop phone calls about how Stateway would not deliver. They were simply trying to steal a customer. How pathetic! Anyhow, my car arrived Friday afternoon right on time and in great shape. It was as if it arrived cleaner that it was when they picked it up. I was so happy with the service that I decided to share my experience with the rest of the world. Stateway is the perfect shipper.

They took my deposit of $165 in March 20 for car transportation scheduled on April 28. I tried to contact them more than 15 times with several approaches, email, and phone. I felt that the company is not a reliable one. I gave them a cancellation notice. Finally, I got a confirmation for this cancellation on April 15. They said the refund will be in 3-5 days. However, after 24 days, I still haven't received any money, neither in my credit card, nor by mail. I attempted through their website and e-mail, phone. Nobody picked up the phone, and there was no e-mail reply. Is that a real company, or just a scam?

Wow! I must have received about 20 emails in a 3 day time frame from Joanne at Stateway. I continuously told her to stop sending emails and she wouldn't listen. I am still receiving emails after multiple threats of contacting consumer affairs. I am now going to let everyone know about this company and their spam email methods of trying to gain business. Definitely, I didn't earn mine this way. They won't stop emailing me!

I contacted Stateway Auto Transport (salesperson Anna) to get two vehicles that I purchased on an Auction to my home adress. She said it would take a couple of days since they are brokers they find drivers. I agreed to pay them the amount they quoted me. Three days later I called to ask the status but nobody called me back. I sent them an email saying that I needed to know because the Auction would start to charge me storage fees if I dont pick them up already. So I said on my email to please call me back that next day (day 4) or I would have to cancel my transaction.

Next day I started to make arrangements with another transporter when she called me and said they just pick up one of my vehicles and they were going to pick the other one within 10 minutes. It was odd but I was very happy to hear that so I called the new transport company to cancel the services. I waited, waited and waited for the driver of someone to call me to tell me the time they would be dropping the vehicles off but found out that the vehicles are still sitting at the auction and now I have to start the process all over again.

Since it is Friday I am screewed till monday and know that this will cost me additional storage fees. I cant believe she lied to me and feel even worst because I believed her. Shame on me! The consequence is the delay and extra storage fees. Of course I am now upset and will make sure they get my feedback everywhere I can. Hopefully other customers go somewhere else and get a good service for a good price.
